Jessica Jones was ripped apart when she found out that her  father was leaving her mother but that was nothing compared to the pain of watching her mother slowly die. While at the family cabin licking her wounds, life throws her a life jacket in the form of two hunky rescuers. Rory and Evan are more than happy to show Jessica that not all men are made alike, if they can just get her to take a chance on them.

Just another seal shifter… wait, nope, never read one of those before. Thank God, originality here we come! In every way this book was breath of fresh air to a jaded book reader such as myself. From the relationship to the shifters involved, even the plot kept me on my toes with all the emotion and the
anticipation as to where the book was headed. It was fast paced but the length and the fact that we were reading a shifter book balance everything out nicely.

I really like the characters. I wasn’t particularly a fan of Evan and Rory’s relationship as far as the bedroom but that’s the only glitch in the book and maybe if I’d understood their relationship a little bit better than it might have been smoother. Without knowing everything though the whole 'no, eww, we
share but I’m not touching him' with added blood brother, just didn’t work for me. However, the interaction with Jessica did and I really enjoyed their relationship with each other outside of the bedroom.  Regardless of  whether I got their physical relationship or not, I will say that the sex scenes had me flushed and roaring to go. They were HOT!

Riptide was a well written, steamy tease that I could not peel myself away from until the last page.

Waiting For Darkness by Fionn Jameson
Genre: Vampire, Shifter, Witch, Paranormal, Erotica
Length: Novella
TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest
Rating: 3 stars – A Good Read.
Heat: 4 Handcuffs – An Erotic Ride.
Tanith is a dominate female vampire and she just meet her match, a shifter king who’s totally attracted to her, a sexy Irish witch that wants her and a dangerous new hunter roaming her city.

So many good and bad issues with this book. I’m going to try to blend them together so you can get a sense of both because although it had some problems it was still a really well-written book. There’s a unique quote before each chapter. As interesting as they are it really threw me out of the story. I wanted to continue reading but was stopped by quotes and after the third or fourth one, I just skipped them. Too interruptive. Some events/movements were off. Such as Jamison, the witch, being on the couch but then suddenly he’s grabbing her arm. Did he float there? Stretch his arm muscles so he could reach that many feet across? That happened with a few scenes. Disjointed just fits the book perfectly.

I really liked Tanith at the beginning. Bad ass vampire, doesn’t take shit, what’s not to like? However, her personality kept doing a flip. At the beginning she was a badass but a chapter or two later she tells us both shifters and witches are stronger. Then she gets overpowered by the shifter king and later by Jamison, so what happened to being a badass? Tanith also is dominated by Jamison so quickly, like she’s the submissive. A total personality change. This sex was smoking hot but the characters were disjointed. Almost as if the author wrote a chapter, waited a few weeks then wrote the next chapter just from memory of the first chapter.

Despite the issues with this story, the author is very talented. There was NO head hopping, the pace was perfect and the romance wonderful. This book is a solid three stars, I’d even bump it up to a three and a half if I could. She is a good writer. This book is just, well, disjointed. (I know I used that word about three times but it just fits. )

I’ve read a book from her pervious and enjoyed it so keep a look out for more from this author.

Wolf Night by Tracey Sinclair
Genre: Vampires, Shifters, Witches, Romance, Paranormal
Length: Novel
TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest
Rating: 4 stars - A recommended read.
Heat: 3 handcuffs - Blush Worthy.
Oh, Cassandra, how do you managed to get in the middle of so much chaos? This is the second novel in the Cassandra Bick Chronicles by Tracey Sinclair. The first book, Dark Dates, was a favorite of mine and the sequel Wolf Night was just as fabulous. Cassandra is in the middle of two sexy men, evil two timing witches and hungry Shifters, oh my!

Sinclair’s characters are so vivid. They work so well, I feel like I’m watching a movie or television show. I love the triangle going on between Cassandra, the fallen angel Cain and the sexy vampire Laclos. There’s a long list of reasons to pick each one and I’m so excited to see whom Cassandra picks. Oh, and can I have the man she doesn’t pick? Both Cain and Laclos are super sexy with beautifully flawed personalities. There was a great sex scene that was more sensual, it was tastefully written and a blowjob
scene that had me all sorts of hot. Add in moments where I literally laughed aloud, Cass has some awesome one-liners. This book did however need another, heavy edit. There were many issues with that. The action really was fantastic too! There were some parts where my mouth hung open at certain twists and no I won’t say a peep. You must read the book to find out. I suggest reading Dark Dates before this and you will fall in love with these characters as I have!

