This is the 4th installation in the Thunder Creek Ranch Series. Let me tell you this series made me fall in love with Cowboys all over again. Each can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading them in order to get the full effect of how talented Ms. Nelson is.

It starts with Leah and finding out the man she thought she loved it a cold blooded  murderer. The beginning certainly pulls the reader in. There were a few editing issues that popped up but nothing to take away from this entertaining story! What did take away was the cardboard dialogue between Luke (Leah’s brother) and her when she’s telling her story. She’s talking about rape, abuse, murder and she talks about it so impassive, not a tear and even giggles at one point when she goes for a cookie at the same time as Zakia
(Sister in law). It does get more substantial and soon the story takes off. Car chases, secret kisses and that’s just the beginning. She did a great job writing the action although some parts, like the end of the action scenes, felt very rushed. Some scenes just didn’t add up such as the car explodes and Michael goes out to get help. She doesn't hunker down and prepare or hid she eats dinner. What?! After an explosion? Like I said some scenes just didn't add up.

Now for the four star rating. Despite those issues it was still a very entertaining read. By the end I really loved the characters and was cheering for their happy ending. A Cowgirl's Pride is about the act of finding and capturing true love.

Cowgirl's Pride is a strong four star read that I definitely recommend.

Excerpt

He was so hot for her! If he didn’t get these damned jeans off soon, his erection just might pop the zipper. That’s how hard he was for her—so stiff the skin stretched tight over his cock and it ached.

She suddenly pulled free and backed away from him. He almost swore out loud in frustration, thinking she’d changed her mind, but she’d only gone to close the vertical blinds at the windows.

“Just in case,” she said, smiling a come-hither smile as she turned back to him.

He felt guilty for his unjust thoughts, but closed the distance between them in a heartbeat, relieved to have her back in his arms.

“I’ve missed you, Cal,” she said as she ran her fingers through his thick, wavy hair.

“No more than I’ve missed you. I was beginning to think you’d never come home.”

“Oh, I wanted to, so much, but it just wasn’t possible.”

“You’re here now,” he said, grabbing the hem of her sweater and pulling it over her head
to expose beautifully shaped breasts enclosed in see-through peach lace. “And I’m so glad you’re back.”

He bent to suckle her nipples through the lacy cups, her mindless purr of delight going straight to his groin. If he got any harder, he’d explode. Still, he took his time, banking his desire as best he could to give her pleasure.

Slipping his hands inside the waistband, he worked her blue jeans and sexy peach colored
thong down over her hips, promptly falling to his knees at the sight of her curls. He leaned forward, reaching out to touch her satiny skin, smell her spicy vanilla scent and taste the creamy essence that was Leah. He wanted—needed—all of it—all of her.

Review

I reviewed the first book in this series, Zakia and the Cowboy. Absolutely loved that book, five stars. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the second book in the series. This is Samantha and Blake’s book which are great characters in the first.

Samantha (Sam) is one armed, ex military with a dark past. Blake is an honest, gentlemanly cop. Together they make the pages burn with passion. Covert Mission is their search for true love with twists and turns battled along the way.

There were a lot of issues in this tale that prevented the shiny five star rating. First was the karaoke scene. It felt jammed in there, rushed and added absolutely nothing to the story. This scene felt as if Ms. Nelson added it simply for word count. There were a lot of domestic scenes which built the relationship between Blake and Sam nicely. These were separated by hot, well written sex scenes. The problem was the pace. It was so dull and rather lack luster. If I wasn’t reviewing this for TBR I would have skipped past them like a boring movie to get to the good parts. This strange jumpy pace continued through to the court scene.  This was abrupt and rushed. When we finally get to the action it’s 60 pages in! This left me at wondering if this would be a 3 or 4, rating wise.

Once Ray (The bad guy) escapes prison and Sam gets into an accident which leaves her with no memory things get interesting. Here is where the pace picks up and the story gets really good. The ending was a little too convenient and the twists weren’t really big surprises. Still there were hot cowboys and great characters. That’s one thing that Ms. Nelson really nailed, the characters. Sam was wonderfully witty and Blake a sweetheart. The sex was really well done too. Overall, the pace and plot needed work. So, the big question, would I recommend this? Yes. It’s still a very sweet read and the characters are wonderfully written.

