Ours (The Bears #2) by Hazel Gower Genre: menage (M/F/M), paranormal romance Length: novella TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 3 Stars - A Good Read. Heat: 4 - An Erotic Ride. Sandy is tired of alpha males - between her firefighter father and brothers, she is overwhelmed and sick of it. Fate, though, has the last laugh when she joins her female friends at a self-defense class only to find herself claimed by not one, but two large, bear shifter males. Jake, a police officer and his cousin Zach, a tattoo artist and business owner, know right away that Sandy is the one and only True Mate for them, but Sandy takes quite a bit of convincing. I had trouble with this story because the romance was really far-fetched. Just the thought that a policeman and self-defense instructor would deliberately break into the home of the woman they wanted doomed it for me, and the way the three fought and made up frequently just didn't work. It felt like nothing was ever working out, just covered over with sex. However, if that aspect was overlooked, the scenes between the three of them were very hot, and I really liked when Sandy told Zach's mom off over the phone.
Sweetest Salvation by Kacey Hammell Genre: erotic romance; BDSM-lite; contemporary romance Length: novella (90 pgs.) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 3 stars - A Good Read. Heat: 5 - Orgasmic. When Andrea "Andy" Sheaver loses first her son and then her husband, she spirals into a self-destructive depression for a year. When she seeks out the sex club owned by her husband's best friend for sex and pain, Hunter steps in to try to keep her from making terrible decisions she will regret in the future. Andy has avoided Hunter since her husband Patrick's death, feeling that he was trying to make decisions for her and boss her around, but the subtext of their ten-year friendship finally comes out of the woodwork in the form of an ultimatum - Andy can visit the club only with Hunter himself.
Although there is one sex scene that walks into D/s sex, mostly Andy's kink is voyeurism. The sex between Andy and Hunter, though, is more sensual than kinky, and this novella is more about two people healing from the loss of family and finding a second chance at love than anything else. Although I appreciated both the past that Andy and Hunter were drawing from and the time they spent together before deciding they were "in love", I never fully connected with them as people. However, the sex was well written and the story was still enjoyable.
The First Time by Jenika Snow Genre: Fantasy, Erotica Length: Short TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – Recommended Read Heat: 5 – Orgasmic Veronica is about to be auctioned off to a husband. Will it be a fairy tale or a nightmare? There was good world building. I liked the characters, Veronica was really great. Everything was a bit rushed but it was still an entertaining read with lots of heat. The sex was perfectly written, wicked and sensual. I would have loved a longer story to get more depth to the characters. The First Time is a quick read that holds a lot of heat.
Succubus Steam by Lila Shaw Genre: Steampunk, Erotica, Paranormal Length: Short TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – A Recommended Read. Heat: 4 handcuffs – An Erotic Ride. This was an interesting short story about a woman desiring a man but finding too many big flaws, such as sucking the power from her, so she creates her own version on him. Add in some Succubus and some steampunk, you have a really entertaining read. The characters are well-written but a longer story, I think, would have developed them more. Still, they are very interesting and the author does a wonderful job mixing genre’s without skipping a beat. I loved the steampunk elements and the paranormal succubus bits. It was really was creative. The sex, well, let’s go with freaking hot! Succubus Steam by Lila Shaw is a steampunked paranormal gem!
Hopeful Hearts by Susan Laine Genre: F/F Contemporary Length: Short TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – Recommended Read. Heat: 5 handcuffs - Orgasmic Oh, Mickey you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind...but in this story Mickey is not a man but a female treasure hunter. Lily is the quiet, shy curator who's nursing a broken heart. Together sparks fly but will it last? This was cute story. The heat was smoking and it was well-written. The characters didn’t have much development but I think that’s because of the length. This author did a great job with the genre and I’m excited to read more from her.
