Baby Stetson by Nikki Lynn Barrett Genre - Romantic suspense Length - Novel TBR Reviewer - Daniella Rating: 4 stars - A Recommended Read. Heat: 3 - Blush Worthy. This story is about Avery, who was adopted by two wonderful parents, after she was found abandoned on a door step. Her nickname and stage name as a singer is Baby Stetson, as when she was found as a baby she was wearing a little Stetson hat.Even though Avery is very happy with her adoptive parents and the life she has, she can´t help but wonder about her birth parents. The answers seem to be coming when two guests check in to the inn owned by her parents and causes a turmoil in Avery´s previously safe and stable life. One is the sexy, but very secretive Lucas, to whom Avery feels an immediate attraction. The other is a man who claims to be Avery´s birth father. This was a very well written book with great characters and a great story. It had a very good balance of romance, suspense and action. It is a page turner, with a good plot that keeps you guessing about all the characters true stories and their motives. Avery and Lucas is a lovely couple with great chemistry. They had some ups and downs on their way to their, albeit a little bit rushed, happily ever after. One part of the story came from left field a little and could have been left out (sister Paula) and the few sex scenes felt a bit clumsy (in otherwise great writing). All in all this was a very enjoyable and recommendable book and I can´t wait to read the next book about Avery´s childhood friend and band mate Jameson.
Lethal by Sandra Brown Genre: Romantic Suspense Length: Novel – soft cover – purchased TBR Reviewer: Christine Rating: 5 stars – A Must Read. Heat: 2 handcuffs – Flirty. Sandra Brown, how talented you are! Keeping me up all hours of the night, completely engrossed in the story you weaved. Every book I’ve read by her been wonderful or a favorite. Lethal is about Honor and her daughter Emily. There is a bleeding man in their backyard and when they go to check on him, he takes them hostage. Coburn is all over the news, mass murdered, focus of a massive man hunt and now he has Honor’s daughter in his sights. How the hell is she going to get out of this one? Twists, crazy action, sweet romance and of course, a cute 4 year old that likes to ask a million questions. This book had it all and more. I could not put this book down, too good, so I read into the night and the wee hours of the morning. When I finally came upon the last page I grinned, satisfied.
Lethal by Sandra Brown is the epitome of a five star romantic suspense novel.
Blessed Homecoming by Lorraine Nelson Genre: romantic suspense Length: novel (227 pgs.) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 5 stars - A Must Read. Heat: 1 handcuff - Tame. Wendy Danforth is a very pregnant, newly divorced woman when she steps off the bus in her hometown to return to her parents' home. Her past threatens both her emotional well-being and her life, but she is immediately attracted to her parents' new handyman, Jake Roberts, a drifter with an emotionally fraught past of his own. Both Wendy and Jake fight the instant attraction between them regardless of the elder Danforths' matchmaking attempts, but as Wendy's ex continues to threaten, events conspire to drive them together.
I found both Wendy and Jake to be realistic, likable characters with real problems and a discernible development of their relationship. The instant attraction was not insta-love, which I appreciated in this story. It definitely made their push and pull believable. I also liked watching both of their pasts come out and be dealt with, together and separately. Rather than a "love cures all" type story, this one seemed a lot more like love encouraged each one to grow and heal. I especially liked the time where Wendy's baby was born and what all precipitated from it. The suspense plotline also wrapped up satisfyingly.
This is the second novel by Lorraine Nelson that I have read, and I think her writing is well-done and she tells a masterfully crafted romance. Half in Love by Lea Barrymire Genre: paranormal , erotic romance Length: 148 Rating: 5 Stars - A Must Read! Heat: 3 Handcuffs - Blush Worthy. I have to start off by saying Ms. Barrymire can write a damned good story. Willie is my kind of heroine, strong and sassy with a take-no-bull shit kind of attitude. Shaped by a horrific past that placed her between two worlds, shifter and vamp, she’s simply existing. When she’s not battling vamps intent on killing her because she’s a half-breed. Our girl doesn’t play, she’s always equipped with a wicked blade and has fighting skills that made me feel like I was watching an action flick. Her life goes into crisis mode when she meets her mate, Alex… the vampire.
