Robyn is a curator of historical artifacts. Somewhere along the line she met and married Maxim Vallois. He is a vampire who hunts vampires who are still old-fashioned enough to kill humans. Maxim's job is often dangerous, so he doesn't usually tell Robyn much about it. Centuries ago, the fae, the werewolves and the vampires decided to appear to humans as themselves, and attempt to coexist with them. A huge part of that was that they needed to police their own, so that humans aren't considered "food" anymore. Of course there are humans who still want to hunt and kill paranormals. In fact, Maxim had an affair with a British woman who came from a family of hunters. When she was injured, she chose to die rather than allow him to bring her into eternal life as a vampire. But their child, a dhampire (half-human, half-vampire) named Heath, still lives with Maxim. In fact, he's part of the comedy relief, since he refers to his father as "the old bat."
The plot of this story involves a mummy being delivered to the office where Robyn spends her days cataloging and displaying the artifacts that Maxim has bought over the years. When she finds the mummy in a big box, she's intrigued by the oddities surrounding it. Robyn seeks to have it examined by experts which is of course, a huge mistake, since it's a vampire mummy, who is totally upset that he's been forced to endure the centuries living only in his own mind, thirsting for revenge. He recognizes Robyn as a "shaman," which is never mentioned by anyone else, so I suspect that will be part of the story in future books in the series. When I was done with this book I was smiling. Then I realized that I've done that each time I've read one of Alexa Piper's books. The word that sprang to my mind was "frothy" but now I realize that her writing style is like that of the old romantic comedy movies that used to star Cary Grant. The hero is undeniably sexy, but he's also urbane and suave. He's smooth as silk, and he adores his chosen female to distraction. The heroines are smart and independent, while head-over-heels in love with their man whatever species he happens to belong to. The stories are fun to read because of the easy relationship between the characters, and how much they enjoy each other. That makes me enjoy reading about them. Charlotte (Charlie) Bisset was born to a witch family, but has no magical power at all. She's a sexy librarian who has not just one, but two devoted men. I use "men" loosely, since Dr. Hugo is a centuries-old vampire, and Laurette is Elven royalty with untold power. He's also a devoted baker who takes up knitting in this book. Charlie has been to Hell and back, literally, (Elvenswood Tales 2) with Laurette, and she's still enthralled with the knowledge that both of these sexy guys love only her--well, she's their only female lover.
Seems that Dr. Hugo and Laurette have been besties for many years, but their relationship was never physical until Charlie came into the picture. Now she's got her reverse harem to enjoy, and when she's not available or the mood strikes them, (which is often--these folks are mighty lusty!) the two guys will eagerly pleasure each other. The plot of this book, the third in the series, involves unnatural vermin attacks in Elvenswood. Seems there is a protective spell woven on the museum at the center of town, which was built and maintained by the earliest elves to live there, to show their devotion to their human lovers. When evil bunnies start chomping on innocent folks, then rats, frogs, and chickens get into the act, Laurette is determined to get to the bottom of this, because it's upsetting Charlie--and that can't be allowed. It's also spring, and Dr. Hugo wants to go on the yearly Easter Egg Hunt run by the local witches. Please, ignore the cover of this book. It doesn't begin to capture the fun of reading these stories! Even the supporting characters are well-drawn--a couple just for comedy relief. The plots are secondary to the relationship between the folks in this triad. Hugo isn't possessive, but Laurette is--of both of his lovers--whom he dresses in his royal house colors when they go to the hunt, so everyone will know they both belong to him. I thought he was overbearing when I first started reading these books. But he's the perfect foil for Charlie and Hugo, who need to be reminded that human concerns are not all they should be involved with. And no review can be complete without mentioning the smokin' hot sex scenes! These three are lusty to the max, and hot for each other--which manifests itself in frequent steamy encounters that will convince you that maybe, just maybe, it really IS possible for a triad to be successful. Now where can I find me a vampire and elf to make MY dreams come true? Life is boring for Cora until she takes a job at a PI’s office. Now she learns about the paranormal and that a certain vampire is interested in making her his.
This was an interesting paranormal romance. Cora was thrust into the paranormal world to sink or swim. She finds Valerian sexy but he’s a vampire. What’s a girl supposed to do? There was a great pace to the book between the romance and the action. The excerpts in the book are a bit disorienting. Add in some werewolves, danger and mind blowing sex with a vampire … you have A Taste of Magic. There was a dose of humor that I found very entertaining. Overall, I really enjoyed A taste of Magic and it definitely deserve it’s four shiny stars! Fian needs a date for a demon wedding. Kiara needs to change her disappointing life. Add in some witches and fish demons … what could go wrong?
