Review: Virgin's Behaving Badly Anthology 05/14/2012
Title: Virgins behaving badly Author: (9 Author Anthology); Doris O´Connor, Angelina Rain, Melissa Hosack, Carolyn Rosewood, Giselle Renarde, Alyssa Fox, Lorraine Nelson, Raven McAllan, Stacey Espino Page count: 250 pages Genre: Erotic Romance This was a fun anthology about virgins behaving, well... not like virgins. The stories are well written and well edited. There are a range of different stories from fantasy to contemporary to historical; from love at first sight to steamy menages to virgins so eager they need to be tied down. I enjoyed the anthology as a whole, some stories more than others. It was also nice to see stories with both female and male virgins. My only big problem was that although the stories were all well written and the sex was hot, very few were memorable and stood out from the rest. Especially the three BDSM stories. They felt very similar and even though being inexperienced, doesn´t mean timid or shy about what you want, I still got the feeling of 'wow, would a virgin really do that?' Some of the stories that did stand out and I liked a lot were Hawk´s woman, a western romance, Sean´s education, a best friends threesome and The Siren call. They all had that little extra, with memorable characters and a backstory to go with the sex. Purchase HereReview: Seduction Creek by Avery Flynn 05/02/2012
Romantic suspense - novella TBR Reviewer: Christine ReviewI can describe this book in one word: Perfection. Seriously, Seduction Creek should be on the New York Times Bestseller List. Beth was in a car accident that killed her parents. She had a tough life including not being able to have children. Hank is her best friends brother and as sexy as they come. Together they have to unravel the mystery of who is trying to run her off her land and try to tame these wild feeling between them. Romance, adventure, humor, this book has it all. The pace is perfect. Action, then some sexual tension and a few jokes to make you grin. I really loved these characters. Beth, hank and the rest of the cast were absolutely spot on to create a fantastic book. I instantly liked Beth and fell in love with Hank. The story unfolds and I was sucked into the plot. Pages turned, chapters flew by and suddenly the end arrived. Their budding relationship was hot but so freaking romantic! The ending was full of action and utterly sweet. If you love romance with a side of action, Seduction Creek is a must read! Let me tell you this series made me fall in love with Cowboys all over again. Each can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading them in order to get the full effect of how talented Ms. Nelson is. It starts with Leah and finding out the man she thought she loved it a cold blooded murderer. The beginning certainly pulls the reader in. There were a few editing issues that popped up but nothing to take away from this entertaining story! What did take away was the cardboard dialogue between Luke (Leah’s brother) and her when she’s telling her story. She’s talking about rape, abuse, murder and she talks about it so impassive, not a tear and even giggles at one point when she goes for a cookie at the same time as Zakia (Sister in law). It does get more substantial and soon the story takes off. Car chases, secret kisses and that’s just the beginning. She did a great job writing the action although some parts, like the end of the action scenes, felt very rushed. Some scenes just didn’t add up such as the car explodes and Michael goes out to get help. She doesn't hunker down and prepare or hid she eats dinner. What?! After an explosion? Like I said some scenes just didn't add up. Now for the four star rating. Despite those issues it was still a very entertaining read. By the end I really loved the characters and was cheering for their happy ending. A Cowgirl's Pride is about the act of finding and capturing true love. Cowgirl's Pride is a strong four star read that I definitely recommend. ExcerptHe was so hot for her! If he didn’t get these damned jeans off soon, his erection just might pop the zipper. That’s how hard he was for her—so stiff the skin stretched tight over his cock and it ached. She suddenly pulled free and backed away from him. He almost swore out loud in frustration, thinking she’d changed her mind, but she’d only gone to close the vertical blinds at the windows. “Just in case,” she said, smiling a come-hither smile as she turned back to him. He felt guilty for his unjust thoughts, but closed the distance between them in a heartbeat, relieved to have her back in his arms. “I’ve missed you, Cal,” she said as she ran her fingers through his thick, wavy hair. “No more than I’ve missed you. I was beginning to think you’d never come home.” “Oh, I wanted to, so much, but it just wasn’t possible.” “You’re here now,” he said, grabbing the hem of her sweater and pulling it over her head to expose beautifully shaped breasts enclosed in see-through peach lace. “And I’m so glad you’re back.” He bent to suckle her nipples through the lacy cups, her mindless purr of delight going straight to his groin. If he got any harder, he’d explode. Still, he took his time, banking his desire as best he could to give her pleasure. Slipping his hands inside the waistband, he worked her blue jeans and sexy peach colored thong down over her hips, promptly falling to his knees at the sight of her curls. He leaned forward, reaching out to touch her satiny skin, smell