Brendan Wheeler is taken captive for five days before he manages to break free. He comes away with not only emotional scars but a tattoo on his back that paints a picture of a horrible murder. Jeremy Reed offers a safe place and comfort while they search out the mystery of who is doing this.

I loved how different this book was. You have the captivating idea of the tattoo on the back and the fact that the authors didn’t stick to stereo-types on the characters at all. Brendan might be the cop but he was not the dominate in the relationship at all but he is still all man.  Jeremy is an African American veterinarian with a take charge attitude. There were no twinks in this story. The pace was really well written in how it kept up with the mystery but the romance evolved nice and gradual. There was no instant love but you could easily feel them falling in love. Actually my only complaint was the who-dun-it. That could have been written better, reached a little bit further. It felt kind of thrown together but the romance was good enough that it covered for it.

I’m hoping we will revisit these characters and get more of their happily ever after.

NEVA JONES IS ON A QUEST

But she's not quite sure what she's questing for. A crow told her to take off all the iron she was wearing, a stag told her to get a lock of pale hair and a lock of dark, and an owl told her to jump into a lake.

Neva is a businesswoman in the New South, not a character in some fairy tale -- but she'll take on this quest if it means no longer feeling like she's going insane.  So she dives right into the lake and into a crazy dream-world where nothing makes sense, giants speak in riddles, surfers throw tea parties, and there's ocean as far as the eye can see.

One thing seems certain: the hottie she met on a business trip in Wales is here, and needs
to be saved from living the cycle of a curse over and over. Neva's saved herself plenty during her thirty-one years; she figures she can save a dark-haired, blue-eyed Welshman by solving a bunch of riddles. And then, if this really is a fairy tale, they'll be together forever.

I first saw this paperback on the shelf. The cover caught my attention. I read the blurb but was undecided. Of course, by the time I went to pick it up another woman grabbed it and that was the last copy. Two stores later, I finally had it in my hands. This sounded so interesting and unique.

I'm sorry to say I went to all that trouble for nothing. It's not bad but very slow moving. The main character is Neva whom I personally didn't like. She was very one-dimensional. There was no depth, if something didn't seem right she never really questioned it. If her first experience at The Serpent’s Kiss was odd why return? And if a man followed you from Wales to Alabama, I’d be seriously concerned no matter how handsome he was! Then there's March. He was just a good looking young man with an air of old wisdom. He never leaped off the page. His character was just there.

The entire story just went on. There was no real grabbing of my attention.

I read several chapters in and forced myself to go a little further with the hopes my search for this book was not in vain. Then I took my bookmark out and started something else. I just could not get into it. The scenery was great and the magical odd but believable. It's the characters that made me not care about their ending.

Maybe you'll like it better...

When Luke visits Florence he hopes it will be the start of a new chapter in his life. A chance meeting with a tall, handsome waiter and that chapter starts far sooner than he could ever have imagined.

Lorenzo is everything Luke has been looking for. Hot, sexy and uninhibited, he pushes buttons Luke never knew existed. But Luke lives in England, Lorenzo in Florence, and the time soon comes for them to part... Can this holiday fling become more than just sex? Can it, in fact, turn into a magnificent romance?

Be Warned: m/m sex, multiple partners, public exhibition.

Luke is in need of a vacation and there is just no place like Italy. While there he runs into Lorenzo and passion ignites. Can a relationship meant only to last a week be worth risking more for? Can a week tell you if your meant to spend the rest of your life with someone. Luke and Lorenzo must decided if they are willing to find out.

The plot was cute and I loved the amount of details put into the book. I found myself literally sucked into Italy. I could see it, feel it, and taste it. I was completely and utterly there. It was a steady, easy read, that for the most part was an enjoyable read.

However what I didn’t enjoy were the characters. They were well written, that wasn’t the problem. The problem was that they just aren’t likable characters. Luke comes off as very whiney. At the start of the book he is complaining non-stop about his job, however that same job affords him a nice house and vacations to Italy. Lorenzo was a little more likable though he is very much the quintessential play boy.

Despite my personal feelings of the characters I have to recommend this simply because the details are that good. When you fall into a book and feel as though your watching it rather than reading it, well that’s top notch writing and deserves the credit.