Okay, that cover. Noooo. I don’t like it at all. That said, the blurb really caught my attention! I’ve read a few tentacle romance books and find them entertaining. The beginning is very slow moving and really didn’t capture my attention. Once Kiara is introduced the story picks up. I really like her. She has spunk and a great personality. Her attitude is everything! But she’s so unhappy with her life and her cheating ex. When she meets Fian, her world is turned completely upside down. I like their chemistry. From the very beginning the heat rolled off them in waves but by the second chapter they are having sex so that is just too fast to build up a relationship. The whole accepting tentacles is way too quick as well. I wish that romance had been explored slower. I really like the world building. Witches and demons are a favorite of mine. They are in a dream world with all different kinds of demons, including shark demons and blowfish. That’s a unique concept. I like the twists and issues with Nick. He gets what he deserves. The ending is a satisfying happy for now that looks to be a happily ever after. Laurette is the head elf of New Elvenswood. He's in love with both his longtime friend Hugo, a vampire, and the human woman Charlie, who is a non-witch born to a family of witches. As Valentine's Day approaches, Laurette is determined to use all of his wiles, which includes the baking that he's known for (and lives to do, especially when he's stressing as he is now), to convince both of his lovers to permanently move in with him. Charlie, born Charlotte, is a research assistant at a college in a town near New Elvenswood. She enjoys her job, sharing her office with Corvin, another assistant. She's rejected his oblique overtures for years, but he's desperate now that she tells him she's involved with someone--who can't possibly love her as much as he does. Dr. Hugo is a vampire, but also a medical doctor who spends his time saving humans, when he's not feeding from patients with a disease that makes them need to give blood regularly (This disease actually exists. I've read about it.) He and Laurette were besties for a while, before Charlie came into their lives. She's the catalyst that allowed them to express their feelings not just for her, but for each other. But so far, both he and Charlie have refused to give up their jobs and their homes--even though they're both very much in love with Laurette and each other.
This was the second book in a series, which means that at the start, I was thrown off by not knowing who anyone was, and how they relate to each other. Having the book start off (and end) with a fictional "letter" from a muse was very confusing as were the two chapters of a romance book that Charlie is writing, which were both tossed in at random times in the story. And there was one character who has a few names, which means it took me a while to know that "Dinner" and "Fogberry" were the same Fae and why they're both his names. After I got the hang of who was who, and enough details from their interactions with each other to know what the plot in the first book was about, I got into the story. There are nutty characters, humorous interludes, and mixed in are steamy sex scenes. There's a visit to Hell, which proves to be a lot of fun for Charlie and Laurette, him being an old friend of one of the rulers there. Toss in Cupid and she starts shooting love arrows around town but everything turns out great in the end. Even though he hasn't convinced his two lovers to move in with him, Laurette knows beyond a doubt that their love was strong, and would survive. Arrow Struck is a highly recommended read!
