Isobel is the arsonist who runs into Nate’s alchemist shop. She’s hiding from the gang that owns her. Isobel wants freedom but after meeting Nate, she wants him. How could they possible have a happy ending when danger lurks around every corner? This is the third book in the whitfield files series. I absolutely LOVED the previous books. I mean, five star, must read, recommend them all the time, kind of love. Of Alchemist and Arsonists is another great addition. Belle is Isobel’s nickname. The blurb confused me a bit with the mention of Belle. I was a little unsure at why Nate is helping her. I understand hiding her at first but then to go search her out again with all the trouble she brings... He doesn’t know her so is it just because she’s beautiful? That said, they did have great chemistry. I really like Isobel. She is put in a terrible situation and she’s just trying to make the best of it. She’s a survivor and she doesn’t expect to suddenly care about something else like Nate. I also really like Nate. He’s generally a good guy who is trying to do the right thing but he’s in a situation he’s not sure how to handle. The romance is a slow, sizzling heat that is almost poetic. The details of old London are beautiful and that ending is so satisfying! This is a series that should be on your to be read list! Giveaway:

Michael lost his parents, his brother is missing and the creatures of the night just revealed themselves to him. Yeah, his world is definitely out of control. Add in the erotic dreams and they might as well commit him but what if all that is true…
The jump from a happy family to the tragedy gave me whiplash. I wish that had come together more smoothly. There was a lot of jumping that really pulled me out of the story. If that had been better knitted together, I think the story would have flowed better. That said, I liked Night’s Fall! Michael was dealing with the loss of his family, his missing brother and erotic dreams about a man that was definitely not a normal man. Once Michael was thrust into this paranormal world things got interesting. I liked the world building as well. What really showed through was Michael’s personality. I absolutely agreed with a lot of his reactions and found myself snorting at a few of them. It seemed very reasonable to think smoke under the door meant fire not paranormal creature paying a visit. I do hope this becomes a series, as suggested, because it was an entertaining story. I look forward to reading more from M.A. Church.

Mallory is right in the middle of a murder investigation and she’s determined to find the killer. It puts her and her family in the middle of danger but it also gets her closer to her former crush Alex. Honeysuckled Grove is in a lot of trouble but who will solve the mystery?

This collection of five stories written for those of us who are super-hero fans. Since I'm a huge Marvel fan girl, I enjoyed it. It's a collection of stories that imagines how the people who wear the masks really feel about each other.
The first story, Hero Sandwich, is super-hot! It rates a five because most of the story involves the BDSM taming of a used-to-be supervillain, whose father made her help him rob banks. Now she's gone straight but the two superhero brothers who catch her want to see how kinky she might be, under her mask. Phew! This story requires a cold shower after.
The second story, Voodoo, is a continuation of the first story. It's steamy. The second brother gets his HEA here but in a less forceful manner.
The third story, Taming Jack, has five chapters. This one involves alien critters who enter the minds/brains of humans and give them super-abilities, a common theme in sci-fi. The Jack in question wants to avenge his sister's death, and has neglected his woman because of his search for the killer. She wants to save him from going over to the dark side, because the alien in her brain warns her that he's headed that way. What can save him? Hint: he and his woman will have a really good time finding out!
The fourth story, Natasha and the Android, is a quick funny read. There are a few jokes about power tools.
The last story, Masks and Mistletoe, is another five chapter story involving BDSM in a huge way. It also has aliens in the super-heroe's brains. It poses the question, can she be a sub when she can bench-press a semi? If she's way more powerful than the man who wants to be her dom, can it work? Hint, it can.

