Lexi hires James to be her escort for the night but their history makes things … complicated. Can they work out past mistakes or is moving on their best course of action?
Lexi is my hero. She knows what she wants and what she wants is James. She going to get him too, even if she has to hire him to be her escort for the evening. She also orders the escort plus package. She is awesome! I like her attitude, her vulnerability, her backbone. She is just so damn awesome! James is harder to pin down. He doesn’t come across as a bad boy or flirty. He came across as downright mean sometimes. Once he gives in to the romance they do mix more sweetly. The sex is definitely hot and that ending is super satisfying. Born to love; chosen to serve.
The constant upheavals of a military life doesn't bode well for relationships. But don't soldiers need love too? Army nurse Jenna Barlow closes wounds every day, and isn't about to let one open up on her heart. When a chance meeting turns into the hottest one night stand of her life, her own rules of engagement begin to break down, only to find that the mystery man has his own rule book to follow. This author rarely disappoints, her novels exactly as advertised and written in a straightforward, easy-to-read style. Add in the well-researched details of military meets medicine and you have the protocol for a satisfying story. However, Jenna's reaction to her one-night-lover Seb's behavior seems a little overdramatic, especially for an ostensibly toughened-up servicewoman. As well, Seb's secrecy about his identity and intentions seem out of character for a man well-versed in commanding others. Other than the battlefield Jenna is assigned to, there is little real conflict here, and even fewer surprises when it comes to the romance; but those are minor details if you are more interested in hot-as-hell sex scenes. If you fall into those ranks, TEN-HUT! This story stocks an army surplus! Andrew and Kiernan are freshman who experience an event that will change their lives forever. Rage, pain, heartbreak, their story is not going to be easy…...
Take a minute to enjoy that cover, how beautiful! The title is also an attention grabber. Okay on to the review. The beginning didn’t pull me in. Honestly, I was kind of confused and I had a hard time keeping all the characters straight. That said, I kept reading and really enjoyed the rest of the story. This is definitely not a light read. It is also a bit slow moving in some places and the time jumps/scene jumps make the story a bit disjointed. I did really like both Kiernan and Andrew. Their stories are dark and sad and stunning. They stole my heart. Don’t read this without tissues. I am struggling with the rating between four and three stars. I went with three simply because this book really has potential but there’s still several aspects I think could be approved upon. I would check out any other book by these authors. Brenn has a guardian dragon that is working her way through his tough armor. She has to help him find his family after the village is burned down. Together they create an impressive force but can they also fall in love?
I read Carnal twilight, the prequel, a few months ago and didn’t enjoy it. I’m happy to say the first book, In Search of Pride faired much better. The longer length really showed what the authors could create. It’s a fantasy world filled with rich description. Ciara is a great character. She’s a dragon with as much fierceness as the guys in this book but also a sweetness when it comes to Brenn. I really like how their story plays out. There’s some angst, lots of action and who doesn’t love dragons?! There are some slow spots that makes the story drag but overall, I enjoyed this story. The romance/sex aspect is good but written in an overly simple style and it is not as hot as I hoped it would be. The author also introduces us to some great secondary characters that I hope get their own story! Graham Swann is no longer the picked on gay kid from high school. He’s a high-powered lawyer who appears to be nothing less than cool calm and in control until he meets his old crush.