While Fian discovers humans come in more flavors than he had thought, jealous witches close in on Fian and Kiara. Will the coder and the demon be able to find love despite the wicked magic? And are tentacles still amazing outside of dreams? Sneak PeekFian looked out over the sparkling ocean that sat like a bowl of diamonds beyond the shores of the Morpheus-Realm. In his human form, he heard the waves come crashing in and recede like an eternal, rhythmic drumbeat. Fian reached for a smooth teal rock the surf had dragged in and tossed it toward the lapping water. It fell short. “Fuck it,” Fian said. He could feel the anger shift his skin color from normal human to blues and greens. “I’ve had enough of that pompous ass.” The pompous ass in question was Fian’s brother, just as demonic as Fian, but much prettier with his shark skin and sleep-deep mako eyes. They had met two hours earlier at the carnival, upon Mikano’s request. Fian had assumed it had something to do with the Human Liaison Unit Mikano was a member of, a band of singularly skilled demons who helped other demons with measured demonic behavior so that humans could continue to believe the demons of the Morpheus-Realm were, in fact, just things that popped up in their dreams. In the Morpheus-Realm, the rules of physics and reason were somewhat malleable, though Mikano could have explained the metaphysics perfectly, could have even given a mathematical example. The carnival was bright with colorful balloons and demons that could shape their limbs like stretchy dough. One could hop into a large soap bubble and find themself drifting over the spectacle until it broke and cotton candy -- brightly pink and sticking sweetly to one’s skin -- broke one’s fall. Eel demons drew electric sparks from their bodies and formed them into animals that walked or flew or breathed fire. A jellyfish demon read the dreamers’ palms and told their fortunes while her hair remained shifted to the ephemeral and luminous veil of her demonic jellyfish self. Fian and Mikano had opted for the Ferris wheel rather than sharing a soap bubble. It was always entertaining to watch dreamers squeal when the bubbles broke, and the Ferris wheel offered a clear line of sight. Mikano was munching away on a bucket of caramel popcorn. “So what did you want to talk about?” Fian knew Mikano was smug in the way only older demon brothers can be, but he’d looked especially smug today. “Well, Tickle --” Fian had flinched at the childhood nickname. “-- I am in love.” As it had turned out, his sharp-toothed brother had found a human -- a surfer of all things -- for whom Mikano had fallen, fins over teeth. Fian had no explicit intel on the surfer’s feelings, but since Fian had been roped in as Mikano’s best man for a kitschy beachside wedding, he supposed there was at least exasperated defeat there. Nightmares knew exasperated defeat was Fian’s default when it came to feelings about Mikano. Fian, thinking over the meeting on the Ferris wheel while the ocean in front of him looked calm as ever, reached for another rock, deep vermilion and blood warm. His agitation made his hand shift and the suckers of his kraken nature appear there. The rock tasted of salt and darkness. He tossed it, but he couldn’t quite detach his suckers in time, and the rock just slammed into the surf-wet beach, a half a tentacle length short of the teal one. “Fuck it,” he told the rock. “I need a plus one.” GiveawayTO ENTER YOU MUST COMMENT BELOW: What did you like about the sneak peek? The handsome vampire, the human and the sexy elf have to save Christmas in this paranormal world…
The beginning is a little confusing. We’re reading the writing of the character the author is writing. The story is continued as she writes it through the story which I wound up really enjoying. It is like two stories in one. Charlie/Charlotte is heading home for Christmas even though she really doesn’t want to. She hates dresses but opts to wear one. I know exactly how she feels. Now, the scenes are very jumpy, the pace is also slow moving and the editing is rough. I did receive an ARC copy so perhaps that’s the reason? I’m not going to take off any stars for that. That said, the story plays out that she’s going on a date with a handsome doctor but there’s nothing average about this world. Witches, elves and vampires live here too. That puts a nice spin on things. Now the vampire, the human and the elf have to save Christmas. That includes a heavy attraction between all three. There’s a lot of steam toward the end of the book with a m/m/f scene that I really enjoyed.
If you like holiday themed books then Holiday Magic would definitely tickle your fancy.

Gordon is a vampire medical examiner (cool!) and Orrin is a werewolf detective (also cool!). They are thrust together to investigate gruesome murders popping up. As the body count rises so do the bulges in their pants. Can murder get in the way of romance?
That cover! Yikes. I would have passed on this book if my choice is based on the cover which would have been such a shame! The Hunting Mates is a good book! I really like Gordon. His personality is fantastic. From how he talks to the dead to his awkwardness with wolves. Orrin is also equally liked. He seems like a good detective who’s determined to get answers. Their romance is nice but I didn’t feel that connection between them. I think that has to do with the sex scenes though. They read very technical rather than emotional. Again, there’s an issue with jumpy scene changes. The mystery is great. I like how the suspense really kept me on the edge of my seat. Gordon and Orrin are in the thick of danger as the story comes to a thrilling ending.
This is the third book in the Dusk and Dawn series. It’s been an entertaining journey so far!

Robyn is working for a vampire and that vampire wants to make her his. How can she keep things professional when he’s sex on two legs?
Robyn was awesome. I loved her personality and her attitude. Maxim is more than just your average vampire. He’s got a life, feelings, family and his fangs dying to sink into Robyn. Their romance was great! Lots of heat and lots of humor. Heath was a great character. I loved his interactions with Robyn and Maxim. It was very jumpy with the constant point of view changes though, which was my only complaint. There was good action and good romance. I really enjoyed The Hunter’s Bride. I’m excited to read more from this author!
