The idea was interesting and the back story for Hephaestus gave the author plenty of room to play. Still there were things that held me back from giving it a five star rating. There was a lot of background that felt heavy to me because it was sort of unnecessary and bogged down the story. At times I felt like I was bouncing from one scene to the next with no time to recover. I'll be honest and say it was a struggle for me to read in certain parts. Ie: One minute I was on Mt Olympus watching Hephaestus cut ties with his philandering wife and the next we were in a bar making bets and then on earth with the heroine, her flaky sister and her best friend and co-worker. The fast changes accompanied by the information overload made my head spin.
Still, Touch of the Gods was filled with humor, my favorite, had characters that weren't just likeable they were relatable and had sex so hot it'll make your panties steam. No, I'm not kidding this was hot with a capital H. And yes, despite the God/Goddess theme there's a human feeling to this book. Luc's take on Olympus is the most humanized I seen. They punch time cards for god's sake :winks: Get it?
I loved the hero Vanessa! She was your every day women with a regular job, out there sister, self doubts and dry spells. She made me laugh, aww, and root for her when happiness was in her grasp. As for the hero. You'd have to be heartless not to feel for Hephaestus, born with
an imperfect body on Olympus he's had a hell of a life. I mean come on; if you were dropped out of the sky at birth, you'd be grumpy too. Unlike ole Hep though, losing your temper wouldn't cause volcanoes to erupt. You can see how this would be a problem eh? :laughs: Despite it all Hep has a real sense of humor that really lent to the books style and helped lighten some of the heavier emotions dealt with.
If you like the Greek Gods , meaningful smex, and humor this will be the perfect choice for you.