This book opens with Graham and Dan, two old high school acquaintances meeting for the first time years later, but Dan doesn’t recognize Graham. That doesn’t stop that old longing for Dan from flaring in Graham. The guys almost hook-up, but a call stops the heat cold. Graham seems to be pretty upset but glad. At this point I don’t get the any feeling that Graham wanted revenge or anything on Dan. I think he liked him still as much as before and wanted that one time. Little does Graham know, Dan is a new hire for the company Graham co-owns and the sparks fly despite Graham’s cool treatment of Dan. Swann’s Revenge is a bit of a slow burner.—The romance takes its time developing despite the fact both men wanted to get involved with each other. I think given their past it was appropriate. Plus Dan had gotten married and adopted a kid which I fell for as hard as Graham. As much as I enjoyed the energy and byplay between Graham and Dan, I thought Graham was a little too stuck in the past. Instead of just telling Dan who he was. He backed down from every opportunity. I didn’t understand the logic behind that especially as they got closer and it was obvious Dan had feelings for him. Naturally, it takes a crisis to bring the past careening into the present, forcing both men to deal. The scene was filled with emotion. I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and I was glad that he realized he had to let go of the past. I recommend this book to everyone who loves slow burning romances, cute kids and second chances. Bound by a dark act of hate and despair, high school freshmen, Andrew and Kiernan, learn that their untimely deaths did not bring an end to their pain, but only began the suffering of those left behind. While his lost memories return, Andrew must master seemingly impossible feats, both spiritual and physical. As a dark spirit stalks Kiernan through the borderlands of life and death, he must also face the pain his actions have caused his loved ones. To save both their souls, Andrew must convince Kiernan to return to life and open his eyes to the love and beauty which had always been there. 14+ due to adult situations
with the confidence of a warrior supreme. A silver sword hung sheathed at his side and a ball of light hovered over his open hands. His voice was light and airy, and yet, hinted at the nearly limitless power within him. “The Light was a sign of redemption,” he said. “The boy is forgiven his second failing.” Maroth curtseyed and lowered her eyes in quiet respect and she listened with a hopeful heart to his every word. “But his first failure, his greatest,” Raphael continued, “that is something between him and the Maker. And the one upon whom his actions brought great harm.” “And if he fails?” Maroth stammered. “He’s still just a boy.” “You know better,” Raphael said. “He made the damnable choice of his own volition.” He clapped his hands, causing the ball of light to wink out. “And so, be his path one into the Light or through the depths of Shadow, it rests now upon his own broken wings.” Maroth regarded Raphael with a mix of fear and understanding—should Andrew fail or fall again, he would come to know only the emptiness of Hell. Not the fire and brimstone assumed by man, but rather a state of utter desolation. Raphael saw through to the heart of her. “But know this,” he said with a small nod and a much kinder voice. “Love is the white rose of heaven, greater than any foe I’ve encountered since the beginning of time.” He began a slow walk out of the clearing and into the forest proper. With a touch of hope in her eyes, Maroth followed a step behind. “What’s to be done?” she asked. “Can I… Am I… How might I help him?” Raphael rested a hand on her shoulder. “Dearest Maroth. Did you know that in one of the ancient tongues your chosen name means perfect grief?” She nodded, blinking rapidly and looking down, as a sunbeam fell over them, moving back and forth with swaying branches above them, an act whose purpose Raphael did not miss, to hide her tears. “Dearest mother, you truly define it.” He touched her chin gently and raised her head until their eyes met. “Have you ever seen sunlight shimmer on rippling water? The colors. Hues. They’re magnificent, even breathtaking.” He produced a white rose out of the empty air and offered it to her. “Andrew must come to understand the Great Truth.” As her fingers curled around his gift, he looked toward the sky. “Then overcome the same failure shared by so many—those that give up on life before their appointed time.” She raised her brow. “Your words carry many meanings. And they bring great fear to one who has already lost all.” “Not all.” Raphael folded his hands and they continued their walk through the woods. “Pray on this. Understanding will come. Keep your eyes and heart open.” Raphael vanished, leaving the echo of his last words to drift along with Maroth. “Dearest lady of light, your sorrow need not last forever. Go to the bridge at the appointed time, for there is one who waits.”

