I love how Deuce isn’t instantly successful with her ‘Company D’. She works hard to get help to defeat the freaks. The fights scenes are just as awesome as the other books. Their wild, intense and easy to follow. There are several deaths in here and yeah, it is totally sad but it makes the story feel more realistic. The pace is fantastic. There are short, sweet moments followed by long intense scenes and it really keeps the book moving. I had a hard time putting it down!
(SPOILER AHEAD) If the freaks are smart because they have that genetic memory thing and their lifespans are only about ten years, wouldn’t they have been smarter generations ago? This was a big point in the whole series and it seemed very…thin. Also I don’t understand why they went to Winterville to deal with the ‘inhabitants’? They’re not as smart as the muties/freaks so why not let them and the freaks/muties fight? It’ll reduce both enemy numbers. (SPOILER ENDS)
So there were some questions but they are far outweighed by how awesome Horde is. I love the twists, the unexpected help they receive. That final battle kept me glued to the pages. I couldn’t stop until I found out what happened to my favorite characters. There’s also some light, well done, romance.
Horde is another fantastic adventure in the Razorland Triology. Highly recommended!
