Sally Wilson, is trying to run the ranch where she is living with her two children. Despite her efforts, with only two good-for-nothing ranch hands, the ranch is very run down. When the mysterious Ramiro shows up looking for work, Sally hires him. Ramiro is a hard worker, and with him at the ranch Sally can
finally kick the other ranch hands out, and at the same time spend more time with her children and on her artistic endeavors. Sally feels an attraction and growing love towards the sad and sensitive man, who seems to give so much but expect nothing back. Will she ever be able to get closer to the very humble
and very private Ramiro?
This was previously published as a short story in an anthology and it is very short and feels a bit rushed. Especially towards the end. While getting to know Sally, her thoughts and interests relatively well, one does not get a feel for Ramiro. You get a glimpse of him through Sally´s eyes, but it doesn´t feel
enough. Especially, since Sally almost sees him as a superhuman being. I did enjoy the story though, and the slow build between the two and I especially liked the author´s style of writing. It tells a nice story about sometimes taking a chance in people and how far a little kindness can go.