Excerpt

“Enjoying the party?” he asked.

“Yes. There’s certainly a good turn-out.” The band struck up a waltz to slow things down and he rose to his feet, holding out a hand. She knew that being held in his arms was dangerous, but without a doubt, it would be delightful, too. She took his hand and allowed him to lead her to the makeshift dance floor.

Dancing with Blake had every one of her hormones on full alert. His moves were sure and masterful, leading her around with no trouble to follow his steps. She felt as if she glided on air, her feet barely touching the floor. When the next song proved even slower, he held her so close she could feel every beat of his heart as it thundered in her ear. Blake was a good head taller than she was, her cheek coming to rest against his chest as they danced. All her life she’d hated being short, until she’d found the perfect fit in Blake’s arms. With him, she felt petite and cherished.

She became aware of his hardened length pressed against her belly and her nipples beaded in
response. It had been such a long, long time since she’d been intimate with a man. Fear of seeing the disgust, or worse, pity, in their eyes when they looked upon her naked body for the first time, had kept her celibate since her accident. In truth, until meeting Blake, her desire had lain dormant, like a closed door to her very soul.

Now, she was all woman, with a woman’s wants and needs the like of which she’d never experienced. Her awakening due to the man holding her gently yet firmly against his heart, maybe it was time to start living again—to feel the flush of heated skin against skin as they succumbed to their attraction for each other. He was interested. She knew that. Had known since that first day on the ranch when they’d all arrived to help Luke protect his wife, Zakia, from a crazed stalker.

“Sam?” His husky baritone sounded in her ear.

“Yes?”

“The… uh… dance is over.” He chuckled. “Intermission. As much as I enjoy holding you, maybe we could sit for a spell?”

“Oh! Okay.” She’d been so lost in thought, she hadn’t been aware of anything except Blake’s
body against hers. “Want me to walk in front?” she teased.

He grinned. “Please do. Being this close to you has an obvious effect on my
libido.”

“Yeah, I noticed,” she said, allowing her hand to trail down over the ridge in his jeans as she turned to start walking back to their table.“Tease!”

Jesse returns to the ranch to find her lover, Meg, in trouble—raped and beaten by her ex. It’s up to Jesse to rescue her and to see that justice is done.

After a much-needed weekend of riding in the hills, Jesse returns to the ranch to find her lover, Meg, in trouble—ex-husband trouble. Meg had been raped, battered and bruised. It’s up to Jesse to rescue her and to see that justice is done. It’s also up to her to prove to Meg that their love can endure anything.

Review

I love western romances and recently became a fan of the lesbian genre. The blurb sounded dark and gritty, another favorite of mine. Those are my reasons for choosing Jesse’s Homecoming. This is also my first book by Jude Mason.

To say I’m disappointed pretty much sums up my experience with this novel. If I ignore the comma overload Mason is a great writer but the skill wasn’t the issue with this story. The big issue, the plot.

An abusive man is raping Jesse’s girlfriend and she walks in on it. Let me ask you, what would you do? Me, I would shoot him. No doubt, no hesitate, shot already fired. Jesse intends to let him go...*Shakes head* Okay, on a crazy chance this happens we’ll go with that. He tried something and she shoots him in the shoulder. That satisfied me. The bastard is bleeding but still a threat and she goes to her lover, Meg, and listens to the story of how this started while she was away. What?! The potential threat is right there and they start chatting away. Are you kidding me?

Yes, I read on despite that. They secure the rapist eventually and then give Meg a bath...If you could only see the look on my face. Why would you possible wait to get the sheriff? Yes, I understand she wants to be clean but Jesse should use common freaking sense. This anger me to the point of no return.

I’d also shoot the ‘big, strong’ ranch hands that left Meg with a man that slapped her and threatened to kill her. Jesse had to potential to be a great character but she had no depth and completely lacked sense. She’s one of those TSTL characters that make me cringe.

Jesse’s Homecoming comes down to this: Jude Mason has real talent, the skill is there but the plot is not.

