Lady Mechatronic and the Steampunked Kraken by Arabella Wyatt
Genre: Steampunk, Pirate, Fantasy, Adventure
Length: Novella
TBR reviewer: Brutally Honest
Rating: 3 stars - A good read.
Lady Mechatronic and the steampunked pirates are on the move again. In this adventure they find the most unusually of mysteries. Why did Kraken get some Lady Mechatronic’s technology infused with
his own body? A kraken out to kill pirates and traders alike. One with a laser shooting eye and mechanical tentacles. How will they survive this new threat?
So the bad first to get it out of the way: There was so much head hopping that it was hard to follow each character. The crew consists of several unique characters that I’d really like to know better. With the head hopping, the characters were ruined. It was so abundant that I wonder how an editor could have possible missed these?
Now that the unpleasantness is over with, here’s the good: The action was wild and I loved the introduction of Darwin into our crazy crew. The adventure of a kraken with advanced technology
was fantastic. Really well thought out and I really enjoyed the mystery aspect. This was an excellently plotted story and would have been a shiny five stars if not for the editing.
You don’t really need to read the entire series to keep up with the story but I recommend you do. The first two in this series were really fabulous!

Rating: 2 Stars – Had potential
I love pirate novels so I was quick to pick this up. The plot was solid but the characters fell flat and the pace was so slow I lost interest quickly. Then there’s the head hopping, which drove me nuts. That was the killer for this book. It needed to be re-worked grammatically and cut significantly for it to be a book worth getting into. As is, it was simply a story with lots of potential that didn’t work out.
Lady Mechatronic on The Cannibal Island by Arabella Wyatt

I freaking love this series and when I found out there was a third book out, well let me tell you, I begged and pleaded and drooled when I finally downloaded it onto my nook. Lady Mechatronic is an advanced alien from space who crash landed. She survived but landed beside a noble man who recently had a run in with the dirty law. The crash changed them and now the humans on that ship are evolving. In this book they find themselves on Cannibal Island, hoping not to be tonights dinner.
Oh no, head hopping, major horrible head hopping! I was so disappointed when an entire chapter was so badly written. It was an interesting look into all the characters but with all the jumping from person to person it really ruined the start of the book. There were some instances that really stood out such as the author explaining what a Power Monkey was. It was so technical, instead of blending it into the story it was just sort of added like a dictionary lookup. The action scenes in the last two books were so entertaining and here they were just rather dull. Sure, there was action but nothing different and with the jumping to each characters it was very confusing. There were also more editing issues that hindered the story.
I loved this series but this particular book fell flat. It needs to be edited with a fine tooth comb. No more head hopping, fix the grammar issues, work on solid action scenes from one Point of View and then maybe it’ll be enjoyable. I’m sorry to say this is a waste. I do however, recommend the other two books in this series, they were gems.

Gilly McCoy has had the worst luck and it really doesn’t seem to be getting better even when she is “rescued”. Is it considered saving if it’s done by a pirate? Wouldn’t that just be jumping from one frying pan to another? Thayer Drake isn’t too sure about his luck after freeing the fool woman not once but twice! There is just something about her though that begs to be rescued.
I liked this book. I loved her pirate series and I can see that being true for this series as well but the previous book was better. There were amazing three-dimensional characters that are not only charming and interesting but imperfect as well. There was more of a vulnerability to these characters than the ones prior and that’s difference that I really enjoyed.
Again, we have over three hundred pages! Can’t even begin to explain the joys of having something to read that substantial. The plot is extensive as well with twists and adventures. I still found myself getting lost into the book and being pulled into another world, such was the details.
Beware though because there is not the steaminess as before and you will find yourself looking for it, at least I did. Because of this, I’ll admit to finding the book dragged a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the slow build up to the relationship but personally it angst for longer than I could really get into. I was so invested in the characters that there were times I found myself screaming at Drake to just rip Gilly’s clothes already! Yet when we do get to the love scenes, they are hot!
I just found the balance wasn’t quite the way it was in the book before. However I’m still looking forward to reading the next book in the series because there is just no way that I couldn’t not read it, there fun, enjoyable, and remarkably well written.

Sometimes a woman’s got to do what a woman’s got to do and take fate into her own hands. So that might land Marisol in the hands of a charming rouge of a pirate but time will only tell if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. At the start of the journey Blade thinks his luck is looking up but the more he is in close proximity to Marisol the more he thinks that might be an uncertainty.
There was so much that I liked about this book. For starters how about the fact that it is actually a book, it wasn‘t a story that I was just calling a book. There is well over three hundred pages, I might have actually thrown a hand pump in the air and done a little jig. It was amazingly refreshing to finally read something with substance again.
The plot flowed! I was able to completely lose myself into the story line just as I would with a big screen movie and with the all the detail, that’s what it felt like. I truly felt as though I was watching a movie play before my eyes rather than just reading something, I was lost into this other world and taken away for a bit.
A Kiss in the Wind is truly a high energy book that I had a blast reading, can’t wait to read the next in series!
Air by Ravon Silvius
Novel
Pirate, romance, M/M

Nathan is an air mage who has had a hard life. In this world he mourns the loss of his best friend Tom, but that one true friend is not dead.
The beginning with all the explaining about this new magical world was a bit much. It was all sort of thrown at the reader, which made it a tad confusing. Still, underneath that was a very interesting and well thought idea. There were a few, very minor editing issues. Nothing drastic but I thought i’d mention it for those that are a stickler for grammar. There was a bit of an issue with flow. Some parts were so bogged down by useless chatter that it was really hard to sink completely into the book.
Despite that the story is still a solid four stars and very close to five stars! The characters were absolutely fantastic and the plot was unique as well as entertaining. The author did a great job with the action scenes. The relationship that grew between Tom and Nathan was perfection. It was slow but not dragging and because of that their attraction was very solid and sexy.
Air is an imaginative, wild ride that I highly recommend!
Steampunk, Pirates - novel

Review
It’s the sequel to Lady Mechatronic and The Steampunked Pirates. I’m so excited to read this. I’ve been waiting since I read the first novel. The beginning is pretty much a recap of the first novel. I hate that. It was an information dump that should have been avoided. That comes down to editing. It made me cringe every couple of sentences: Run-on’s, head hops, ect. Yes, the editing is bad but the story more than makes up for that lack.
As always it’s the crew and how the author managed to pack so much punch into each character. From the one legged, one armed, eyeless, nose less and earless Lucky Pete to the delicate Susanna. Captain Hartwell is all honor and dignity while Lady Mechatronic is a bundle of everything. The action is swashbuckling entertainment with a few lightning bolts and fine
metallic whips from arms. It’s unique and well written.
You all know how I feel about ‘to be continued’endings. They suck. They cheat the reader and I’m highly against them. (Except in this series, because I like it that damn much.) So, you were warned about the ending in advance but try this book. Despite the problems, Journey to Pirate’s Cover is truly a treat.
The Lady Mechatronic series is Pirates of the Caribbean meets the sci fi channel. I really like this series and would love to see it as a movie.