Excerpt

Bar Uccello identified itself among the cheap snack bars, computer stores and Chinese herbalists by a simple rainbow flag that hung over the dusty, iron grille as limp and useless as a used condom. Even without the flag it would have been hard to miss; the music paid no attention to locked doors and the overflowing dumpsters in the street vibrated to the
rhythm.

Lorenzo pressed the button on the entry phone, looked into the camera, and the grille sprang open with a raw clack. Luke followed him through the security doors and into a dimly lit passage decorated with adverts for hard core videos. He recognized most of the cocks on them. The noise was deafening and Luke could only watch as Lorenzo leaned over the counter
and shouted into the ear of the receptionist. They gesticulated at each other, then at Luke, then at the ceiling. Finally, the receptionist shrugged his shoulders and Lorenzo pulled Luke along the passageway and into the bar. It heaved with bodies. Many of the guys had discarded their shirts and Luke narrowed his eyes against the flashing lights trying to get a good look. Lorenzo pulled him close and shouted in his ear,“It’s full because of the strip show
later on.” He jerked his head towards the bar. “Shall we?”

Luke nodded and followed closely as Lorenzo ploughed through the throng, stopping regularly to receive a hug or a kiss from fellow revelers. His popularity was obvious and Luke knew that if anything passed between them it could only be a one night stand or, at most, a seven
night, vacation fling.

As the bar came into sight, Luke surged forward and grabbed Lorenzo by the arm. “I’ll get
these.”

Lorenzo shook his head. He already had the attention of one of the barmen. Luke knew Italians well enough to realize any protest was futile, so he accepted his Diet Coke with grace. Lorenzo began to dance to the music, grinding his hips. He grinned at Luke. That wink again.

Luke was drawn to him like a mosquito to a lamp. He finished his coke, rid himself of the glass and raised his arms over his head. He rotated his hips, thrusting forward the growing mound at his crotch. Lorenzo’s eyes glowed; his shirt, already damp from the heat and the
exertion, taut across hard nipples. When their eyes met, Luke opened his mouth and ran his tongue over his lips. Lorenzo took the bait. His tongue darted between Luke’s lips and filled his mouth. Luke lowered his arms, put one around Lorenzo’s neck to pull him tighter, and let the other work its way down to his ass. At last, he felt those firm buttocks that he’d watched so many times during the evening. In his mind he parted them to reveal Lorenzo’s rosebud. He pushed his hard cock against Lorenzo, wishing it were free. Lorenzo responded, and Luke
felt the other’s solid length press into his own.

A sudden flash of light, a ripple of applause and the music died. Luke glanced around, nonplussed, but Lorenzo shouted in his ear, “It’s the show. The strippers. Come with me.”

It's Christmas time in this sequel to "The Zebra Wore Fishnets," and Belle is excited to be sharing it with her lovers, Kevin and Aden. It's their first Christmas together, and she wants
everything to be perfect--the sort of special holiday she never had before. Aden has the same goal in mind, and convinces Belle that Kevin's perfect Christmas gift would be the chance to paint her portrait. But while the holiday starts out very promising, it's soon interrupted by unwelcome guests, past issues, and future problems.

This is a sequel to The Zebra Wore Fishnets, six months after the threesome began. It’s their first Christmas together, a time of celebrating and stress. Christmas is a time when present and past collide. The outcome is what will decide the future.

I begged for this book on my knees, there are red marks to prove it. I am so glad that I did, not disappointed at all. Once again Pepper Espinoza proves what an amazing author she is. Everything just seemed to fall together from plot, execution, character draw, character chemistry, pace to visual details. This story is short but if anything I loved it more than the first.

It’s not a stand alone that can be read separately but there is such a deeper look at the
emotions of the characters this time around. It was very satisfying. I went from not knowing if I even liked the characters to being completely in love with them. The author wrote this out so well because it became about showing that they are meant to be together, that they are all better people because of each other. This wasn’t the actual plot but more like a movement going on in the backdrop that slowly seduced.