Alex is amazing. Two words: vampire historian. He’s sexy, intelligent, and strong. While he has alpha moments, he knows when to give and essential for dealing with the wounded and distrustful Willie. Drugged by unknown assailants, he’s dependent on Willie’s kindness to get him home. The bonding instinct triggered inside him by her scent is an unexpected, but appreciated surprise. Willie ants to ditch him before the bonding mark happens but the dead body tossed in front of her home ends that plan.
I was intrigued from the moment the book opened until it ended. There were twists, turns, surprises, action and some steamy scenes right along with sweet. Her descriptive words made me feel like I was watching a movie! Honestly, I don’t have a bad word to say about this one. She was in her zone and it showed. BLURB Dyletri, God of Fertility, has locked away his powers. No woman is allowed to touch him, not until he can return his long-dead lover back to life. All he has to do is sacrifice one human girl, a girl who unlocks his powers and rips his dormant lust right out of his body. Trapped by his promise, Dyletri has no choice but to watch Ismini die, no matter how much he wants her.
Yet the darkness of his calling is spiraling within him, demanding he claim the human as his. If he goes back on his promise, the energy of the Fates will cause untold destruction in the Universe. That doesn’t change how Dyletri’s begun exhibiting symptoms that point to more than just lust. How does he allow Ismini to die when she’s come to own him from the inside out?
Desire and torment spiral into something much darker than obsession, more turbulent than an addiction, and something much more brutal than a mere soul-mating. As a war is being rekindled right under his nose, Dyletri will have to come to terms with a destiny eleven thousand years in the making. He thought he’d known what path his future would take, but he’d been wrong. Now the one woman he truly loves might pay the price for his decision.
Blood Flows Deep in the Empire is the first in a series that will pit free-will against Destiny, Destiny against Fate, and love against brutal desire. Everyone likes to think they have a choice as to who they end up with, but as they rise to face the greatest threat they’ve ever known, even the Gods will learn they have to bend to Destiny’s whim to survive. REVIEW Dyletri is the God of fertility but he fell in love with a human woman and she was murdered after going crazy. However, she’s not truly gone. Her soul’s twin may be able to bring him a happy ending. That is if he can find her soul twin eleven thousand years later and sacrifice her to return his lost love.
I love stories where Gods are explored. It thrusts me back into the world of Xena and Hercules. In this story, each God and Goddess had unique powers as well as personalities. The author did a great job building this world where the Gods watch over the mortal humans. It was a difficult to scroll back to find the explanations to certain words on the index since I was reading on my Nook. Along with these ‘alien’words were common curses so it was silly to have an index in the first place. Still don’t let that deter you. Dyletri is a fantastic character. I constantly found myself amused or smiling at his thoughts and actions. Ismini is the girl he is supposed to sacrifice and I instantly liked her. She was tough but also vulnerable. Ismini really hit a nerve with me. Her best friend Evesse was one of my favorite characters and the author hints at Evesse being mated to one of the other Gods. Some parts were long winded and I had to focus on not skimming. Still everything intertwined nicely to give this story a real bang.
The romance aspect of the story was wonderful and very sweet. That scene in the temple was scorching! Yes, there was action, a lot and very well written. Then we come to the ending, where I sat on the edge of my seat, eyes glued to my Nook. The ending of this book was intense and explosive. I couldn’t get enough! I can't wait to read the next book in this series and really hope it’s Evesse’s story!
Blood Flows in the Empire is an intense, wild adventure! TBR REVIEWER: Christine AUTHOR BIO N. Isabelle Blanco, the woman who would come to be known as “Nyddi,” was born in Queens, New York. By age three, due to an odd fascination with studying her mother’s handwriting, she’d already begun to read and write. By the time she reached kindergarten, she was reading at a second-grade level, not to mention talking up a storm and showing off her extensive vocabulary. Her obsession with words and reading ended up bleeding into every aspect of her life. As she got older, romance novels took the reins of her obsession, leading her to devour every romance story she could find.