With a stalker following her every move Zakia has no choice but to flee the city. With her options limited she runs to the only place she's ever felt safe...the Thunder Creek Ranch and her ex-husband, Lucas.

Will he protect Zakia from the stalker? And if he does will either of them be able to ignore the feelings that have simmered for so long, ready to explode... before  danger either draws them together or pulls them apart.

Review

Zakia is running from a stalker. She flees for protection to her ex-husband with the surprise that she not only had his child but twins. Can they rekindle lost love or will the stalker end any hope of a good future?

The beginning was hard to continue, it was telling and the story just starts. There’s the characters, there’s the scene with no gentle ease into the book. That said, KEEP READING! It gets so much better. The growing relationship between Lucas and his twins was beautiful. Then add the flames between him and Zakia, it makes for a dynamic read. I’m not a mother and usually kids in romance novels never end well but Ms. Nelson did a fantastic job
incorporating them without smothering the steam. There was sweet and romantic. That hay scene was something special.

There are small paragraphs from the stalkers POV and they really did not work as well as they could have. He/she should have had a lot more violent and malicious thoughts to be a convincing  psychopath. Some scenes were redundant, such as why she left. I must have read Zakia explaining it at least three times. If they were trimmed it would have really added to the story. Back to the stalker, halfway through I knew who it was, but I’m usually ahead of the game in these kinds of thriller books. The ending could have been flesh out and a real explosion of intensity, this just fizzled out but it was still very satisfying.

So why, do you ask, did it get 5 stars?! Well, it was sweet, romantic and truly entertaining. I really enjoyed the blooming relationship between the twins, Lucas and Zakia. If you have kids I have a feeling you’ll love this book. I don't have any and I still really loved this book. I can't wait to read the next in this series!

Pick up your copy of Zakia and The Cowboy and prepare to swoon.

Excerpt

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy,” he apologized.

He sat on the edge of the bed and struggled to remove his cowboy boots, then disposed of pants, briefs and socks. When he looked up and saw the still smooth, silky skin of her upper torso and full breasts partially covered by her beautiful, long, blonde hair, he had to ask himself how he got to be so lucky. Déjà vu was very much in existence as he admired the woman standing before him. Zakia was still every bit the exquisite, sexy woman she’d been on their wedding night, only now she was trying hard not to giggle.

“What’s so funny,” he asked with a grin as he reached for her.

“Just a little touch of déjà vu going on.”

“I was thinking the same thing. You’re just as beautiful now as you were on our wedding night,” he stated as he pulled her back into his arms.

“Well, I was thinking it funny that you said those exact same words on our wedding night.”

“What words?” he asked, curious and trying to think.

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy.”

“Ooohh, those words. It’s true. A cowboy doesn’t go too far without his boots.”

“Did you mean it, Luke?”

“Mean what?”

“That you still think I’m beautiful.”

“Do I need to install mirrors on every wall in the house?” he teased. “Yes, you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and sexily built. Now, shut up and kiss me.”

“Oh, I so like a man who knows what he wants,” she cooed.

When she reached for him, pulling him down for a kiss filled with all the passion he  remembered, his heart soared. Gone was the polite restraint they’d held to since her arrival. He kissed her back, longing for more, aching for the promise her lips delivered.

His hands moved to her breasts, rubbing and tweaking the nipples to turgid peaks, then massaging the silken softness until she moaned against his mouth in pleasure. Breaking the kiss, he took one rosy nipple into his mouth, sucking and nipping lightly before transferring his attention to the other one.

He worked his way down her body, one kiss at a time, having to keep a tight rein on his control as she breathed his name over and over again. Her body writhed beneath him as he reached her sopping pussy, her unique scent driving him wild as always. He parted her lips and kissed her, rubbing tiny circles on her clit with his thumb. His other hand reached beneath her to fondle her ass as he began sucking her, his tongue laving and prodding her wetness until he could take no more. Rising up, he coaxed her legs apart with his knees and positioned himself. As he looked into her desire-glazed eyes, he moved, pushing into her with one hard thrust.

Then he stilled. It had been as tight as their first time. “Did I hurt you?”