I really enjoyed this book! The plot to Wolf Night was perfection and I cannot wait to see what trouble Cassandra gets into next!

Something Shifty
By, Erin M. Leaf
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Gay Romance, Shifters
TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf
Rating: 4 stars - A Recommended Read.
Heat: 5 Handcuffs - Orgasmic.
Sometimes it takes losing everything to truly appreciate what you have. Dex Connor is a major rock star with an even more amazing group of people surrounding him but even so, it hurts him when is parents die before they can mend fences. As if he wasn‘t dealing with enough between his lost shifter abilities and their death, a great amount of responsibility is put on his shoulders to not only lead the clan but to find a mate. He feels as though the world is crumbling beneath his feet but when he meets Seth Dustin he learns that things often happen for a reason.

I really enjoyed this unique twist to the usual shifter plot. It’s fast paced, entertaining, and beyond sexy. It might be a bit much for some people but I like to think it’s just the right amount of sizzle
unfortunately the more we get into the spiciness we see a bit of repetitiveness in the plot.

I loved the characters and not just the main ones. There is a whole cast of characters in this book and each one is very different and well written. They blend well amongst each other creating some really rich and enjoyable dialogue. However, there is not enough background detail given to the most important
characters. There especially needed to be more rounding out when it came to Seth Dustin, especially as you expected it to be this big thing at the end where it would be revealed and instead there is disappointment because you find out nothing!

Despite some of the minor glitches, it’s a really good book that I know I’m guaranteed to pick up and reread again.

Gustav's Gargoyle Adventure By, Charlie Richards
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Gay Romance, Shifters
TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf
Rating: 4 Stars - A Recommended Read.
Heat: 4 Handcuffs - An Erotic Ride.
Sometimes it just takes time and gentle hands to heal a wounded soul. Having someone else to lean on helps a lot too. Gustav is doing just that, surviving and licking his wounds, and he’s doing a pretty good job at it with the help of a variety of shifter friends. When he catches the scent of his mate he finds it’s even easier to heal when you have someone who is always there for you.

This is a sweet well-written book about some unlikely shifters getting together and a whole bunch of clutching your stomach humor along the way. There is no angst to the plot but nor is there any villains.
I love Gustav, he’s a gentle giant all the way around. He might have been a victim of abuse but he is shown as realistically handling things and not as a victim but as a survivor. He’s quirks in the book are relatable but emphasized to give added humor, which easily kept a smile on my face throughout the
telling. I love the whole adopted primacy of Tible. It added extra oomph and humor to the story. I wish it had been expanded just a bit more to help round out some of the questions I had as far as how they knew so much about gargoyles and yet didn’t know some important gargoyle information that arises in the book.

I loved the simplistic fun of this book. I enjoyed it from start to finish. There could have been more expansion on certain parts seeing as this wasn’t plot laden, it really needed a little more meat in sections. However, it’s still a really good read that I absolutely recommend to those that need a nice hot
chocolate read once in awhile.

Taming His Beast By, Marie Medina
Page Count: 77 pages
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter Romance, Vampire Romance, Ménage
TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf
Rating: 4 stars - Recommended Read
Heat: 4 Handcuffs - An Erotic Ride
If you want to know if God has a sense of humor than tell him you have a plan. Vampire Tristan is about to find out that this is an all too true statement. Just because he doesn’t want his familiar John to know the depth of his love and to have to make a choice of becoming a vampire doesn’t mean that fate won’t step in and make the choice for him. And just because fate made Werewolf Rory his mate doesn’t mean that Rory doesn’t feel the pull elsewhere. Hold onto your seat, things are about to get complicated and bumpy.

Let me start by saying that I like this book, hence the four star but the first chapter is just not good. The conversations between characters are very stilted and the dramatic attack scene was blandly told. I had moments were I screamed at the author that adjectives are her friends. Just
when I thought I would quit we find ourselves into the real angst and meat of the story and it would seem the author found her pace.

