Betrayal’s Shadow By, K.H. LeMoyne Genre: Paranormal Romance, Action, Urban Fantasy TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf Rating: 5 stars- Highly Recommended Read Heat: 3- Blush Worthy Would you risk everything to save another even if you knew perhaps you should walk away. Each night Mia’s dreams summon her to a jail cell where tortured soul Turen lives. Though to help each other would mean breaking a oath cemented in time, it could possible be what saves them both. I like Urban Fantasies but only if they are written very well. I want no confusion, there has to be depth and detail. Which this author more than delivers, everything was three dimensional in its vivid delivery. I adore the characters, Mia is vivacious and bold. It might be cliché but it fits that there is just something other worldly about Turen. Together they are simply dynamic with dialogue that is quote worthy. I truly enjoyed the new spin on “We must not be together” that we see in their relationship. I also enjoyed that it didn’t take long for Turen to go forget that. While this is very clearly a romance, there is some theology concepts thrown into the story line that for me personally really added another dimension to this book. It turned a simple story into a full bodied book.
I can’t recommend Betrayal's Shadow enough, it has something for everyone. GIVEAWAY: Ms. Lemoyne is giving away an Ecopy of her book Betrayal's Shadow! The TBR Pile is giving away a book from our Prize List. To ENTER: Comment below on why you want to read Betrayal's Shadow!
Sweetest Salvation by Kacey Hammell Genre: erotic romance; BDSM-lite; contemporary romance Length: novella (90 pgs.) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 3 stars - A Good Read. Heat: 5 - Orgasmic. When Andrea "Andy" Sheaver loses first her son and then her husband, she spirals into a self-destructive depression for a year. When she seeks out the sex club owned by her husband's best friend for sex and pain, Hunter steps in to try to keep her from making terrible decisions she will regret in the future. Andy has avoided Hunter since her husband Patrick's death, feeling that he was trying to make decisions for her and boss her around, but the subtext of their ten-year friendship finally comes out of the woodwork in the form of an ultimatum - Andy can visit the club only with Hunter himself.
Although there is one sex scene that walks into D/s sex, mostly Andy's kink is voyeurism. The sex between Andy and Hunter, though, is more sensual than kinky, and this novella is more about two people healing from the loss of family and finding a second chance at love than anything else. Although I appreciated both the past that Andy and Hunter were drawing from and the time they spent together before deciding they were "in love", I never fully connected with them as people. However, the sex was well written and the story was still enjoyable.
Prometheus Unstitched by Lila Shaw Genre: Contemporary, Superhero, Erotica Length: Novella Rating: 5 stars – A Must Read Heat: 5 – Orgasmic What’s a girl who makes superhero costumes going to do when a hero makes her anger rise, lust overwhelm and can change her silver streaks? He also faints at the sight of blood and someone is trying to kill her. You have to read this book. Simple. It is freaking fabulous! So humorous and hot, what a wonderful read. I’ve never read any story with this plot, or anything similar. Superheroes (the B rated kind), humor, action, hot and well developed characters. Did I mentions the sex? Setting your Nook/Kindle/Computer on fire. So hot. Lila Shaw delivers a flawless story with Prometheus Unstitched.
The First Time by Jenika Snow Genre: Fantasy, Erotica Length: Short TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – Recommended Read Heat: 5 – Orgasmic Veronica is about to be auctioned off to a husband. Will it be a fairy tale or a nightmare? There was good world building. I liked the characters, Veronica was really great. Everything was a bit rushed but it was still an entertaining read with lots of heat. The sex was perfectly written, wicked and sensual. I would have loved a longer story to get more depth to the characters. The First Time is a quick read that holds a lot of heat.