Fairy Unbroken by Anna Keraleigh Genre: Fantasy, erotic Length: Novella TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 5 stars – A Must Read. Heat: 5 handcuffs – Orgasmic. This is the third book in the fairy series. Keyn was abused as a child and learned to close his heart to others, which is easy to do when you’re a fairy. The problem is that he has already found his mate he just doesn’t want to claim her. Meanwhile, there are trolls attacking the fairies in attempt to destroy them. I felt so bad for Keyn. The nightmare and the memories of his abuse was hard to read without tearing up. I really wanted him to find his happy ending. Trillian is having her own issues with a sick brother. Together they’re the world’s worst couple but it made for great entertainment. Trillian was really great. I liked her attitude and then her vulnerability when her brother gets worse. The push and pull between the two is fantastic. The sex was freaking fabulous! The author does not skimp on details so prepare for some serious heat. Fairy Unbroken is a wonderful tale of two people meant to be together but refusing to go down without a fight. GIVEAWAY: The author is giving away two Ecopies of Fairy Unbroken. Hope by Sam Crescent Genre: Science Fiction, post-apocalyptic, Futuristic, Romance Length: Novel TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 5 stars – A Must Read Heat: 4 handcuffs – An Erotic Ride. M3 was supposed to feed the overpopulated earth. Things go bad and Penny is now in a violent new world where a woman can’t even walk the street alone. She meets ‘mad dog’ who saves her and takes her under his wings. How can these two find love in a world so dark? To say this was a good book wouldn’t be doing it justice. The story blew me out of reality and into the violent world Ms. Crescent created. Everything about this story from characters to pace to romance even action was pure perfection. The Baker Gets His Man by Rebecca Brochu Genre: M/M contemporary romance Length: short story (32 pgs) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 4 stars - A Recommended Read. Heat: 4 handcuffs - An Erotic Ride. Jacob Stine has lusted and drooled after Race Carroway since Race opened his repair shop across the street from the bakery Jacob owns with his best friend. One day the sexual tension between them finally erupts, but Race then runs away and avoids Jacob for days. Jacob then has to decide if it is worth risking his heart by giving Race another chance or if it is time to move on to protect himself.
I really enjoyed this read. The characters seemed to jump off the page and I really enjoyed their fumbling encounters. Both men kept letting their lust for each other take over for their brains, and it caused some craziness between them. The resolution felt realistic and I liked that although it was too short for them to have "fallen in love", they both seemed ready to see where they could go with a relationship. It seemed to have the right amount of movement for a story of this length and I didn't feel cheated or rushed by the ending. This is an enjoyable story for when you have a shorter amount of time available to read.
The Beast in Me by Giselle Renarde Genre: paranormal romance; ménage Length: short story (38 pgs.) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 3 stars - A Good Read Heat: 4 Handcuffs - An Erotic Ride. Sarah is a young girl who has finally decided to slip out from under her controlling father's thumb by giving her virginity to her beau, Anderson, when things go horribly wrong for them. Out of nowhere, they are attacked and when Sarah finally finds herself again, several months have passed and her life has changed tremendously.
One of the challenges of reading this story was the lack of clarity in time and place. The dialogue led me to believe that it was set historically, but it was never completely clear to me. I also felt that each character accepted what had happened to them without nearly as much trouble as one would expect to see, and there never was an explanation as to how the pastor ended up in the condition they had, which I would have liked. However, the overall story was still an enjoyable read.
Something Shifty By, Erin M. Leaf Genre: Paranormal Romance, Gay Romance, Shifters TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf Rating: 4 stars - A Recommended Read. Heat: 5 Handcuffs - Orgasmic. Sometimes it takes losing everything to truly appreciate what you have. Dex Connor is a major rock star with an even more amazing group of people surrounding him but even so, it hurts him when is parents die before they can mend fences. As if he wasn‘t dealing with enough between his lost shifter abilities and their death, a great amount of responsibility is put on his shoulders to not only lead the clan but to find a mate. He feels as though the world is crumbling beneath his feet but when he meets Seth Dustin he learns that things often happen for a reason. I really enjoyed this unique twist to the usual shifter plot. It’s fast paced, entertaining, and beyond sexy. It might be a bit much for some people but I like to think it’s just the right amount of sizzle unfortunately the more we get into the spiciness we see a bit of repetitiveness in the plot. I loved the characters and not just the main ones. There is a whole cast of characters in this book and each one is very different and well written. They blend well amongst each other creating some really rich and enjoyable dialogue. However, there is not enough background detail given to the most important characters. There especially needed to be more rounding out when it came to Seth Dustin, especially as you expected it to be this big thing at the end where it would be revealed and instead there is disappointment because you find out nothing! Despite some of the minor glitches, it’s a really good book that I know I’m guaranteed to pick up and reread again.