I really loved how the author caught the essence of the ménage. No one relationship was more important than another though none of the characters in the book realized that, which made for some very nicely played angst. I also enjoyed that none of the men are anything alike. Tristan is a bit selfish and childish, John is the one that is more of the adult out of all of them, and Rory is adorable but the most vulnerable.

While I can’t give this a five star for reasons mentioned above. It’s still a must read for the unique twist to the paranormal romance plot and well, the sex is just too hot to miss!

Dark Dates by Tracey Sinclair
Genre: Paranormal, Romance
Length: Novel
TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest
Rating: 5 Stars – A Must Read!
Heat: 2 handcuffs - Flirty.

So, I now have to try to explain how amazing this book was. The story was unique. Cassandra
runs a dating service for vampires. The older ones that haven’t gotten into the technology groove. She’s sleeping with a man that saved her life but only shows up every few years. He kills these ‘monsters’ and hides some serious secrets. Things go crazy, she’s being attacked at every turn, add in some funny one-liners and utterly likeable characters.

This is book is perfect.

Cain who slays monsters and keeps her bed warm sounds delicious. The author never quite passes that line into real sexy but stays in the ‘safe’ zone. Still the story more than makes up for the lack of heat! There was a perfect balance of story and romance. The action was intense and several times I found myself leaning forward, engrossed in the fabulous story unfolding. The side characters were very intricate and a well written heavy presence. Medea and Katie are the witch and the werewolf – sorry Wiccan and Shapeshifter (You’ll get it when you read the book.) They were PERFECTLY written.  I know I keep using that word but seriously. This book is fantastic. It should be a bestseller with an upcoming movie.

Dark Dates is unique and if you’re reading one book this year (which is a stupid saying but still...) read this!!

Play of Passion by Nalini Singh
Genre: Paranormal, shifter, romance
Length: Novel (Paperback – purchase)
TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest
Rating: 3 Stars – It was okay.
Heat: 4 handcuffs - An erotic ride.

I love the Psy series so I immediately picked this book up. I’m sorry to say that was a mistake. This was so jumpy. There were multiple character pov’s and I had a hard time keeping track of who’s who. That said, the hero and heroine already knew each other. Apparently, they’ve been friends since childhood but I didn’t feel that between them. They were too disjointed. The personality didn’t match the action. The sex was hot but with the characters so unbelievable it didn’t have that emotion impact. Overall, it was okay of a story. I liked the progression made in the psy world with Silence and Pure.

This was not Nalini Singh’s best work. I suggest picking up some of her other books.

Tiger Scars by Doris O’Connor
Novella
Genre: BDSM, Shifter, paranormal, Erotica
TBR reviewer: Brutally Honest
Rating: 5 Stars
Heat: 5 - Orgasmic

This is the second in the series so I was a little worried I’d be lost and despite a few small things, I was pretty much pulled into the story from the first scene. BDSM is big right now and I think Doris O’Connor is an author to look out for. This is what I craved reading. A book that wasn’t a book, but a new world I could sink into for a while. Cherie is bruised and broken inside. She rejects her mate, Ink, Which is a badass name for a character. Anyway, He is running on his last thread but blames himself for her emotion breakdown. The connection between Cherie and Ink is so deep and almost real in a way. I really felt their love and
Cherie’s fear with Ink’s frustration. The characters shined in this book and then there’s the plot. It gave this book another notch on the fantastic scale.

Tiger Scars is a book you should not pass up, heart wrenching, sexy and utterly satisfying.

A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Astrid Cooper
Novel
Shifter, Romance, M/M
TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest
This is another shifter story in the Monster’s Ink series by Astrid Cooper. This one is about Alex and Kellyn. Alex has dreadlocks and is a recluse furniture artist. I haven’t read too many books with the main character having dreadlocks, which is a shame because they can be damn sexy. Kellyn is a shifter, scared and beaten by his fight with the vampires. Can they help and heal each other?

The beginning was slow moving but once Alex saw the starving cat things were very  rushed. Eventually the pace balanced. What really made this story enjoyable were the characters. Kellyn and Alex had such strong back stories and their personalities were fabulously flawed. Shifters aren’t new but the author did a great job of adding to this genre. The plot was solid and entertaining. Again, the characters were really fantastic. Their interaction was so well
written.

A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was a great read and I recommend it!