Belle has matured and is coming more into herself which is solely because of Kevin and Aden. We get a closer look into Kevin’s emotions that we hadn’t previously seen and it helped to not only answer question that were left over from The Zebra Wore Fishnets but to really draw everything in.

However, the look into Aden’s past has only added more questions. The passion between the three knocked my socks off among other things. The sex scenes just scorched the pages. I can honestly say that this time around my only frustration is I’ll have to try to wait patiently for another book in this series.

With a blurb like this who could resist?!

Market day has finally arrived for Nakedella, the reason for her name, read the beginning and prepare to grin. There’s a  butcher who likes knife play, the baker who likes to kneed more than dough and gives bread an extra touch. I will never look at bread quite the same way. Then there’s the Gingerbread man with an icing cock, Ha! Nakedella visits the kinky candlestick maker. Of course, after that it’s to  Red Riding’s Grandmothers house! Oh my God, Pinocchio - Who knew the wooden man was a masturbator. A golden dildo that acts as an alarm clock, need I say more?

I can’t tell you how funny and sexy this is at the same time. . Then there’s the rough and banned from town for bruising her, humpty dumpty. I’ve never heard of a water creature called Sprite. Whoever she is, apparently she craves semen. Go figure. Who knew Grandmother and the wolf would live happily ever after. There is much more in this book that will really keep you tuned. I will say my favorite character is Henry the invisible shape shifter. Something about him made me squirm in my seat.

I don’t know if I should be turned on or laughing, maybe both, okay I'm both. This is completely entertaining. It’s light and quick, well written but for the lack of details. There was definitely a lack in most details and that made the story feel very rushed. This really should have gotten 4 stars because it absolutely needed details. I have no idea what most of the surrounding and characters look like. As you can see I gave it a 5. It was just so damn entertaining.

Review: Breeding Stock by Melissa Harlow

Futuristic - novel
TBR reviewer: B.H.

Blurb

Breeding Stock is Melissa Harlow's most controversial novel so far. It tells the story of a colony of survivors after a virus wipes out most of the population, and 'Drea Zelleck wants to make it back home to find the first and only man she ever loved, Jackson Burgess. Jackson is
alive, but his life has changed since 'Drea left. Once a farmer, he now runs a colony of survivors where the women are kept in cells as breeding stock, in the hopes of repopulating. Kidnapped from a bus by Jackson's second in command, 'Drea finds herself unexpectedly attracted to the sexually controlling and demanding Bennett. Taken at gunpoint to the colony, she learns that she is expected to be 'bred" to each of the men there. Jackson is still in love with the girl who grew up next door, but the willful, defiant woman she's become responds with such submission to Bennett's commanding ways that Jackson finds he doesn't mind sharing her with him. Now the question is, can he and Bennett keep her from the rest of the colony, or is 'Drea destined to be colony breeding stock?

Review

Picture
Handcuff free zone: This has sex but nothing steamy.
It was all about the blurb. I love virus or apocalypse survivor stories. They always intrigue me. This is about a virus wiping out most of the population. ‘Drea is a survivor and she’s trying to get to the man she used to love Jackson. Along the way she’s kidnapped and finds out Jackson is in charge of a colony where woman are used as breeding stock. Will she change the ways of Jackson or does his second in command, Bennett, now occupy her heart?

The beginning is a little slow. I should also mention I hated Jackson. Really hated to the point where I didn’t understand how later in the story she would go looking for him. I felt for ‘Drea after Jackson took her virginity and acted like such a bastard. Even when we switched to his POV and we find out why he was an ass...I still wanted to hack his dick off for ‘Drea. I give kudos to the author for really pulling the read in. She did an amazing job with the characters.

In Chapter Three, when this virus is unfolding...Oh my God...gave me goose bumps. I could not stop reading; it was like a have-to-find-out-what-happens trance! I find it horrific about The Colony. What exactly could survivors do to help repopulate? It’s a scary set of thoughts that Breeding Stock seems to bring up.