Thanks to the world of Japanese Anime, N. Isabelle was introduced to the wonderful universe of Fanfiction. She would come to write fanfics on and off again as a hobby for the next ten years, but it wasn’t until the Twilight phenomenon came along that she began dedicating hard hours to writing. For the next year and a half, she amassed a following that, by her own admission, she would never be able to live without. It is those fans that encouraged her to step beyond the fanfic realm and take her talent out into the publishing world.
N. Isabelle’s first ebook novel, Destructively Alluring, came out in July of 2012, followed by "Addictive Lunacy" in September, and "Allure Magnified" in November of 2012. The Writer’s Coffee shop Publishing House has recently signed her first print novel, the highly anticipated first book in the Szolite series. Blood Flows Deep in the Empire is scheduled to be released in March of 2013 and will be available in both print and ebook formats. CONTEST Comment below to enter. Her Unlikely Bodyguard by Lorraine Nelson Genre: romantic suspense Length: novel (168 pgs.) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 4 Stars - Recommended Read. Heat: 4 Handcuffs - An erotic Ride. When Jemma Leigh Harding returns to her hometown after a ten year absence, she is doing more than coming to care for her cancer-stricken mother and father with diabetes. She is also healing an estrangement with them, introducing them to their grandson, and running from a stalker that has made her life miserable for six months. The last thing she expects is to be nearly run-down by her high school sweetheart on her first day home, breaking her ankle and allowing him to discover the truth about her return. Ted Garrity has also recently come back to Sommerville after time in the Army, marrying, having a child and losing his wife to a land mine. Jemma Leigh awakens all his protective instincts when he hears about her stalker, and soon they are spending all their time together again.
This story has just the right amount of romance and suspense. The mystery of Jemma Leigh's stalker as well as that of her past are interesting, as is the reconciliation with Ted. I loved how the answers to Zach's questions came out and the development of all the family relationships that Jemma Leigh and Zach had been missing. The final revelation of the stalker was a shock as well. My only real quibble with the story is that the timeline was hard to follow - at times, it seemed that events were following one upon another, but then something would be mentioned that showed several days must have passed (how her ankle healed, for example). I found that slightly disconcerting, but the writing was well done and the story worth reading. Ted and Jemma Leigh made a great romantic couple and the various Mounties made great side characters, as did Stacey and the children and grandparents. Giveaway: Comment below to enter. Tower in the Woods by Tara Quan Genre: Zombie, romance, post-apocalyptic, bdsm Length: Novella TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – Recommended Read. Heat: 4 handcuffs – An erotic Ride.
What a unique idea! At the end of the world, we have zombies! Along with a virgin sniper trapped in a tower, rope made out of zombie hair and some wicked rope bondage. Add that to witty one-lines and extremely well written characters – you have Tower in the woods by Tara Quan
At the beginning, there’s a scene in her POV and then the same scene in his POV. That was the first hurtle with this book. It slowed down the entire pace and it was redundant. It hurt the book rather than helped. There was a puppy torture reference that I absolutely hated and I nearly put the book down for that single line. It was horribly disturbing and completely unnecessary. There’s also a major hop in the story. They have sex and then jump to a week later, which put a damper on the character’s connection.
Still, after those issues the book comes together quite nicely. The characters were well written and the story itself a solid read. I’ve never read anything that blended a fairytale with zombies. It was a really good idea, the plot was well fleshed out and there were no annoying slow spots. The pace was constantly even. The sex was smoking hot with some bondage. I enjoyed it and would like to read more from this author. Zombies plus fairytale story plus a talented writer equals a book you must read!
