Fruit bat (yes, Fruit. Bat.) Bets wants a mate after having had no luck finding one within her own family (who are the more traditional type bats, with their sonar to see in the dark, etc.) so she heads off to the Crossroads, a Shifter-oriented hook-up place (I haven’t read any other books in the series, but it’s not necessary for this book to make sense and have fun). Weller, a fox-shifter, only got a brief glimpse of Bets the night before she left for the Crossroads, but it was enough to send his senses twitching and so when he finds out where she’s gone, he follows her in hopes of finding his mate.
There’s not really anything complicated to this plot. I enjoyed the fruit bat aspect of Bets, how she had to have fruit at every meal and how Ms. Masters explained how her animal form’s needs carried over into her human form (specific kinds of fruits to get the appropriate vitamins etc). Weller and Bets were great together and I liked how he and his family accepted her (once they got over the fact that she was a fruit bat). There was some great loving and a certain snarky sense of humor infused the entire novella.
Definitely worth reading and I happily can recommend this to others who like paranormal/shifter-type romances!