This is really well written and interesting but this is NOT erotica. It’s cruel and not at all sexy. I could easily see a perverted man writing this with a malicious grin. I’ve read books with bdsm and voyeurism as well as forced role-play. I found the sex scenes in Breeding Stock revolting and my hatred of the men simply grew. I really wanted ‘Drea to go on a killing spree and eventually blow up the entire colony. Maybe ride off with a smile and a lit cigarette as she hears the men scream as they burn alive. As more sex scenes passed the more sick I felt. I was very ready to skip those scenes as they were more like rape scenes and call this a Did Not Finish.

Of course, there was still that little hope that maybe ‘Drea would get even.

How could ‘Drea possibly love Jackson and Bennett? After reading this entire novel I still don’t understand how, the author was way off base. She just threw in a 'happy' ending. The only reason this isn’t getting a one star is because the author can write really well. She pulled a lot of emotion from me while reading this but not good ones. I have the second in this series in my review folder. The plot for that sounds a little less...nauseous. I’m rather nervous about giving it a try but I will.

After a patient tragically dies while under his care, mobile trauma nurse Tanner withdraws into himself. No longer working out in the field, he’s stuck on the midnight shift at St. Anthony’s Hospital and with each passing day, he sinks deeper into depression.

Ricky loves his job as a radiology tech. While he enjoys working with patients, the highlight of his day used to be when Tanner would bring a patient into the hospital. Although the nurse’s flirting was sometimes over the top, Ricky found himself growing attracted to the man. So
when he learns that Tanner has taken a full-time job at the hospital, Ricky is excited…until he realizes that Tanner is a shell of the man he used to be. Ricky vows that no matter what he has to do, he will bring Tanner out of his depression. Will Ricky be able to make Tanner want to embrace life again? Or will Ricky lose the nurse to his own inner demons?

Review

Picture
While Ricky has had diabetes for awhile now, he hasn’t figured out the finer points of taking care of himself. Tanner wants to be the one Ricky depends on but he is barely able to take care of himself after one of his patients dies. Will they be able to learn to take care of each other or will both their problems overwhelm them?

This was a sweet, easy read with amazing characters. Ricky is an adorable dork that has a tendency of rambling and occasionally putting his foot in his mouth. He is completely devoted to his family which including himself is eight siblings. Watching the dynamic between them all was a blast. Tanner is pretty laid back, taking everything in stride, when it comes to other's that is. When it comes to himself though, he has a tendency of over analyzing. Ben is Ricky’s
room-mate, best friend, and mother hen. He added a lot of humor to the story and I’m hopeful that we’ll be reading about him next, if the foreshadowing is anything to go by than we will. The connection between Tanner and Ricky is done very well.

What isn’t done well is the angst of the story. Everything was pacing along steadily and I was completely feeling the story until close to the end when the drama begins to unfold. It felt rather rushed, with no actual resolve to the problems. It was literally blink your eyes and you miss it. Despite this though, I still liked the story and I think most readers will.

Review

Picture
Picture
The beginning didn’t grab me the way a Barrett novel usually does. It starts off rather slow but by chapter three I was being pulled into Ms. Barrett’s world. Kepp, Wat and Red are three gorgeous bad ass men that have a great connection. You can instantly tell they’ve been through a lot of trouble together and survived bonded. Kepp and his best men are hired to
‘protect’ the wife of a very powerful politician. Turns out Lira is not his wife, she’s being held like a prisoner. Should she resist her sister is harmed. We also learn that this powerful bastard beats her for refusing him. Now, I want to see him pay.

The four of them met and had sex, it wasn’t instant love but instant intercourse. I think she needed to better cement the feeling between the four before diving right into the lust. that said, those scenes were raw with sensuality. So hot and unique. They made my toes positively curl. The only reason this insta-sex isn’t hurting the rating is because of the scene afterward. Ms. Barrett does a great job with it. The characters learn that they’re the 3 consorts to the princess. Our sweet and sexy Lira tricked them. This is just one surprize that the group must deal with.

Granted some twist were obvious. There were some run-on sentences that really stuck
out. Still, the ending was sweet and satisfying. This was a quick read that had romance and sensuality bursting out of the pages.

