I’m not sure what I expected when I picked this up. What I got was new, creative, and different take the story of Little Red Riding Hood, mix is with The Walking Dead, Shield, and Once Upon a time, and you might come close to the story Ms. Quan wove. Full of action, adventure, and thrills, the story will keep you wondering what’s going to happen next. The heroine, Scarlet’s grown up in the organization known for their initials, Witch. After a horrible virus is uleashed on the planet brining about the apocalypse WITCH bans together, protecting, killing, and forming their own patch of safe paradise. The problem is, with great power, comes corruption when left unchecked, and her Grandmother is the worst kind of evil.
Scarlet is looking to free the hundreds of young women under her Grandmother’ s thumb. As she advances in age her rule grows tyrannical and people begin to disappear. It’s only a matter of time before she begins to take them out one by one, and Scarlet will see the outcome change, or die trying. Hell bent on killing all who oppose her, Grandma sends Scarlet out into the infested hot zone for medicine hoping she’ll be killed. While I admired her strength and nobility, Scarlet came across as hard to believe at times, petite, yet incredibly skilled, smart , despite her isolation from modern society and up to par with military trained men, she felt over the top. The fast paced story and lack of background made it hard for me to make a true connection, and I couldn’t become as invested as I would have liked. I think the story would’ve benefited from more length, or less happening. What Scarlet ends up finding in her search for medicine is Marcus. An agent of a covert government operation , responsible for rebuilding civilization. The properly titled. WOLF, has been seeking out WITCH for years. The strong, intelligent, and witty man is easy to like. But the love that sprung up between them was a tough pill to swallow.
I loved the twist Ms. Quan put on the fairytales. For that reason I gave this a 4 but with bit more length, and further character development it easily could have been a five.

More Than Strangers
Author: Tara Quan

The heroine Nulli and hero Jason both are looking for the same thing: a single weekend escapade, with no expectations of ever seeing each other. Jason’s notoriously a playboy and Nulli just wants a good sexual encounter because she’s just accepted a job that will take her out of the area (Dubai is where they meet initially) for a year. They exchange phone numbers so they can text and stay in touch (not in the original plan), and go their separate ways. That quick weekend together grows into an extended six months of texting between the two. Then Jason’s sent in on a rescue mission where he encounters Nulli again.
I liked the book overall, but there really wasn’t much of a deep plot, which is where this book fell short for me. Nulli was smart and unafraid to go into bad areas in hopes of bringing help to the needy in some of the poorest areas on earth. Jason is a bit overprotective, but not stupidly so. There really was no larger plot that I came across, beyond the situation that brought them back together. Maybe it’s just a feature of such a short work, but other than their personal skittishness, there was no reason these two couldn’t be together. Still, I liked the characters and it’s nice to see a book set other than in America or Europe
(the bulk of this took place in the Middle East).
I will definitely keep Tara Quan and her Safe Harbor series on my radar to see if the next one is more developed, but this was definitely worth the read.
Warlock’s Pawn by Tara Quan

Rating: 4 stars – A Recommended Read.
Heat: 4 Handcuffs – An Erotic Ride.
This is the second book I’ve read from this author and they’re bother really impressive. Warlock’s Pawn is unique, has a solid plot and I see great things in the future if she keeps writing fabulous stories like this.
Alia was a beautiful characters in looks and personality and Duncan is a sexy bad boy with a good heart. They tale is a romantic, heated coupling that I loved. Mira and Garr’s story really took away from the main characters. I would have liked to have had less of them in the book and expand more on Alia and Duncan. The story is fantastic though with some magic, wings and really nice world building. This was a quick read and very entertaining. I really enjoyed the romance and the adventure.
Warlock’s Pawn is a story of love among war and some magic to keep the plot unique.

What a unique idea! At the end of the world, we have zombies! Along with a virgin sniper trapped in a tower, rope made out of zombie hair and some wicked rope bondage. Add that to witty one-lines and extremely well written characters – you have Tower in the woods by Tara Quan
At the beginning, there’s a scene in her POV and then the same scene in his POV. That
was the first hurtle with this book. It slowed down the entire pace and it was redundant. It hurt the book rather than helped. There was a puppy torture reference that I absolutely hated and I nearly put the book down for that single line. It was horribly disturbing and completely unnecessary. There’s also a major hop in the story. They have sex and then jump to a week later, which put a damper on the character’s connection.
Still, after those issues the book comes together quite nicely. The characters were well written and the story itself a solid read. I’ve never read anything that blended a fairytale with zombies. It was a really good idea, the plot was well fleshed out and there were no annoying slow spots. The pace was constantly even. The sex was smoking hot with some bondage. I enjoyed it and would like to read more from this author.
Zombies plus fairytale story plus a talented writer equals a book you must read!