“Uh, uh.” She shook her head as her body began to move, encouraging him to pull out and push into her warmth again.

She grabbed his hips, pulling him closer, deeper, and they fell into a rhythm that told of their familiarity with each other. It was as if he’d gone back in time, back to the days of love and laughter, caring and sharing their lives, completing each other. He thrust in and out, faster, harder, seeking the rapture he’d only found with the woman lying beneath him.

Thought took a long, slow ride after that as they concentrated on catching up on years of lost loving, and he was pleased to note, she still had that deep, husky, pleading note in her voice when she screamed his name.

What happens when happily ever after meets reality? Susan and James Williams are drifting apart. After a devastating loss, their lives are thrown into further turmoil when a mysterious stone at a museum hurtles them back to the Old West. Their supernatural experience only intensifies the chasm between them, and when James realizes where they are, in a moment of anger, he pronounces that they were never married.

They go their separate ways, unsure of what this new world holds in store. James settles into a job as bartender. Befriended by local rancher Daniel Miller, Susan soon develops feelings for him. She’s torn between starting a new life in a new time and healing her marriage and returning to the twenty-first century.

Will the miraculous journey back in time help Susan and James reconcile, or has destiny set new roads for them to travel that lead them away from each other?

Review

I want to start off by saying this is a fantastic read!  I enjoyed the story and realness Ms. James brought to the tale.  But I spent a lot of  time being pissed at the lead characters. The husband and heroine James was a weak willed whiner who couldn’t deal with the fact that his wife was strong and independent. Instead of opening his mouth to talk to her about what was going on in his head, he antagonized her, pushing her further away with juvenile antics. If he didn’t want to be treated like a child I suggest he not act like one.

Now I’m a fair kind of gal, so I’ll admit Susan was no saint.  She threw tantrums that made her seem more like a student, than the teacher she actually was. I really wanted to shake her and make her see reason.  If you want to survive you must adapt, not stubbornly stick to a past that’s no longer relevant

James and his wife, Susan, have been married for the past twenty years, and are in a rough spot in their marriage. With empty nest looming in front of them and a painful miscarriage behind them the duo is barely able to tolerate one another’s presence. A school field trip to the museum with James acting as a chaperon sends the couple back to the 1800’s. It’s here that their marriage completely disintegrates, and James leaves Susan to fend for herself. Yea, you heard me right. After twenty years of marriage, and two children he walks away and leaves her alone in a place neither of them knows a damn thing about.

Can you tell I’m steaming? Above all else I’d think loyalty would be foremost after twenty-years of marriage. I thought James’s behavior once they were deposited in the past were unforgivable.  Maybe it’s the vindictive bitch in me, but if my husband did that to me I’d be done for good, after I gave him a swift kick to the genitals and a punch to the face once he hit his knees.

Despite the kinks mentioned about the story was engaging, well written, and full of unexpected twists and turns. She has a way of making you care about the characters, and what happens to them.  I just think she went overboard with the animosity between the hero/heroine. It made it pretty impossible to recover from. (At least to someone who can hold a grudge like me).

I really recommend this story to someone looking for romance with substance, and realness you can truly relate to.  Job well done Ms. James.

Excerpt

That god-awful dry sense of humor.

Opening her mouth, she formed a sarcastic retort before realizing the kids might have been listening. Thank the Lord, they were enraptured by the guide’s story and not paying any
attention to the old folks squabbling in the background.

Harry favored Susan with a toothy grin she now realized held wisdom behind it. “C’mon up here, Miz Williams, Mister Williams.” His hand beckoned, calling them to where he stood.
“You come touch the stone. You come find your destiny.”

Susan figured she owed him a little bit of cooperation. Not that she believed a word of that legend nonsense. Reaching for James’s hand, she dragged him with her toward the stone. “James, please.”

He threw her a heavy sigh before he complied.

“That’s it,” Harry said. “Come on up here, folks. Come touch the stone.”

James withdrew his hand from Susan’s and circled to the opposite side of the boulder. He leveled a hard stare at her, one that piqued her already bad humor. Before she could say a word, a noise startled her.