Excerpt

Lira realized she must have fallen asleep because she opened her eyes to find Red and Wat holding her upright while Tanner, wet and steaming, knelt on a cushion at the side of the pool. As she watched, he turned to reach for a pile of towels. His erection jutted towards her, tempting her. Before she could stop herself, she leaned over and licked him, running her tongue over his length from root to tip. His resulting groan set her alight. The man was silk over steel, and she wanted to take all of him into her mouth, but he was too big. She circled the sensitive, swollen head with her tongue, running her dripping fingers up and down his hard shaft. The man tasted of the sea, salty, tangy, pure, and clean. Lira wrapped her lips around him and took him in. She sucked, and Tanner responded by twisting his hands in her wet hair, holding her in place, moving his hips forward and back, careful to push his cock only as far into her mouth as she could manage.

Someone’s fingers threaded their way through her pussy, seeking her clit, while another
finger thrust inside her. A mouth tugged on each nipple, one man rolling the swollen tip with his tongue, the other biting just hard enough to make her squeak.

As Lira’s arousal increased, she found she could take Tanner deeper. She wanted him as far
as she could get him. She relished the press of her lips around him, the hard feel of him on her tongue, the man-taste of him. Wat and Red continued to stroke her inside and out, playing with her clit and her nipples until she came, her muscles contracting around their fingers. Tanner’s cock filled her mouth so that she could barely make a sound.

Before her orgasm even ended, he lifted her from the pool and tugged her towards his lap.
The man impaled her upon his body, inch by glorious inch. Lira wriggled against him in ecstasy as he rode her through the last of her climax.

“We’ve discussed it, sweetheart,” he said, his voice languid, as if he’d been drugged by the powerful aroma of sex in the warm, wet air. “We accept your offer. All three at once. Your pussy is mine.” And as if to make his point, he slid a fingertip inside her along with his thick cock. “Wat gets your luscious mouth and Red, your sweet ass. Do you have any objections?”

Straddling him, Lira could only nod her head. What was there to object to? It was as if
they’d read her mind. She’d imagined them taking possession of her in the exact positions they had agreed upon. But she was afraid. The three men were so big, so virile. A trained male courtesan had prepared her for this act of joining so she would feel pleasure and not pain, but, by law, he had been allowed access to only one part of her body, the place Tanner now occupied. The thought of all three men at once intimidated her. Lira began to tremble.

Before she could protest, Wat had tossed Red a bottle of sweet almond oil. Tanner seemed to
sense the tension flowing through her. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.

“Shhhhh,” he murmured in her ear, “everything will be all right. Nobody is going to hurt
you or make you do anything you don’t want to do. We’ll take it easy, sweetheart. Slow and easy.”

Lira took comfort in his words and the warmth of his broad chest. Hands caressed her bottom and lifted while Tanner kept himself seated within her. Holding her breath in anticipation and not a little anxiety, Lira felt oiled fingers circle her tight aperture. A gentle finger entered her, spreading the light oil inside and out. A whimper escaped her as Tanner rocked her body up and down his cock and that seeking finger. She heard Red’s voice. “I’ll grease myself up too,
darlin’, so don’t worry. It’s gonna feel sweet, I can promise you that.”

Lira couldn’t see what was happening behind her, but the image of Red preparing himself for her was almost too much. Tanner’s hands slid up over her rib cage to cup her breasts, and he pinched her nipples at the exact moment Red pressed the head of his cock against her. Tanner lifted her chin, and his lips claimed hers, his tongue seeking her own, distracting her.

“Fuck, yes, this is gonna be a tight fit,” Red groaned as he inched his way inside her. “I
gotta go slow, sweets. Fuck,” he repeated in a hoarse voice, “I gotta go very slow.”

As Red began to fill her, Lira sucked on Tanner’s tongue, digging her nails into his shoulders, holding on for dear life. Even though the man held himself still for the moment, the pressure of two men inside her at the same time was more intense than she’d imagined.

Tanner tore his mouth from hers. “Breathe,” he instructed her, his voice a mere rumble.
“Breathe, Lira.”

Eyes closed, she clung to the sound of him with the same ferocity that she gripped his shoulders. As promised, Red took his time. At last, he’d seated himself deep inside her. He wrapped his arms around her, and his hands joined Tanner’s on her breasts, his fingers sharing her taut nipples. “Good God, woman, you’re a tight fit,” he breathed against her neck. “One of the wonders of the world.”

