Entasy by Brynn Myers
Novel
TBR reviewer: B.H.
The beginning's a little shaky. The character introductions are awkward and it didn’t hook me, in fact it was confusing. There’s no explanation as to who Vincent is. Boyfriend, friend, brother? Then one second our main character Kylah is in a restaurant and the next down the alley which turns into some dark field. It’s a dream/astral projection as I found out later which is normally in italics to prevent this kind of confusion.

What really made me angry about this book was the Point of View. Each character has a
Point of view from the first person. That is so damn confusing and I’ve only read a few books like this but this form ALWAYS brings the story down. I had to read a few pages into the second chapter several times before I figured out this was another person in first person then the first chapter. Three main characters each in first person, freaking confusing. Then there are characters introduced too frequently in a small amount of time, it was hard keeping everyone straight. There’s the fade, no I don’t know what that is, the author didn’t explain it. There’s also changelings, unexplained. Is that the Irish legend or some new species? And Slaugh, which isn’t explained until about 30 pages in, but it’s a great and interesting explanation. There’s also very little in surrounding details which left each scene lacking. These issues happen throughout the novel. Those were the bad qualities and the reason I lowered the rating.

I also dislike the fact that there’s a glossary (Find explanation here for above words). No book should have a glossary; the information should be carefully weaved into the story. As for a recommendation, I would not. This has a very ‘new to writing’ feel to it. The plot has a lot of potential.
