Left Drowning is an unbelievably powerful story of pain, heartbreak and loss. The story centers around college student, Blythe, a broken shell of a girl reeling from the horrific deaths of her parents four years prior. Her relationship with her younger brother has been fractured ever since and she has isolated herself from friendships and relationships of any kind. That is, until she suddenly finds herself thrust into the lives of four siblings, fellow students Christopher, Sabin, Estelle and Eric. As this eccentric group of friends miraculously start bringing Blythe back to life, romance flies between Blythe and eldest sibling, Chris. But the Shepherd siblings have a tragic story of their own and despite the unexplainable connection felt by all the players in this group, the road to happiness is a long and painful one.
I adored Flat-Out Love, the first story I read by Jessica Park, but I do believe that she outdid herself with this fantastic read. This book has it all. I cried ugly tears. The tragic stories behind Blythe and her friends will break your heart. The author paints a haunting picture through flashbacks and through the
characters' own narrative that will grip your heart until it hurts. My heart broke over and over again. The romance between Blythe and Chris is a perfectly imperfect one. It's filled with precious moments that will make your heart soar, and angst and drama that will break it just as quickly. Also,
surprisingly, I needed a cold shower more than once. Jessica Park did not hold back on the steam and heat by any means. Left Drowning is one seriously sexy story.
The characters in this book are so well developed, so incredibly diverse. Their personalities are refreshing, and beautiful and they compliment each other so well. I fell in love with every single one of them. The dialogue between them is so perfect and so creative. They had me laughing out loud just as often as I found myself bursting into tears .
Left Drowning is an emotional roller coaster of the very best kind, a ride that I didn't want to end. Jessica Park creates a compelling web of lives intersecting and unraveling, histories crossing, secrets unveiling, and hearts breaking and healing. I could write my own story of all the reasons I adored this story. I want to scream from the rooftop how absolutely remarkable I found it to be. Left Drowning is a beautifully written, flawless story that will stay with you long after the final page.