When the colony began going dark she finds what exactly hunts people in a place called The Deep. As if that isn't bad enough, something starts happening the world above them. The walls tremble, ceilings cave in, the water runs red with blood. She had to escape! But will she get out with her mother and her crush alive? What happens when they get to the surface? No one has ever escaped the colony before but they didn't have claws ...
Yes!!!!!!! Okay, I know. You need more of a review that just that. This book was just so amazing. First of all, the world building. A prison colony underground is very cool. Through in Larkspur. She comes off as such a normal teenager, rolling her eyes, talking back to her mother, crushing on a boy and the backdrop was a prison. Underground. I loved the details. I felt like I could feel her fear and hear the crunch of dirt underfoot. There was a bit of horror with the mystery and I found the author did a fantastic job with each. I can't give too much away but I will say this book was a rollercoaster of awesome. Action, romance, horror, adventure, crying (yes, I did), and a slight love triangle. I really like the way this was done. It's softer and quickly resolved.
That ending! Holy crap! The fight scene at the end was insanely good. I was only edge of my seat, I could not stop reading. Then the twist with the end of the world, freaking loved it. I didn't see that coming. The finally chapters really had me glued to the seat. The bed, actually, I was in bed reading this until two am because I had to find out what happened. You have to read this book. It's so unique!
This is the third book I've read from this author and her writing just keeps getting better. I love that she writes stories that I've never read about before. They each have their own unique twist.

Axel is tired of living in his werewolf pack. Since he's an Omega male, he gets bullied constantly, and he never gets noticed by any females, who are too busy drooling over the alphas. He's afraid to live on his own, and well-aware that he's not supposed to mate with a human. But since he's never had any luck with females, he figures that won't be a problem he'll have to contend with. So he runs away from home and gets himself a job and a small efficiency apartment.
Cassie isn't very experienced with men, and Benjamin, the one male she had the most experience with, didn't want the son he got her pregnant with. In fact after she moved in with him at her request, Ben became mentally, and eventually physically abusive--to her and to their son. So she ran away from him and his money, to raise her baby in safety. But she fears that his money will find her, and he may try to take baby Ben away from her. So she doesn't trust anyone.
This was a very quick read. The bad guy was truly evil, and the werewolf turned out to have more humanity in him than the real human. There is only one sex scene, but it's descriptive. But the insta-love between Cassie and Axel didn't convince me that it was enough for her to not be afraid of the shifting that Axel is capable of doing. I guess with a short novella like this, things have to happen quickly. If you want a quick read, with a satisfying conclusion and a steamy sex scene with a virgin male, this is for you.

But she's missed too many holidays and birthdays with her husband, so when the head of a pharmaceuticals company is found murdered on the night when a presentation was being made to the board in a small town, she wants to solve it quickly so she can fly back home to celebrate her husband's promotion dinner.
Leo Hannah is a young lab-rat who works in technology for the company. He heads out for a smoke break and meets James, who is taking a breather from interviewing everyone in the company. Seems the videos recorded that night by the omnipresent cameras have gone missing. Leo makes a few seemingly casual remarks leading James to suspect that the guilty party is not the one that Lisa believes it should be pinned on. James is intrigued, but works to fight the allure of the good-looking young man.
Can they solve the crime before James succumbs to his growing attraction? Nope. And in the meantime, it starts to look like Leo might be the murderer. Which means that the Saturday night dinner he made for James, as well as the night they shared afterward, is now going to reflect poorly on James, since he was fraternizing with a suspect. I really liked how James tried to fight his desire for Leo. It was obvious to me, but not to him, that not only did Leo guess he's gay, but that Leo is also, and he's very attracted to the repressed agent who looks so good in a suit. Their relationship develops easily, if quickly, which is why James feels so conflicted when the spotlight shines on Leo as suspect number one. He starts to doubt his instincts, which makes him doubt himself.
Both men carry baggage into the relationship--Leo more so than James. But by the end of the story, you're rooting for them to be able to work things out, since they're so obviously good for each other.

