This is the story of Jennifer, a part-Native American, part “other” (turns out to be Selkie)
who discovers there’s a lot more to the world than simply the gifts she thought she inherited and had to hide from the world over the course of her life. When visiting her best friend, who recently married an international rock star, she meets the mysterious man named Gabriel, and is thrust into a world she never knew existed.
I have to say, once you pick your way through the excess material in this book (I think
this book could have been closer to a 4 star review if it had been condensed), the author has a great world she’s put together here for Jennifer and Gabriel to move through. Gabe and Jennifer hook up after some strife and difficulties, though for a time I wasn’t sure who she would end up with. Every single
man she crossed paths with in this book was incredibly hot. I thought there was going to be something between Raphael and Jennifer, but it turned out to be Gabriel. Poor Rafe. At least he gets his own book and love next!
Ms. Nelson’s got a different take on where vampires come from and I have to say I really liked the threat of the impending battle between the followers of Sekhmet and Set. If you’re interested in seeing a different take on vampires and "others” (including Selkies), I say take a chance on this book.
