Remember the twin golden rules of hitchhiking?
# 1: Don't go hitchhiking, because the driver who picks you up could be certifiably crazy.
# 2: Don't pick up hitchhikers, because the traveler you pick up could be raving nutcase.

So what if, on some dark, isolated road, Crazy #1 offered a ride to Nutcase #2?

When two of the most twisted minds in the world of horror fiction face off, the result is SERIAL, a terrifying tale of hitchhiking gone terribly wrong. Like a deeply twisted version of an "After School Special," SERIAL is the single most persuasive public service announcement on the hazards of free car rides. Beyond a thrilling piece of horrifying suspense, SERIAL is also a groundbreaking experiment in literary collaboration. Kilborn wrote the first part. Crouch wrote the second. And they wrote the third together over email in 100-word exchanges, not aware of each other's opening section. All bets were off, and may the best psycho win.

Review

I was originally going to pass on this novella because the cover did not catch my eye. Then I read the blurb and it immediately grabbed me.

The book jumps into action right away; we meet Donaldson, hitchhiker killer and a poor young man who asked him for a ride. The man is raped, killed and suffocated. Gory, yes, but he limits the details so it worked out rather well for reading.

Then we meet Lucy. Instantly I think she’s a victim, a future unsolved case, um, no. Lucy is a seriously twisted bad ass. She is the hitchhiker that kills those who dare to pick her up. I won’t tell you how she kills her latest victim, but it definitely kept me glued to the page.

When these two meet preparing to kill one another, the reader is thrown into a world of disturbed, well written chaos.

This is a novella and when I reached the last page, I was pissed. I wanted more! These two characters seemed to get under my skin in 32 pages and permanently plant themselves into my mind. Read this, even if it’s to remind yourself to never EVER pick up or travel as a hitchhiker.

Living in a world where men were treated like a rare commodity, Ethan Spears did what he could in order to survive.  But when the proverbial rug was pulled out from under him, desperate measures called for desperate actions.  To save his sister, he entered The Lottery, offering himself to one woman for a year.

Karlyn Bowman was a rebel in her family, choosing not to climb the corporate ladder in order to  pursue her love of art. Lonely, ostracized by the family who should have loved her, she pushed forward trying to become a success.  When her friend gives her a lottery ticket to cheer her up, she puts it aside and forgets it.  Imagine her surprise when the knock came to her door and her life—and his—were changed forever.

Ahh to be sent into the future and still have hot, steamy and completely erotic studs at your disposal! Now THAT’S what I’m talking about!! Ms. O’Hurley captivated my attention in the very first few pages of her erotic romance The Lottery. Starting out the book in just the right fashion, drooling over Ethan Spears (RAWR), was a helluva attention getter. A hundred or so years into the future you are sucked into the plot. The author does such a great job at striking the attention of the reader with every single emotion, every thought and you can’t help but fall in love with Karlyn and Ethan.

Karlyn’s a struggling artist trying to prove herself in a world dominated by very successful females, her best friend Sam sees how lonely Karlyn is and buys her a gift - a very delectable man named Ethan.

Ethan, as a “used and abused” male in the new world where women outnumber the men by 30-1, is a high commodity. With his sexy emerald eyes, very lick able body and the sense of there is more to him than meets the eye, he will definitely have you “begging” for more with every single turn of the page. Being somewhat ostracized from his family, or better yet from what family he has left, he has no other choice but to enter into these “contracts” to make sure his sister is taken care of.

I don’t want to give away the entire plot of the story. There were a few errors I found while reading such as  grammatical errors and a few words missing that would have made the sentences flow better. Other than that, Ms. O’Hurley plunged right in and didn’t let up while navigating the reader through The Lottery. The story seemed to have moved at a quick pace but at a rate that was still able to follow and understand what was going on. The Lottery is a definite must read. You will not be disappointed as you can literally feel each character.

Side note…you will need a box of tissues at the ready with a few of the scenes.

The fairies are going extinct. The trolls are trying to take the land for their own nefarious purposes and King Carrick, ruler of the fairy kingdom, has found a human mate. Now he just has to convince her to stay amidst the chaos.

Brook finds herself in love with a fairy, as if that isn't strange enough, she's kidnapped by the trolls and asked to be queen of this fantasy kingdom. Her heart screams approval but a man named Valen and some deadly trolls stand between them.
Review
The plot is definitely original, an entire kingdom of fairies that only some of us can see. They only decided to join us because of a population problem and the King finds a woman that may just be his mate.

Ms. Keraleigh paints a vibrant fantasy world with her words. The characters are a wonderful treat. They unravel beautifully as the book progresses. Of course, I’ve quickly found my favorite fairy, I have a feeling everyone who reads this book will choose at least one hunky male for their fantasies. I could not decide on just one, it was a tie between the sweet, horny Wick and the mysterious Whisper.

The dialogue was a bit choppy and Brook seemed to have serious issues choosing just one man. I can honestly say I understand her dilemma. Hot King, playful ‘licker’ or sexy wingless, What’s a girl to do?

This is positively a recommended read. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
