corrupting the prince he is trying to protect; the same prince who is both his brother and his charge.
This book is definitely not a stand-alone story; each book in this series picks up immediately after the previous one ends and there is little to no rehashing of previous events to remind the reader (or tell
one that has skipped a story) of what has gone before. Rak's past of sex slavery haunts him particularly badly in this installment while the true villains of the series are starting to be revealed (at least to the reader). Jisten fights against his feelings frequently due to his fear of causing harm to Rak, but that
just seems to make him a more interesting character. I think the writing has improved as the series continues and the world-building is well done. I really enjoy the various "creatures" that surround Rak and populate this world. The scene that gives this installment its title is particularly funny and adds light
and humor to an otherwise dark story.
(Be Warned: This is not a good story for anyone that cannot handle scenes of sexual abuse, for one of the villains uses Rak's past against him by blackmailing him and then tormenting him in exchange for freeing one of the palace slaves.)
