One of the guys, Roberta better known as Robbie has been over looked by Gary for years. Finally feed up, and broken hearted from her last relationship she drinks too much and makes a decision that will haunt her for months to come. I had a hard time enjoying Robbie. She seemed reckless to the point of being immature. It really took away from the romance for me. But I understood, that coming from her background, she was bound to have some rough edges. I would've liked to see more softness from her to balance things out.
Gary is by her side through everything, and battling with new feelings. The life or death situation has forced him to examine the way he really feels about Robbie. As she struggles to regain all her abilities he does his best to hold back his emotions. I loved watching Gary come to terms with his true feelings. His care, concern, and protective nature completely charmed me. I adored him from the beginning.
In the end, I believe the character's internal struggles overshadowed their romance. I wanted to experience more of their journey from best friends to two adults in love. A lot of time was spent on her accident and the recovery, but it was more superficial healing with a healthy dose of her mental battle. They fought more than they made up , and I wish it had been balanced out a bit better to round out the book.