Alike As Two Bees by, Elin Gregory Page Count: 82 pages Genre: Historical Romance, Gay Romance TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf Rating: 5 stars - A Must Read. Heat: 3 handcuffs - Blush Worthy. Philon is not a 'wet behind the ear' youth despite his innocence, he knows what Hilarion is about when he comes courting. But despite knowing, the sweet way of Hilarion and his scarred, clumsy beauty seduces Philon in a way that no demi God could and so he let’s himself be courted. I have an Italian friend who makes the best spaghetti sauce ever, and all that’s in it is olive oil, fresh tomatoes, onions, pepper, and herbs. Sometimes from the simplest ingredients comes the best meals ever. Needless to say this story is simple as the plot nor the characters are that original but I found that all the ingredients complimented each other so well that it made a very flavorful story despite the unoriginal template.
This has an almost Dirty Dancing happy for now feel to it. You don’t see how the relationship could possibly work despite how badly we want it to work, not because the main characters are gay but because there are certain expectations for males of that time even when they are allowed to dally with other men. However the book doesn’t end feeling like a happy for now but instead we are given hope, a very simple but nice touch.
There are many characters and each is a bit stereotypical but it truly felt that the author took them deeper and made them more. We have the usual characters of the struggling poor young boy, the rich but mature youth, the bratty spoiled youth, and the father figure boss. However the detail put into them such as the missing tooth and scar on Hilarion, how Philon is calloused and not what you would consider the pretty boy youth, these things took the characters to a new level. If you couldn’t tell, I loved Alike as Two Bees by Elin Gregory, it left me with a warm gooey feeling. Giveaway: Elin Gregory is giving away an Ecopy to one lucky winner. Warlock’s Pawn by Tara Quan Genre: Fantasy, Erotica, Adventure TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – A Recommended Read. Heat: 4 Handcuffs – An Erotic Ride. This is the second book I’ve read from this author and they’re bother really impressive. Warlock’s Pawn is unique, has a solid plot and I see great things in the future if she keeps writing fabulous stories like this. Alia was a beautiful characters in looks and personality and Duncan is a sexy bad boy with a good heart. They tale is a romantic, heated coupling that I loved. Mira and Garr’s story really took away from the main characters. I would have liked to have had less of them in the book and expand more on Alia and Duncan. The story is fantastic though with some magic, wings and really nice world building. This was a quick read and very entertaining. I really enjoyed the romance and the adventure. Warlock’s Pawn is a story of love among war and some magic to keep the plot unique.
Waiting For Darkness by Fionn Jameson Genre: Vampire, Shifter, Witch, Paranormal, Erotica Length: Novella TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 3 stars – A Good Read. Heat: 4 Handcuffs – An Erotic Ride. Tanith is a dominate female vampire and she just meet her match, a shifter king who’s totally attracted to her, a sexy Irish witch that wants her and a dangerous new hunter roaming her city. So many good and bad issues with this book. I’m going to try to blend them together so you can get a sense of both because although it had some problems it was still a really well-written book. There’s a unique quote before each chapter. As interesting as they are it really threw me out of the story. I wanted to continue reading but was stopped by quotes and after the third or fourth one, I just skipped them. Too interruptive. Some events/movements were off. Such as Jamison, the witch, being on the couch but then suddenly he’s grabbing her arm. Did he float there? Stretch his arm muscles so he could reach that many feet across? That happened with a few scenes. Disjointed just fits the book perfectly.
I really liked Tanith at the beginning. Bad ass vampire, doesn’t take shit, what’s not to like? However, her personality kept doing a flip. At the beginning she was a badass but a chapter or two later she tells us both shifters and witches are stronger. Then she gets overpowered by the shifter king and later by Jamison, so what happened to being a badass? Tanith also is dominated by Jamison so quickly, like she’s the submissive. A total personality change. This sex was smoking hot but the characters were disjointed. Almost as if the author wrote a chapter, waited a few weeks then wrote the next chapter just from memory of the first chapter. Despite the issues with this story, the author is very talented. There was NO head hopping, the pace was perfect and the romance wonderful. This book is a solid three stars, I’d even bump it up to a three and a half if I could. She is a good writer. This book is just, well, disjointed. (I know I used that word about three times but it just fits. )
I’ve read a book from her pervious and enjoyed it so keep a look out for more from this author.