I Hear Voices by Gail Koger Genre: paranormal romance; romantic suspense; humor Length: novel (200 pgs.) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 4 Stars - Recommended Read. Heat: 4 handcuffs - An erotic ride. This story takes the reader on a rollicking ride through the life of Zelda Dragos, a psychic who comes from a family of thieves as well as demon-slayers. After running from the evil side of her family, Zelda took a job as a telephone psychic, but with the downturn in the economy, she is now unemployed, broke, and about to be evicted when she decides to go on a treasure hunt for Montezuma's gold. She has no idea what she is in for as she goes up against Derek Sloan, who found the medallion they both hope will lead to the treasure. This book is filled with over-blown, larger than life, flamboyant characters and situations. The various Dragos relatives on both the "good" and bad sides of the family are hysterical, especially Zelda's dead grandmother that is both training her to be a demon slayer and matchmaking! Derek has plenty of his own secrets, and as the two are thrown together repeatedly, his seem to balance out hers. Zelda is a trouble magnet and spends most of the book trying to fight away from being a pawn in the games being played; she wants to be her own player, independent, etc., but finally faces her own shortcomings.
Be prepared for evil ghosts, demons,a virgin sacrifice, sarcasm, and a heroine with a love of Godiva chocolate. (One of my favorites scenes contains a whole new meaning to the phrase "Death by Chocolate!".) This romp of a story has a bit of a Indiana Jones meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer feel to it and balances the dangerous situations well with humor. PURCHASE HERE
Dark Dates by Tracey Sinclair Genre: Paranormal, Romance Length: Novel TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 5 Stars – A Must Read! Heat: 2 handcuffs - Flirty.
So, I now have to try to explain how amazing this book was. The story was unique. Cassandra runs a dating service for vampires. The older ones that haven’t gotten into the technology groove. She’s sleeping with a man that saved her life but only shows up every few years. He kills these ‘monsters’ and hides some serious secrets. Things go crazy, she’s being attacked at every turn, add in some funny one-liners and utterly likeable characters. This is book is perfect. Cain who slays monsters and keeps her bed warm sounds delicious. The author never quite passes that line into real sexy but stays in the ‘safe’ zone. Still the story more than makes up for the lack of heat! There was a perfect balance of story and romance. The action was intense and several times I found myself leaning forward, engrossed in the fabulous story unfolding. The side characters were very intricate and a well written heavy presence. Medea and Katie are the witch and the werewolf – sorry Wiccan and Shapeshifter (You’ll get it when you read the book.) They were PERFECTLY written. I know I keep using that word but seriously. This book is fantastic. It should be a bestseller with an upcoming movie. Dark Dates is unique and if you’re reading one book this year (which is a stupid saying but still...) read this!!
Full Throttle by T.C. Archer Genre - Suspense Romance Length - Novel TBR Reviewer - Daniella Rating: 4 Stars - Recommended Read. Heat: 3 handcuffs - Blush worthy. This was a light read. It is set in the NASCAR racing world, and although I have only seen a few races on TV, the book never felt too technical. The races rather sucked me in and made my adrenaline pump. One of the main characters in this story is Gail “Jimmy” James, the first female head mechanic for Howards Motors and in NASCAR. She is very well qualified with a lot of good ideas, but when strange things start to happen, people around her start to question her experience. Then a threatening note appears in Jimmy´s locked tool box, the team realizes that it wasn´t about rookie mistakes, but that they have a saboteur among them.
I thought that Gail and Rex were interesting characters, both strong and independent but not without faults. One of Gail´s biggest problems is that she tends to punch first and ask later, especially with Rex. The mystery and the racing was a bigger part of the story than the romance, but I thought that the mystery part was really good and kept me guessing to the end. The story did get a bit confusing in the last half, and the romance bit felt a bit rushed and on the side.
The few sex scenes in this books didn´t do it for me, mostly due to the wording. I agree that you might want to use a few euphemisms, but in this book it felt like the author came up with as many euphemisms as possible to avoid naming any body parts by their real names. As a whole I liked this story and I think everyone can enjoy it, NASCAR fans or not.