Rafael de Almeida is very well aware that it's not his acting talents that have gotten him so far in life. He knows that it's his Latin good-looks, but he's not conceited about it. He's got his sights set on changing the direction of his career. He's still doing the fan-events for the two shows that made him famous all over the world, but they're not in production anymore. He wants to break into action movies on the big screen, and hopes to meet with a famous director while he's in London.
While taking a break from smiling at besotted fans, he sneaks out into the alley behind the venue to take a breather. Since Keeley finally got in and has been unable to locate the man whose startling good looks smiled at her from a cardboard image of him, she contacts her tech-support guy. He tells her the actor used to be a smoker and suggests she look outside. When she finds him, he immediately starts to flirt with her, which offends her, since she hates being underestimated as an agent due to being female. While they're bickering, someone takes a pot-shot at the actor. She takes charge, and the plot takes off from there. They're followed everywhere they go by someone determined that this will be Rafael's last Valentine's Day.
I liked both of these characters, but felt that there was too much stressing how little Rafael has allowed his international fame to corrupt him. He's gorgeous and has fans throwing themselves at him at all time. Since he was brought up poor, and now his fame supports many of his oldest friends along with his family, and he's a man from a very machismo-oriented part of the world, I would expect him to be just a tiny bit conceited. Instead he's always described as being down-to-earth. So there really is no conflict to his romancing of Keeley, other than that she doesn't believe him, since she's been hurt before, and he appears to be too good to be true. She suspects that he's just a natural flirt, which he is. But even after they have mind-blowing sex, she still tries to keep him at a distance. Despite her reservations, they manage to fall in love while keeping just ahead of the killer who is trying to end his life, for reasons not clear until the end of the book. At the end of the story, her gestures to impress him with her love seem a bit odd, considering how much she tried to resist his control over her. But their HEA is assured, now that she's stopped resisting his charm.

“MICHAEL!” ANDY waved as he shut his car door. “Hey, there. What’s up?”
“Not a lot.” Michael juggled his key as Andy bounced up to him. “Haven’t had a chance to go grocery shopping, so it looks like I’m eating out.”
“You know, once you settle in, why don’t we show you around?” Paul swung his arm around Andy’s shoulders. “We’ll take you to dinner too.”
“That sounds perfect.” Andy clapped enthusiastically. “Come on, say yes, Michael. It’ll be a blast.”
“Calm down, firecracker.” Paul squeezed Andy. “Let the man have a second to make up his mind.”
Michael barely swallowed his laugh. Andy had fiery red hair, and yeah, with what little he knew of Andy, he’d agree “firecracker” was an appropriate nickname. “I’d like that. Once I settle in, I’ll call you.”
“Sounds great,” Paul said.
Michael started his car and pulled out of the parking lot. He found a place that looked good and parked in the back. As he walked to the front door, the streetlight in the parking lot flickered, dimmed… and went out.
Oh-kay, that was strange. Suddenly uncomfortable, he glanced around, unable to shake the feeling of being watched. Shadows danced at the edges of the darkness, expanding outward, almost as if reaching for him. From the corner of his eye, he saw something fly past, moving too quickly to be distinguished. The hair on the back of his neck stood up.
He hurried toward the front door, his breath quickening. Once inside, Michael huffed a sigh of relief, then shook his head at himself. He wasn’t one to jump at shadows, but that was exactly what he was doing, and he couldn’t figure out why.
Michael took a moment to check out the surroundings. The first thing he noticed was the exposed brick and memorabilia on the walls… and the low lighting. The one time he would’ve preferred the place to be lit up like Madison Square Garden, what he got was subtle lighting and romantic ambience. Awesome.

