Review

Sometimes fate steps in and runs roughshod over your life. All you can do is hang on and make the best of it. When Sasha Edwards agreed to meet with her friends she never imagined her normal life would be turned upside down. That night her life is severely altered but with strength she survives and if she can find more strength to face the oncoming challenges than the worst night may turn into the best.
 
As a reviewer, I write my reviews for the readers out there wanting to know if they should waste time and money on a book but sometimes I see such potential that I can’t help but write a review for an author also. When I pick a book, I always look at the ratings, I like a challenge of mixed ratings because it’s up to me to explain why. When I first started reading Destiny's Path, I was absolutely dumb founded that it was getting mixed ratings because I hardly ever see detailed writing like this outside of mainstream authors. Trust me when I say that I’ve read every shifter plot out there since I started reading them at the age of twelve, so while shifter plots are hard to make original the author kicked ass on twisting and tweaking and in the end owned it. Not only that, but the passion and the emotion of the story really comes through.
 
So why does this book get mixed ratings and why is it only a four? The problem is the characters. Don’t get me wrong their good and the author made a solid connection with them but she also took some calculated risk where she totally forgot age of the readers she is pitching to.

When we first meet Sasha, I’m loving her, she’s a normal girl over the age of twenty-five with some wrinkles and love handles but she’s embracing it and as a reader you’re feeling that empowerment. Then Sasha is changed into a wolf and because of that her metabolism kicks up. She loses the wrinkles and love handles. While it didn’t completely diminish her appeal because she is still a strong and relatable female, it was still a nick that I couldn’t quite get over. It actually dimmed some of my appeal for the book. Then you have Flynn who is your normal Beta leading wolf/man. I love the strong, supporting, and adoring male role. Yes I really did love Flynn. Though I truly believe that it had more to do with the author doing a kick ass job of really bringing that character connection through. I just felt that there could have been more depth, a twist or an Achilles heel to really make him stand out against all those other leading men you see in other books. The third thing is that there is a part in the book that latterly screamed Twilight to me. Were we find that a child that is to be born will be True Mate to Gab this two hundred and something yearr old wolf and the dad couldn’t think of a better person/wolf he’d want for his daughter. That just icked me out a bit because as a mother I’d not be okay with that. I’d be sending that grown wolf off and away so that my daughter could grow up without pressure or you know going through maturity before she was maybe ready. 
 
So though I can totally see why this book got mixed ratings, I still have to say Destiny's Path is one of the best shifter books I’ve read in a long time. I’m also crossing my fingers that maybe the author will see this and take into account what I’m saying when writing her next book.

Excerpt

"As you can see, this is not a hospital," Roan began. "When we saw how bad your injuries were, we had you flown here."

 "Flown? Why in the world didn't you take me to a hospital? And where is here?" she snapped. Her patience was running thin.

Roan held up a hand, silencing her. "Please. You wanted an explanation, and now I'm giving it to you. If you have questions, please wait until after I've finished. I'll be happy to answer
them all then." He waited for her reply.

"Okay, I guess I deserved that. But I don't like not knowing. It makes me impatient."

"Understandable under the circumstances." He smiled, then continued. "Here is my home in Montana. When you were stabilized enough, I had a helicopter pick you up and bring you to
my private jet, where you were worked on until better facilities could be made available. Flynn is a doctor with his own practice, so I knew you would be in good hands."

Sasha looked at Flynn, giving him a smile of thanks. He smiled back, accepting her thank-you. He still looked on edge, though. Maybe it was from lack of sleep from caring for her, she decided. I know I get cranky when I don't get at least eight full hours.

Roan's voice snapped her back to attention.

"Now, as for the attack, that wasn't a dog. He was a Lupus. My and Flynn's grandfather, as a matter of fact."

"Huh?" She frowned with confusion.

"A Lupus. What humans refer to as a werewolf."

That caused her to pause a moment as she glanced at Roan, then looked over at Gabriel and Flynn, coming back to Roan. None of the men appeared to be too shocked by Roan's statement. In fact, all three looked at her rather expectantly.

"Oookay. I think it's time I left now." She started to slowly rise from the bed.

"Remain where you are," Roan ordered in a steely tone.

Sasha narrowed her eyes. "Excuse me?"

"You wanted to know, and now I'm telling you."

"Give me a break, will ya? I wanted to know what was going on. Not some story about werewolves." These guys must really think she was stupid, or naive.

"It's no story, I assure you. The Lupus are quite real. Your attack by our grandfather was
real."

 "The dog was a werewolf—excuse me, Lupus—named James, who just happened to be your
  grandfather?"

"I can see where you would have doubts."

Sasha snorted, wondering how such gorgeous men could be complete crackpots. It was a shame really. But it just went to prove that even looks hid a loose mind.
