Most of us have that someone that slipped through our fingers and we occasionally think about them but for Colin Andrews it's more than occasionally and it’s not too fondly. If Quinn Cavanaugh thought absence made the heart grow fonder than he has another thing coming, even saving his beloved’s life is not going to heat that iceberg. 
  
I say without a doubt that this author has potential and will eventually have a fan base in the m/m romance world but there is work that needs to be done. The pace is too fast for the angst that is portrayed at the beginning and I was pulled into too many different directions as far as plots that I was left confused. It might possibly be the copy that I received but the editing needs to be done over and it really needs to be done over if I notice it as I’m not one to mention such things.  
  
Now that I’ve said what I didn’t like let me again mention what I do like in a little more detail. So why do I think that the author shall eventually have a fan base? Because the characters are that good. I really enjoyed the characters especially Colin and Quinn. The dialogue between the two main characters is well done and entertaining. I particularly liked when Colin would be all uppity and angst basically acting like an ass but in such a way that readers will find they can relate to.  The secondary character’s were well written as well and I like the depth that was added to Ryan’s characters.
 
All together I felt that reading this book was a bit like going to the movies were there are Big Name stars involved and yet you walk away feeling that the movie was just okay. This script just wasn’t entirely strong enough to carry the actors.

Samantha is broken - an attack by a crazy ex has left her scarred, emotionally as well as physically. It has also caused her to run from her job in her brother's restaurant in Chicago to one in an executive kitchen in New York. A year after her attack, she finds a determined man wanting to get past all her barriers and teach her to trust and love again.
 
Tatum Throne has created a very interesting character in Sam. She is somehow fragile, yet strong, determined, yet flighty, all wrapped up in one woman. Austin is a little harder to get a grip on because the novella follows Sam's thought processes, but he does come across as being strong and determined when he wants something. Together they leave the impression that they can make anything happen. The relationship happened extremely fast - I think they may have been better served by talking a little more and having sex a little less,
but it made for a good read. I also liked all the secondary characters - Sam's co-workers and brother Ryan, especially. (And I would love to know more about Colin and Quinn!) This is a fast, enjoyable story.
