Review
This is the second book of the “Of War” series and it picks up where “The Heart of War” left off. Ares and Alena have moved to Olympus and are eagerly awaiting their first child. The God of Gods, Zeus, is not happy with Alena being on Olympus and being with Ares. So with the help of Apollo he schemes and plans to break the lovers apart and get rid of Alena and her child. Ares and Alena´s life on Olympus is further complicated when it turns out that their son Raven, is a powerful, extremely intelligent and power hungry child. Now Ares has to do
what he can to keep his family together and watch as Alena is struggling with he rdeveloping powers, visions and a monster of a son.
This fel tlike a pretty typical second book in a series, with a lot of building events and plots, but no resolutions. I am very sure though that the author will tie everything up nicely and leave no loose ends in the next book in the series. This book was a very different read compared to the previous one. The people are much the same and the Gods of Olympus keep scheming against each other, however there was almost none of the physical violence that we saw so much of in the first book. Instead it is all about mind games and messing with mostly Alena´s and Raven´s heads. There was also a lot less sex in this book and although we were given a tender and intimate moment with Ares and Alena, there was very little of the playfulness and fun moments with the two.
The characters are still very well made, with a lot of depth and personality, and Raven is outright scary. I have no idea if I want him to be able to walk down a different path and redeem himself or if he is just meant to be as violent and scheming as his grandfather Zeus. This story was less action-filled than the last one, which actually was pretty good as it focused more on the main story and less on other events on the side.
If one enjoyed “The Heart of War”, then one should definitely continue on with this second installment. The reader just has to be prepared to be left hanging until the third part comes out.