her spicy vanilla scent and taste the creamy essence that was Leah. He wanted—needed—all of it—all of her. When Zara Flynn's father dies in an accident at his construction site in Indonesia, she finds herself the 24-year-old CEO of Flynn Enterprises as well as the personal owner of the burned-out hulk that is El Mirador. She soon finds herself embroiled in strange events revolving around the ruined property, a famous Spanish rocker, a Canadian engineer working for her company, and the local officials involved in Planning and Development for Costa del Sol. Along the way she just might find out why her father left her such a strange legacy and get clarity about his death. I found the cast of characters assembled in this story to be fascinating. "Mickey Mountain" and his strange predilections, the Dark Angel, the older English couple that took Zara under there wings when they discovered she was staying alone at Club Marbella, and of course, David all added to the interesting aspects of the book. There were a couple of places that dragged, but most of the time I enjoyed the storyline and was pleasantly surprised with the ending. Although I am not a huge fan of "insta-love", I liked Zara and David together, and especially with Zara's friends and family all wanting them together, felt like they made a realistic couple. I also liked the way the prologue and epilogue, both taking place in the '70s, gave both a glimpse at Zara's father and explained the last of the mysteries surrounding the old resort. Paranormal, Suspense, Romance - novel TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf ReviewDara MacKechnie is the chief mediator for the vampires, a peaceful job for the last eighty years but that’s all about to go down hill. When the body count starts to pile up she knows the peace treaty is in trouble. She knows she has no choice but to work with Anthony Caldwell, the head of the vampire council but they have a past. A past that makes it hard for either of them to trust but they will have to in order to make it out of this situation alive. To say that I’ve read every kind of vampire book out there is an understatement but the author did a remarkable job in making this book refreshing. Everything about the plot stood out. The world that we are drawn into has an old worldly feel to it but also carries a taste of modern and edgy. I hesitate to compare it to anything but if my arm was twisted I’d lean toward comparing it to Underworld. The lead character Dara even has that “I’ll kick your butt and take names later” type attitude. She never backs down from a challenge which I found pleasantly different to the more vulnerable heroines I’ve been reading lately. Anthony is the perfect compliment to Dara and even as they struggled against each other it was easy to see how well suited they were to each other. That was another thing that I truly enjoyed, the struggle between the two really built up the tension and passion leading to a more satisfactory read than an instant love. Blood Rage is a sizzling hot must read for vampire/paranormal fans out there. I promise you won’t regret it. ExcerptAnthony held up his hands, watching her as she paused in front of him, clearly debating her course of action. It was a bit of a role reversal, as he was well-used to having her naked while he remained clothed. But he was inclined to give her her head and see where she led. “Now what?” “Sit.” In that effort, she rested her hands, silky smooth and warm, on his chest to urge him down. Yes, he liked this more decisive, assertive woman. He cherished the memory of her innocence and enthusiasm, but he found it quite alluring, a woman who knew what she wanted. And clearly she wanted something beyond the obvious. He settled back on the couch, arms spread along the back. If he didn’t, he’d reach for her and end this now. Control, Anthony, control. His breath caught in his throat when she dropped to her knees between his legs and took him in her hands, stroked along his length. His world narrowed to just the two of them, everything not her fading rapidly as he thought only of the soft hands caressing him, something he’d long feared might never happen again. Anthony groaned. “You’re going to kill me, woman.” A tiny, teasing smile crossed her face. “La petite mort, yes. That’s certainly the idea,” she said, cupping his balls. Warm breath tickled the length of him as she spoke. His hands clenched into fists. He wouldn’t be able to take much of this, or he’d thoroughly disgrace himself by coming too soon. When she took him in her mouth, his eyes crossed. Gods, yes. If Odin himself popped in and offered to take him off to Valhalla, he would turn the god down in a heartbeat, just to stay like this. It’d been so long. Purchase HereBIG CONTEST: Tory Michaels is giving away an ecopy of this book and a $5.00 giftcard to one lucky winner! Comment below to enter. Her parents and older sister continue to spend like there is no tomorrow, while Lily learns to cook, keep a garden, and clean when all the servants are let go due to lack of funds. Her unlikely savior comes in the form of an older man known to most as the "Beast", who blackmails her into marrying him in exchange for saving her family from losing everything. Unknown to Lily, Wayne Brown has spent two years wanting her and uses her family's monetary situation as the excuse to have her. While they both struggle to find a balance in their new marriage, secrets from their pasts and mistakes