Succubus Steam by Lila Shaw Genre: Steampunk, Erotica, Paranormal Length: Short TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – A Recommended Read. Heat: 4 handcuffs – An Erotic Ride. This was an interesting short story about a woman desiring a man but finding too many big flaws, such as sucking the power from her, so she creates her own version on him. Add in some Succubus and some steampunk, you have a really entertaining read. The characters are well-written but a longer story, I think, would have developed them more. Still, they are very interesting and the author does a wonderful job mixing genre’s without skipping a beat. I loved the steampunk elements and the paranormal succubus bits. It was really was creative. The sex, well, let’s go with freaking hot! Succubus Steam by Lila Shaw is a steampunked paranormal gem!
The Tech Guy by Lia Fairchild Genre - Romance Length - Novel TBR Reviewer - Daniella Rating: 3 stars - A Good Read. Emma has worked very hard for the last few years to get where she is now career-wise, not letting anything or anyone get in the way. That is until Guy, the hot tech guy, shows up. With them having to work closely on the digital launch of the magazine, will Guy find out the secret that Emma has guarded so closely? This was an ok read for me. It had some interesting characters in it, although I think the secondary characters were more interesting than the leading lady. Some of the dialogue was witty and flirty, but parts of the narrative focused on not-so interesting details. The story in general got better towards the second half where the real story started.
I might have enjoyed it more I think if I hadn´t felt mislead by the blurb. I was expecting a different story. This is maybe not so much a romance (I never got the sparking chemistry between Emma and Guy) and big secrets being exposed (although Emma´s "secret" was an interesting story twist). This felt more like Emma coming to the realization that she doesn´t have to live a life closed off from people around her, focused on only the organized world that is work, but that she can actually live life and let people in. That building relationships with people around you, and letting them be a part of your life, can bring much happiness. Also that many times one feels the need to build a persona, when people really like who you are beneath the façade. That is probably what I will take away from this read.
Resurrection Child Author: Lee Pletzers Genre: horror Length: novel TBR Reviewer: Mark Rating: 2 stars - This had potential but we didn't like it. Attempting to bring H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Myths into the modern age, Resurrection Child follows the story of Damon Hutter; a Neo-Nazi thug who is given the task of tracking down the woman who will bring forth the seed of Cthulhu, thus heralding in a New Age, which will see the return of the mythical Old Ones of legend. Before long, Damon realizes he is the only one who can protect Caroline from the evil of the Cthulhu cult when they turn against him. With Caroline’s life hanging in the balance, it quickly becomes a race against time between two warring Cults and the Police to determine who reaches her first and whoever wins holds the fate of our world in their hands... This was an okay novel that I had kind of high hopes for but which ultimately didn’t deliver. The amount of books and novella that have been based around Lovecraft’s most famous creations by now must number in the hundreds if not thousands and this was not amongst the better of them. I just felt as though the characters lacked some depth, the story just didn’t ring particularly true and that Cthulhu here could have been replaced with any other generic demon/ monster and the plot would not have overly suffered one whit. To me, it just didn’t feel like a Cthulhu story and was more akin to something like Rosemary’s Baby or Dean Koontz’s Servants Of Twilight at times. It felt like a bold effort to try and bring this myth into today’s modern setting but for me, it just didn’t try quite hard enough. I appreciate that maybe I might have gone in to this expecting a bit too much but I just felt I wanted something more intense, more gritty than what I got here, which instead felt like just another generic horror thriller with nothing, outside of the presence of Cthulhu, that made it stand out. I want memorable characters and an involving plot not something that all rests upon a single thread and characters who I will forget within another one or two books. This is not the only Cthulhu book that has been released lately and I just felt if it wanted to compete it just needed to deliver something more...