A hum. It started out as an annoying hum, like radio static or a swarm of cicadas. The sound quickly scattered her thoughts, sending them tumbling like autumn leaves on a windy day.
Steadily increasing in volume, the noise whirled and twirled in her head. Then suddenly, there were voices.

Your destiny, they whispered as a chorus in her mind. Find your destiny.

Shit. I’ve gone schizophrenic, right here in the middle of the stupid history museum. A history
teacher’s version of a nervous breakdown
.

The whispers became louder. Come with us. Come to us.

Squeezing her eyes shut, her hands flew to her ears as the sounds drowned out everything around her.

 Now! Come to us now!

Susan didn’t want to listen to the frightening voices. Where was James? She needed James.

She opened her eyes, searching desperately for her husband. The museum had vanished. There was nothing but her and James and the damned boulder, all bathed in a nearly
blinding white light. Wind started to whip around them, ruffling her hair and clothes and knocking her purse from her shoulder. She let the heavy thing drop to the floor without a fight. Wind, hell it was a hurricane. In the middle of the museum? Her eyes wouldn’t focus well, but she could see the hazy shape of James reaching out for her. “Make it stop, James. Please.”

“Susan!” His voice barely rose above the eerie voices and the sound of the wind. His hand was there, just out of her reach. She stretched out her arm, trying to grasp him, needing to
grasp him. “Take my hand, babe!”

Suddenly Harry was there, standing between them. “It’s time.” He grabbed both of their hands, smiled, and then slapped their palms to the rock.

When Zach McKnight, an irresistible oil rig worker with a thick-as-honey Texan drawl, first pokes into the secrets surrounding the mysterious Maddie Wells, he has no idea that the chance encounter will change his life forever. Maddie Wells is on the run with Jesse, the infant son of her murdered sister.

The boy’s father isn't far behind. He wants his son and is willing to kill to get him. Zach is intrigued from the first moment he sees the dark haired beauty in a hotel, but getting his hard working hands on her delectable body is more easily dreamt than achieved. He gets shot for his trouble, by Maddie no less, and sucked into the web of lies and fear that are her constant companions.

Review

When I review a book there’s always a pen and paper handy. I jot notes, quotes, the good and the bad as I read, then edit before I send it in to TBR. This book was a struggle to do that, which is a very rare occurrence for me. I was sucked into Ms. Quint’s world without the ability to pull free. Her characters were entrancing and the plot golden.

Zack, our cowboy, is the perfect man with big ‘artillery’.That’s the only way to describe him, one word, perfect. I’m taking a road trip to Texas after reading this book in case it was based on real cowboys! His family is intrusive, funny, and an absolute blast to read. The humor in here was original and witty, the condom fairy and the fornication police –need i say more?

Maddie and her sisters child Jesse were sweet. They made the darker plot of the story seem more intense and possibly a brighter future for everyone involved. She was vulnerable but strong enough to protect that child with her life if need be.

When Zack finally finds out who Maddie really is and she discovers why the crazy killer found them, I was clenching my fists. The entire book I read so fast, devouring each word on every page. The sex was insanely good, ‘oh my God, I need a cold shower right now’ good! The ending, let me tell you, it was explosive. Nothing could break my concentration when the battle finally arrived and all hell broke loose.

A Knight In Cowboy Boots is pure romance with a gun totting heroine and the perfect cowboy.

Excerpt

“Let me get that there drink for the lady, Pete.” Mr. East Texas Drawl stepped up to the bar. “That is, if the lady don’t mind?”

She turned her head cautiously, afraid moving too fast would blur her vision. Mr. East Texas was watching her, waiting for a cue his offer was welcome. Maddie cleared her throat. “Thank you.”

Oh, crap. She sounded all Marilyn Monroe breathy.

He handed the bartender a ten. Maddie expected him to pull up the next barstool. Instead, he
shoved it over with his foot and leaned one elbow against the bar. “So what’s a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?”

Maddie laughed. It should have sounded old, trite, and corny, but nothing said in that drawl could sound anything but enchanting to her. Her laughter lit something deep in Mr. East
Texas’s dark eyes. Maddie suddenly felt warm.