in their present threaten any chance at happiness they have. A thoroughly enjoyable story, I loved reading about Wayne and Lily's fight to create a family against strange odds, and how they both fought against admitting their growing feelings for one another. Lily also continually struggles with insecurities from growing up a full-figured person in a world of size zeroes, especially because her older sister uses that fact to torment her. Both main characters felt like real people, broken by their pasts but trying to heal within the chance of love. As Lily becomes more secure and Wayne softens, their relationship appears to be the best possible circumstance, but waiting too long to admit his feelings could cause Wayne to lose Lily for good. My only real issue with the whole story was some editing issues where misspellings or wrong words pulled me out of the story. However, I still really enjoyed reading this and will read more by this author. I recommend Blackmailed by the Beast for any one who enjoys the "rescued-damsel-with-hidden-strengths" type story, or for lovers of "reformed-by-love-businessmen"! ExcerptA nice red blush stained her cheeks and the top of her chest. Wayne desired to pull her gown down and suck on her sweet hot nipples. How many times had he fantasised about seeing this voluptuous woman naked? Spread before him on the silk sheets of his four-poster bed? “Please, give me more time?” Her voice quivered, and her body shook. Deep down, he wanted to take her in his arms and protect her from everything threatening to pose harm. He needed to stay strong. “I want your answer now.” “Please.” “Now or never, Lily.” Wayne pulled away and shut off his emotions. The time to think with his head and nothing else. “When I get to the door, I better have your answer. If I leave this room without any answer, the debt collectors will come knocking tomorrow. It’s your decision, Lily.” “Why are you doing this to me?” Wayne caught her face in his palms. He looked deep into her eyes. “Because you’re the one that caught my attention.” Without a second look, he walked the short distance to the door, each step like a ticking clock in his mind. Wayne closed his eyes and prayed she wouldn’t be stupid. She wouldn’t test his resolve. They didn’t call him the Beast for nothing. He’s written with a bit of humor, a slice of sarcasm and a whole lot of sex appeal. Yum, would be the best word to describe him. Anna, is the reaper who got stuck training him and trying to rid him of his dark side. Together, they’re a match made in hell. What a fabulous read. Ms. Colt really blew me away with this one. There were still the occasional rushed scenes, and some editing issues but the story was solid. The dialogue was fantastic. The tension between Anna and Boden was beautiful written. Wicked Temptations is a treat. ExcerptBoden moved away to pull her pants down along with her panties. Anna’s curly hairs were neatly trimmed, and her apex glistened with the proof of her arousal. He wanted to go to his knees and taste her. To attach his mouth to the swollen bud that peaked from between her puffy lips and suckle her until she came screaming his name. The intense emotions rolled through him, shaking him as he resisted. He needed to remain in control. “You’ve got such a pretty little cunt.” The foreplay was skipped as he thrust a finger deep inside her tight hole, and she cried out. Her voice was a strange mix of pleasure and pain that had his tip dripping like a faucet. “Fuck, you’re so wet and tight.” His finger began to thrust, and her hungry walls sucked him in. Gripped him and held him in their taut embrace. “You like what I’m doing to you don’t you, my girl?” “Oh God! Yes.” “I’m far from done.” He added another finger and pumped faster. “I want to hear you scream my name when you come.” Anna’s fingers curled around his shoulders as her walls shivered, and she rocked her hips in time with his rhythm. Her walls shuddered around his fingers before they clamped down. A gush of liquid flowed forth as she threw her head back and screamed his name. The shrill cries were music to his ears. Her weight rested against the wall, and their gazes locked as he pulled his digits free and sucked them into his mouth. Her honeyed nectar exploded on his tongue, and he moaned. She tasted like ripe fruit sprinkled with sugar. “You’re the sweetest thing I think I’ve ever tasted.” “B—” “Shh, you’re not the only one who has things to teach.” She looked dazed as she nodded her head and allowed him to right her clothing. “I think you’re the one who needs to think about what we want from our time together. The ball’s in your court now.” Purchase hereMs. Colt is giving away an ecopy to one lucky winner. Even though Pam doesn´t normally do one night stands, she just can´t fight her attraction to Gabe and decides to get her slut on just for tonight. They have an explosive and hot night together. Although Pam thinks she will never meet Gabe again, he knows differently. Turns out Gabe is the new boss of the company where Pam works and Gabe is a man with a mission. He wants Pam. Even though Pam wants Gabe as much as he wants her, she is more hesitant about balancing both a working relationship and a personal relationship. Can Gabe win her over and show her that they can keep their two relationships separate? This was my first read from Emma Shortt and I will definitely check out her other books. I really enjoy the humoristic way of writing and the way the