Welcome to Kim Harrison’s paranormal world where charms can put you to sleep and demons can take the shape of your worst fear, oh yeah, and you can turn into minks to spy on your enemies.
This started off paranormal, witches, vampires, demons and a quarter of the way through we find out that it’s also sci fi/dystopian…genetically modified tomatoes cause ‘The Turn’. There is a lot of world building but it’s all sort of stuffed in a few pages and it’s hard to chew all at once. Inderlanders, FIB, I.S., the hollows, demons, living vampires, dead vampires. However, I love the characters. From the witch being hunted by her former employer (Rachel) to the living vampire trying to not attack said witch (Ivy) to a tough, adorable pixy man (Jenks) and a human … maybe (Nick). They all blend together and really pull me into the story. I am excited to see how this turns out. The ‘bad guys’ are many and there are several threads that a left unraveled at the end of the book. No cliff hanger but a good ending that’s meant to pull the reader in. It works. I picked up the next book The Good, The Bad and The Undead.
Dead Witch Walking is a promising start to a new paranormal series.