Sitting-in-front-of-a-raging-fire-on-a-cold-winter-night warm. The flutter in her heart moved into the pit of her stomach. “Don’t tell the bartender, but I’m casing the place to see if I want his job.” Maddie said, keeping her voice conversational. The bartender's eyebrows rose, but he didn’t comment. He’d no doubt seen this dance often enough.

“Ah, well. Looking for employment. That’s respectable then.” Mr. East Texas nodded sagely. “Though I gotta admit, I was hoping you was here for less reputable reasons.”

“You mean like looking for a man to take me away from all this?” Maddie's open-handed gesture included the entire bar.

“Even the best watering holes have a long tradition of that sorta thing. Why, my daddy met my mamma in a place a lot like this.”

Maddie fought to keep a grin from breaking out across her face. How long had it been since she’d engaged in light-hearted banter, never mind flirting? It seemed like eons. “Really?”

“Well, maybe there wasn’t as much brass and mirrors. Or the selection of beverages this fine
establishment has. And there ain’t no straw on the floor nor fiddle player in the corner . . .” He looked away as though seeking a fiddle player. “And they had dancin’.” His nostrils narrowed with an indrawn breath. His eyes came back to hers. “Damn. A man oughta take a woman dancin’.”

The flutter in Maddie’s stomach moved lower.

“What kind of dancing do you do to fiddle music?”

“The spirited kind.” He let a beat pass before he continued. “But I think you’re the kinda woman a man takes slow dancin’. Someplace where there ain’t much light, so’s nobody’d see
when I kissed you.”

He held her eyes, waiting for her response.

Someone down the bar hollered for Pete’s attention and he moved away. Their audience gone, Maddie swiveled on her barstool to face him straight on. “What if I didn’t want to be kissed?” she asked, knowing her body language sent a completely different message.

“Why, ma’am . . .” He leaned slowly closer as he spoke. “I don’t think I’d ask first.”

Sol McKnight has trouble letting go of his ex-wife. If that means he has to torpedo her love life, then so be it. After all . . . All's fair in love and war.

NOTE: This is a prequel to the upcoming McKnight Romance, A Dark and Stormy Knight.

Review

A new McKnight story! I’m so excited to read this. I fell in love with another book in this series A Knight In Cowboy Boots and I’m hoping Sol’s book will be just as thrilling. This is more of a look into his life.

Sol is a cowboy one of many well-hung guys in the McKnight family. He’s trying to win back the mother of his daughter and the love of his life. Georgia is a little harder to pin down, character wise, she was fighting this attraction with Sol tooth and nail.

The one part I must share, it’s an ‘oh my God, he didn’t’ moment. You’ll know exactly what I’m talking about when you read All’s Fair, the Sol vs. Bozo scene. Sol tells Georgia’s date some hysterical stuff to keep him away. My mouth dropped open and this shows just how determined he is to win her back. It was great!

This was really short and the story still pulled me in like a full novel. The ending was rather abrupt but promising. Plus Ms. Quint is generously giving this away for free! So follow the link below and pick up your copy. You won’t regret it.

All’s Fair is a spicy treat into the McKnight series, one that can’t be missed!

Noelle is full of icy cold attitude. Every bit the snotty princess of a rich family. Soon we find that this is just an exterior to hide a world of pain that she carries on her shoulder due to guilt. Cole may be a lowly ranch hand but he is an honorable man. He is deaf as well as poor and she has a past that haunts her, will the passion the ignite be enough to over come their obstacles.

What intrigued me about this story is that it’s not your normal western romance. It had too many different twists from Noelle’s broken past and Cole’s deafness to be considered anything but unique. The plot is steady and passion filled. I really enjoyed that while the characters immediately noticed each other, it wasn’t immediate love. There was a constant build-up to the relationship. Noelle is a Pandora box character with so many dimensions. She is strong, independent, full of spitfire, and yet she is vulnerable. Cole comes off as easy going but as the story unfolds you find a prideful man who's a bit self conscious. I think the book would have benefited had it been longer. There were so many dynamics to the book that 137 pages just wasn’t enough. It ended a bit too easily considering all the
angst. It’s defiantly worth the read.