The hostess led him to his table and left a menu. A few moments later, the waitress stopped by, and he placed his order. He passed the time playing on his phone and was watching a stupid cat video when the hair on the back of his neck stood up again.
Nonchalantly he glanced around the restaurant. A group of teenage girls sat at a nearby table, but they were more interested in talking to each other than staring at him. There were several couples in booths, but they weren’t paying any attention to him either.
Disgruntled, Michael looked back down at his phone as the spine-chilling sensation slowly dissipated. Where were those damn creepy feelings coming from? His mom would’ve said he had a possum walk across his grave.
Shit. Pain nailed him right between the eyes. When would he stop hurting so damn much?
His food arrived, and he ate, discreetly scanning the restaurant. His eyes were telling him there was nothing wrong, but the itch between his shoulder blades argued vehemently. The problem was, he couldn’t find the threat. All he had was a feeling something was not right.
Once he finished, he paid the bill and left. As he walked outside, he noticed the wind was picking up. Was there a storm on the way? He checked the weather app on his cell. Yup, looked like they had some bad weather coming. The light at the back of the parking lot was working now too. Of course it was.
Once he got home, he stripped, and with a groan, fell into bed. Pulling the sheet up to his chin, he snuggled down into the sheets. Just as he drifted off, he could’ve sworn the howling wind was calling his name.
NEXT THING Michael knew, he was wide-awake. He groaned, scrubbing his hands over his face. What woke him up? When he went to bed, he’d still been a bit freaked out over the odd happening at that restaurant. Was that what woke him up—leftover weird feelings?
And why was it so dark? He distinctly remembered leaving on the hall light—new place and all that. Still flat on his back, his gaze returned to the ceiling. It was really dark. And now that he was awake, he couldn’t miss how the wind shrieked outside.
Damn it. The electricity must be out, thanks to the wind. Getting up, he opened the curtains in the bedroom and peered out. The streetlights in the parking lot were on. Odd. He walked to the bedroom door and flipped the switch. Nothing happened. Great. He climbed back into bed and lay quietly, listening to see if he heard thunder. There didn’t seem to be any, so it didn’t appear to be storming.
He hunted around on the night table until he located his cell phone. Thank goodness he remembered to place it on the charger. He tapped the button on the bottom of his cell and it lit up, showing the time. Two in the morning. Seriously?
Disgusted, he tossed the phone on the night table. He rolled over onto his side and wrestled his pillow into a more comfortable position. Sighing softly, he closed his eyes and tried to will himself back to sleep. A cool breeze ruffled his hair, and he wrinkled his nose. Maybe he shouldn’t have turned the air conditioner down so low, but the humidity here in the South was killing him.
He shivered and reached for the bedspread. Where was the damn thing? Jeez, was nothing going right? Since feeling around wasn’t working, he opened his eyes… and was greeted with a rolling mist coming from underneath the bedroom door.
A mist. Coming in under the door.
Michael blinked.
Then he blinked again.
When the mist didn’t dissipate, he began to worry. Before he could throw the sheet off him, the mist began to condense at the end of the bed.
“Not a lot.” Michael juggled his key as Andy bounced up to him. “Haven’t had a chance to go grocery shopping, so it looks like I’m eating out.”
“You know, once you settle in, why don’t we show you around?” Paul swung his arm around Andy’s shoulders. “We’ll take you to dinner too.”
“That sounds perfect.” Andy clapped enthusiastically. “Come on, say yes, Michael. It’ll be a blast.”
“Calm down, firecracker.” Paul squeezed Andy. “Let the man have a second to make up his mind.”
Michael barely swallowed his laugh. Andy had fiery red hair, and yeah, with what little he knew of Andy, he’d agree “firecracker” was an appropriate nickname. “I’d like that. Once I settle in, I’ll call you.”
“Sounds great,” Paul said.
Michael started his car and pulled out of the parking lot. He found a place that looked good and parked in the back. As he walked to the front door, the streetlight in the parking lot flickered, dimmed… and went out.
Oh-kay, that was strange. Suddenly uncomfortable, he glanced around, unable to shake the feeling of being watched. Shadows danced at the edges of the darkness, expanding outward, almost as if reaching for him. From the corner of his eye, he saw something fly past, moving too quickly to be distinguished. The hair on the back of his neck stood up.
He hurried toward the front door, his breath quickening. Once inside, Michael huffed a sigh of relief, then shook his head at himself. He wasn’t one to jump at shadows, but that was exactly what he was doing, and he couldn’t figure out why.
Michael took a moment to check out the surroundings. The first thing he noticed was the exposed brick and memorabilia on the walls… and the low lighting. The one time he would’ve preferred the place to be lit up like Madison Square Garden, what he got was subtle lighting and romantic ambience. Awesome.

Grif is in charge of a team of thieves who go after bad companies. Dan is the CEO of their next mark but he may not know how corrupt the company is. This should have gone as planned but the attraction between them is too hot to resist.
Yes! This is a fantastic suspense. It almost reminds me of an episode of Leverage. Grif and Dan are now in the same danger. As Grif tries to take down the company, he’s also falling hard for Dan. Dan knows there’s something wrong but he can’t figure out what. When he meets Grif the attraction is instant. This is the perfect read for my mood. It’s a romantic suspense with great action and great romance. As the heist/investigation plays out, I really found myself on the edge of my seat. That ending is so satisfying!
If you like romantic suspense then Midnight Heist should be at the top of your TBR list.
