Soldiers don't cry.
A fighter with the Universe Elite Force (UEF) Sion Knight has known battle and defeat. The loss of a former mission partner has her comrades talking behind her back; only her desperation to save her family has made her volunteer for a reconnaissance mission to Coris, a resort outpost that has gone dark after an attack. It won't be easy working alongside the mission commander Jordan Ryes either; a former lover who left Sion high and dry years ago but won't ever leave her memory. As they lead the team to Coris and battle both disease and alien attackers, Sion and Ryes sacrifice life and limb (literally) to complete the mission, save a planet and rediscover what love and commitment really means.
Deadmoon force has a strong premise, a moderate dosage of romance and plenty of action; maybe a little too much action. The endless battle descriptions leave little room for deeper plot or character development, but it's a soldier's story after all. The author's depictions of Coris, its attackers and the resulting 'blood and guts' are vivid and detailed, but at times the detail slows down the action with needless explanations. A plethora of repeated words and phrases also makes for tedious reading.
Overall, Dead Moon Force is a good read!
