​Romy accepts an undercover mission four weeks before Christmas because she can use the extra pay. It causes yet another fight with her lazy husband who refuses to work and relies on her lone salary. Her marriage has been on rocky ground for a while, and she is unsure how to fix it.
When she meets Agent Soren Barlow, who is assigned to partner with her on the case, she isn’t prepared for what follows.

​“Right on time, as usual. Morning, Romy,” Director Jacobs greeted as she entered the conference room.

Before he began the briefing, she glanced at the other three agents who would also go undercover. She knew two of them, but one was new.

“Let me introduce Agent Soren Barlow. He transferred to us three weeks ago from the Seattle office and has already been undercover scoping out the mob’s territory.” Jacobs gestured at the new agent, indicating he should stand. “Soren, meet Agents Romy Opperman, Nate Swords, and Noah Finn.”

Soren was beyond handsome with dark brown eyes, an angular face framed by curly black hair, a clefted chin, a perfect nose, and sexy sculptured lips. He looked to be maybe in his early thirties. As he stood, his body unfolded tall. And built. His body-hugging long-sleeved shirt left nothing to the imagination, and neither did the tight jeans showcasing the bulge at his crotch. As she met his gaze, a weird thrill coursed through her, one she hadn’t felt for a very long time.

Hell, sex had become almost a dirty word in her marriage. When was the last time? During her pregnancy and after the baby’s birth, it was as if Zanek had become a eunuch. Even if she initiated it, he couldn’t get it up anymore, and he refused to see a doctor. If she didn’t have such a busy job, she’d be one frustrated wife.

Snapping her concentration back to the briefing, she listened to the director drone on. Most of what he was explaining wasn’t new to her since she already had collected a lot of the information he shared.

At the end of his chatter, the director said, “Romy, you’ll partner with Soren. The two of you will work the cartel’s branch here in New York while Nate and Noah go to Mexico. Now, all of you, go get your IDs, comms, and weapons. Good luck and try to stay in one piece. I’d like to see you at our annual Christmas party.”