A quiet moan escaped Lira’s lips as both men moved, one thrusting up as the other moved
down. Unearthly was the only word that came to Lira’s mind. She had no other way to describe the gift of pleasure the two men gave her. Red slid a hand down her belly to her clit, and he began to caress her, his fingers circling her almost painfully swollen nub. Tanner’s hands remained on her breasts, and Lira knew it was time for Wat. She turned her head and rested her cheek on the captain’s broad shoulder. The third man knelt right there, watching the three of them through half-closed eyes, both hands stroking his long, hard cock.

Lira reached a hand to him and cupped his heavy scrotum while he brought the head of his penis to her kiss-swollen lips, rubbing himself against her mouth. She licked him, tasting his sweet salt, and, with a soft, kittenish mew, opened for him. The man tried to hold back, Lira could tell, but she took him as deep as she could, pressing her tongue against the thick vein on the underside of his shaft. Lira began to suck while Wat rocked his hips back and forth. She watched him place a hand on Tanner’s shoulder for support and then she closed her eyes
and gave herself over into the possession of her three chosen ones.

Blurb

England has abolished slavery, but not all are willing to let the lucrative trade go without a fight. The Royal Navy is charged with keeping the Caribbean clean of slavers, pirates and privateers… but even in the Navy, there are those who put profit before principle.

Captain James Hartwell rebels against the abhorrent plans of his commanding officer to run a private slave trade. In doing so, he seemingly signs not only his own death warrant but
that of his sister and loyal crew. All seems lost, until a blazing fireball hits the ocean.

Escaping on an obsolete galleon, Hartwell must evade the chasing English forces, protect his sister and his crew and deal with his near-overpowering attraction to a flesh and metal woman found floating in the ocean where the fireball fell.

Can they survive on the ancient, rotting galleon? What is happening to the crew as they develop frightening, almost demonic, powers? What part does the enigmatic Lady Mechatronic play in their transformation?

Pirates, flying saucers, a cyborg alien, steampunk and passion collide in the Caribbean. At least Hartwell has some absinthe to keep him sane. But this is just the beginning.

I loved the title, that’s what initially caught my attention. The blurb sounded promising so I chose this novella to review.

The comma overload and run-on sentences nearly ended this book before it began. There’s also a lot of pov changes in the middle of scenes (head hopping). All this could be fixed and should have. It was a nuisance catching these things while trying to immerse myself into this tale.

I kept reading though, the plot is intriguing. As soon as we meet Captain Hartwell the action begins. Despite the much needed editing, Ms. Wyatt does a great job of reeling the reader in. I felt the betrayal and the courage shown by Hartwell as well as his crew. I absolutely loved the description from the Captain when we first meet Lady Mechatronic. Very well done, Ms. Wyatt really painted an amazing visual.

The story progresses as Captain Hartwell and those loyal of his crew are pursued by the ‘bad’ guy. The pace is perfect. What really takes away from the story is once again, the editing. Every time I snuggle down and start to get into the unique story unfolding, a head hop butts in. Such a shame because this book is turning out really great.

The crew begins to experience changes, physically. When they went to rescue Lady Mechatronic they absorbed the technology from her world and are showing some very cool abilites. This adds another great element to the story. I can’t help but love this plot. It’s so unique and the characters well developed.

Now it has a rather quick ending but it was satisfying knowing there will be more in this series. I, for one, can’t wait to read them. Because of the poor editing this is rated 4 stars, otherwise, it would have been 5.

Historical Romance / Erotica - Novel
TBR reviewer: Luta Wolf

Blurb

When the Normans conquered England, Deorwynn lost almost everything, including her family. Only one beloved brother survives.  To rescue him, she must sacrifice her virginity in the enemy’s bed.  She should be well prepared.  After spending fifteen years in a grim convent, punished for every sinful thought, Deorwynn can withstand any torment at the hands of a merciless, Norman warrior.

But nothing, she soon learns, could prepare her for falling in love.