characters thoughts are quite uncensored. The characters and the dialogue makes it feel like you are out with friends, having a couple of drinks and talking about everything. The story is short, but I still feel like I got to know the characters. They do decide to keep their working relationship and private relationship separate (although the boss´ office after hours is totally a good place to have fun). Their arrangement seems to work for them, at least until Pam´s co-worker and best friend Lucy is trying to use her friendship with Pam to get out of trouble with Gabe. Lucy is the character that I have the most trouble with. She doesn´t feel like a very good friend to Pam and still Pam stands by her. She really does nothing in this story that makes me want to like her even a little. The ending of this book gave hints of a sequel and I hope Lucy can redeem herself. Pleasing The Boss was a fun, enjoyable and hot read. ExcerptHeads bobbed, and I couldn’t help noticing four pairs of eyes, belonging to Jane, Sally, Rick and Sasha zeroing on our new boss’s cock. I could hardly blame them. It was fucking obvious, there for all to see. The memory of the feel of it in my pussy hit me, and I gripped the side of my desk. Jesus, it had felt so amazing! If I closed my eyes, which obviously I couldn’t right now, I could almost feel the sensation of him stroking my walls, pulling my clit downwards with each inward thrust. “I started off in research myself.”The staff all smiled. Who better than a researcher to understand what we did?“I hope you’ll throw the odd project my way,” Gabriel continued. “Just to keep my math up to scratch.” He couldn’t have said anything more perfect and Dave smiled, his curls bouncing on his shoulders, getting his geek on. “We’ve got a really exciting piece of cluster analysis we’re working on.”Gabriel nodded, reached over and scrolled down our iPod.“Sounds good. Will I hear this in my office?” Dave’s smile faded. “The walls are pretty thin, sir.” The office paused, breath held to hear his next words, and I took the opportunity to relax my thigh muscles. “I hope there’s some Stone Roses on there, then,” he said. “But I gotta say, I draw the line at ‘Glee’.”And that was that. The whole office fell for the new boss, nodding and smiling at him and one another. I shifted in my seat as my mind worked through the suddenly-complicated situation my whoreish behavior had landed me in. “I’ll see you soon, Pam,” he said as he turned to leave, a scorching smile shooting in my direction. My body quivered, remembering that smile as he licked his way down my tits. I took a deep breath and nodded. What were the fucking odds? Romance novella TBR Reviewer: Daniella ReviewThis is the second book in the Virgins no more series and we get to meet the people from the first book. The love story in this book; however, focuses on John Smith and Theodora Ridley. John Smith is the best friend of Theodora´s big brother Barnabas and Theodora has loved John since she was a little girl. John has also had his eyes on Theodora for a long time, although he got a little side tracked by the beautiful Sapphira´s introduction to the social scene. When he and Theodora get together during a stolen moment at a ball he knows without a doubt that it is Theodora he wants. They get married, but now John has to show Theodora that he truly loves her and that he didn´t only marry her because he took her virginity. This was another great short story, although it focused a little more on side characters and left less room for John and Theodora. One got a small portion of the insecure feelings that Theodora had regarding why John chose to marry her. Although I am not a person craving angsty reads, the story could have explored Theodora´s doubts and the couple growing together in their marriage a little more. It all went a little too smoothly. Both this book and the previous one feel like chapters from a bigger book, told from each couples point of view. I like the characters, both the main ones and the side characters. I can already see the next chapter/couple lined up and I look forward to reading about them. Almost a Virgin is an enjoyable, quick read that I would recommend! Purchase HereHistorical, Romance - novella TBR reviewer: Daniella ReviewIt is time for Barnabus Ridley, Vicar of the Town, to get married and he has his eyes on Georgina Arnott. Georgina is very happy when Mr Ridley asks for her hand and she is determined to please her husband in their everyday life and in bed. Although knowing pretty much nothing about how to be in the marital bed, Georgina is passionate and curious, to her husband’s great delight. I really liked the story about Georgina and Barnabas and how they learn how to be husband and wife. Neither of them has any real knowledge about what it means to share a life with another person and it is interesting to see them learning as they go. Especially Barnabas has to learn to let go of his strict and stuffy ways and embrace the life, laughter and noise Georgina brings to his house. They don´t really know each other, but in bed they come together with love and passion. This is a short story. I think though that the author manages this format very well (and I think writing a good short story is harder than writing a longer one). She even manages to introduce some side characters. When considering the short story format I didn´t really miss anything. A perfect quick erotic read in a historical setting. Purchase Here |
