This one hit a wrong note for me, and I just never got over it. Sheikh Abu al Bari is smitten from the first time he lays eyes on the red haired engineer Jamie. He uses his money to persuade her boss to send her and a co-worker to his country to build a building. The secret he hid was his intention to hold Jamie there as part of his harem. Fascinated with her red hair, and viewing her as more of an item than a person, killed it for me. Even as we moved forward with the story, that basic feeling never seemed to change. The deception, manipulation, and talk about “Taming the American” didn’t sit well with me. Handsome, wealthy, and charming, he might have swayed a different kind of woman, but Jamie wasn’t one of them. She makes him work for respect. Wither he rises to the occasion, you’ll have to find out in the read.
Jamie is a determined spit fire. I loved her fierce spirit, intelligence and strength. She always spoke her mind, and came from a trying set of circumstances that made her success that much more impressive. I loved that she stood her ground, and stayed true to herself.
The push and pull between them makes for a non-stop battle of will, and emotions. While this wasn’t my cup of tea, If you’re looking for a fantasy come to life, this one might hit the spot.