Guy Devaux is delighted with the amorous virgin waiting for him on his wedding night.  There’s only one problem.  The saucy-mouthed wench is not his bride. Oh yes, he knows the veiled woman in his bed is an imposter, but he’ll go along with the game.  For now.  The punishment for her deception will come later.

Just as soon as he conquers this foolish desire, this yearning to hear her say she loves him.

Deorwynn has a choice to make, she can either stay at the convent and become a nun or follow her mistress and be a proxy virgin for her. Looking around the cruel and dreary life of the convent she will do anything to be free even give herself to the enemy, a Norman.

There is something to be said for a opinionate wench, especially in a historical romance. Deorwynn is no simpering woman to obey the commands of a man, while as a woman she may not have a lot of choices she has enough and she’ll make them work for her. She never whines about her fate but instead takes what fate gives her and enjoys her life to the best of her ability.

Guy is like most men in history taking what he wants, thinking it’s deserved to him. Women are beneath him or so he thinks until a captive beauty curses him. I really didn’t want to like Guy but the author did such detailed job of explaining the history that the way he thinks makes sense. Plus his arrogance only added to his inevitable fall because really who can withstand Deorwynn.

There was no instant love but instead an instant dislike that was confused by the electricity arcing between Deorwynn and Guy. Needless to say this made for some really good and fun dialogue. Everything was well paced even the passion, never allowing you to get bored but
not going so fast that you get thrown out of the plot. I was so enthralled with this book and the characters that I hated to see it end. I look forward to the next book involving Deorwynn’s brother.

Excerpt

“You have been told what to expect?” he mumbled.

She nodded and then, remembering he might not see, murmured a quiet,
“Yes.”

He stilled at the foot of the bed, his tall shadow looming over her.
“Yes…my lord,” he corrected sharply.

Deorwynn felt one of her scowls coming on, but she banked it. He wouldn’t see
it beneath her veil and in the semi-dark, so it was wasted.  She was
supposed to be that idiot Sybilia, she reminded herself—the woman who was ready
to forget her previous lover the first moment she laid eyes on this great hunk of
blue-eyed manhood.  Had Sybilia been the all-important virgin, she would
gladly have tumbled in that bed tonight, but since she was a faithless trollop
instead of the pure maiden her new husband demanded, Deorwynn had the dubious
pleasure instead.  Thus, playing her part, she replied with all sickly
sweetness, “Yes, my lord. Whatever you say, my lord.”

He lowered over the bed, a hand on either side of her. And sniffed.

She backed away.  “Is something amiss?”

“Thought I scented the faint odor of sarcasm.  Surely not.  If my
lady knows my temper is not to be trifled with.”

“But I—"

Grabbing her ankles, he pulled her under him.  “Stop wriggling.”

“Ouch your hands are cold!”

“Your hands are cold, my lord,” he corrected her in a low, dangerous tone.

She repeated the phrase nervously.

He snatched away the pillow she held and tossed it from the bed. “Remove the
veil.”

“But I’m shy.”

“It’s very nearly pitch dark in here, woman.  What are you afraid of?”

“The unknown,” she murmured wryly. “You, my lord.”

“I’m your husband now.” His hands parted her knees wider, holding them with
ease, his strength overpowering her straining attempts to close them again.
He ducked between her thighs and she cried out in shock as she felt one strong
lick moisten her nether lips.  Reaching over her head, she clutched at
the nearest bed post as if it might somehow save her.

“This will prepare you,” he informed her, his breath tickling her sex.
“I am large and you are small, so you need this.”  Again he lapped at her,
faster this time, his tongue slipping part way inside her folds at first,
then thrusting deeper.  She heard a soft grunt of approval.  Then he
stopped and whispered huskily, “You’re tight as a vise. Don’t clench.  Lay
back.”

Men like this one had killed her brothers in battle, she reminded herself yet
again.  They stole away everything her family possessed and…

They apparently had very long tongues that could lick the bark off a tree.

He stopped again.  “Are you grinding your teeth?” he demanded.

“No.”

“I hear them grinding.  Be calm. Trust me.”

She snorted.  “Trust you? Ha!”

There was a pause.  A too long pause.  She held her breath.
Dear God had she given herself away already?
