I liked Alara’s strength, and unique skill set, I just wished we’d gotten a chance to see more of what lie beneath. At times she felt a bit two dimensional. As for the hero, or in my mind, anti-hero, Tyroz. I’m still torn. He had desirable qualities, power, attractiveness, and loyalty. But it took him so long to come around to Alara, it kind of soured me. If he had fewer flaws, or more time to make up for them, I would’ve enjoyed the story and him much more.
The passion between them boiled over, but their connection on a personal, none sexual level, lacked. It left you wondering why they went through such great lengths for one another. I felt like they needed a deeper bond to carry the story fully. Without giving away too much, I felt like there were great concepts that simply needed to be fully fleshed out.
