Gilly McCoy has had the worst luck and it really doesn’t seem to be getting better even when she is “rescued”. Is it considered saving if it’s done by a pirate? Wouldn’t that just be jumping from one frying pan to another? Thayer Drake isn’t too sure about his luck after freeing the fool woman not once but twice! There is just something about her though that begs to be rescued.
I liked this book. I loved her pirate series and I can see that being true for this series as well but the previous book was better. There were amazing three-dimensional characters that are not only charming and interesting but imperfect as well. There was more of a vulnerability to these characters than the ones prior and that’s difference that I really enjoyed.
Again, we have over three hundred pages! Can’t even begin to explain the joys of having something to read that substantial. The plot is extensive as well with twists and adventures. I still found myself getting lost into the book and being pulled into another world, such was the details.
Beware though because there is not the steaminess as before and you will find yourself looking for it, at least I did. Because of this, I’ll admit to finding the book dragged a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the slow build up to the relationship but personally it angst for longer than I could really get into. I was so invested in the characters that there were times I found myself screaming at Drake to just rip Gilly’s clothes already! Yet when we do get to the love scenes, they are hot!
I just found the balance wasn’t quite the way it was in the book before. However I’m still looking forward to reading the next book in the series because there is just no way that I couldn’t not read it, there fun, enjoyable, and remarkably well written.