Their dream stands at the precipice of utter ruin because their previous chef embezzled every last dime of savings they had for the lodge. In a last ditch effort to save his business from the brink of annihilation, Mason hires a new chef for their restaurant; sight unseen. Read an Excerpt: “If you want to lug a heavy suitcase, be my guest, sweetheart. I think we need a demonstration, a sample of your skills, before we go any further. Don’t you?” Mason challenged, letting his annoyance creep into his voice. She’d accepted the position without the clause of needing to see the kitchen first. So she thought she could toss in an extra demand, put a wrench in his plans to bring the lodge back from the brink, test who was in charge? It wasn’t her. Miss Fox could try but she would fail. This was his place and he would fight like a rabid dog to save it, to protect it further from outside harm. He wouldn’t ever allow the lodge or himself to be overrun by a pretty face. She smiled. The air was charged between them, electrified, as she stared him down, then said, “Cowboy, once you’ve had my cooking, you will be my slave and beg me to stay.” An image of Emily, collared, naked, and on her knees begging him to take her flashed through his mind. The unbidden thought unleashed a windfall of lust and it roared through his bloodstream. Mason tensed, beating back the unsolicited desire. Compartmentalizing the unwanted, erotic images, he narrowed his gaze. “Doubtful. I could take my pick from twenty line cooks today from one of the restaurants in town.” She rolled her eyes in an exasperated fashion and asked, “Then why did you call me?” “That’s what I’m beginning to wonder,” Mason retorted, not admitting that he wanted a chef at the top of their game. That he believed if they offered culinary delights not found at other resorts or restaurants, they would attract customers, and maintaining the current menu that was a crowd favorite was paramount. She was their Hail Mary Pass, even though she didn’t know it. Nor would he tell her that. She already had an overabundance of confidence. Cole intervened, severing the electric livewire connection as he stepped between them. Mason finally inhaled a deep breath while Cole gave him a brief glance with his brows raised high enough they nearly disappeared beneath his Stetson, and a ‘what the hell?’ expression. Then Cole shifted fully toward Miss Fox, his face calm with the pleasant smile he typically used to win over a sub, and said, “Emily, why don’t I take you over to the restaurant and you can see if it’s to your liking? We updated the kitchen two years ago and have all the latest equipment. Not that I have any idea what all those gadgets do.” It was the gamine grin, the spread of her pale pink lips exposing her straight, white teeth, and transforming her face into breathtaking. And it was directed at his brother. It shoved Mason toward caveman status. He wanted to snarl at Cole to back off, not to touch her, that she was his. Which was fucking asinine, and only fueled his internal engines to near record levels. “That would be fabulous. Thank you. Is he always like this?” she asked Cole, indicating Mason with a jaunty tilt of her head. Her hair shifted, making it shimmer. A half grin spread over Cole’s face and he replied, “No. Sometimes he’s worse.” Emily’s full-bodied, sexy laugh sucker-punched Mason in the sternum. The sound skittered along his spine and pooled in his groin. The throaty, jazz singer sound made him wonder what she sounded like when she came. It made him yearn to discover whether she was a screamer or issued almost silent, throaty moans. There was a part of him that wanted to bend her over his desk and fuck her until his legs buckled. “Good to know,” Emily responded with another shake of her head which made the waterfall of red tresses shift and move like flames. The color was so vibrant, Mason ached to feel the strands in his hands. Would they be as soft as he imagined, or would they singe his flesh? “It is; better to be armed and prepared. If you’ll follow me,” Cole murmured, diffusing the situation and ignoring Mason. “Honey, I’d follow you anywhere,” Emily flirted. With his brother. Jealousy gripped Mason, which was idiotic at best. He couldn’t want Emily. Wouldn’t allow himself to desire her. One, she was his employee and there were some roads that were better left untraveled. Two, he wasn’t sure he liked her. She was brash and mouthy, and most likely as vanilla as they came. But that didn’t seem to matter to his dick, who liked the thought of playing boss and naughty secretary with her a little too much. Except then Cole picked up the ball Emily had lobbed his way and responded, “Likewise, sweetheart. Mason, you coming?” Almost. And from a damn fantasy. He shook his head, attempting to distill the lust raging through his veins. He bit out, “I’ll be right behind you two.” About the Author: Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Anya grew up listening to Cardinals baseball and reading anything she could get her hands on. CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET Read an Excerpt: Waking up to a tanned and taut arse was certainly a pleasurable way to greet the morning. Simon didn’t want to think too much about the fact he’d let a man sleep in his bed, contravening his long-held rules. Best chalk it down to a temporary bout of insanity. He got out of bed, leaving a slumbering Nick sprawled across the mattress—the man was a bed hog of note—and walked into the bathroom. A shower was what he needed, as the smell of sex and male cologne—not his—lingered tantalisingly on his body. He was fixing his tie and taking a sip of freshly brewed coffee delivered via room service when he heard Nick’s groan and looked over. Nick unwound himself from the duvet and squinted at him. “Morning,” Nick said gruffly, voice still thick with sleep. “You’re up early.” he peered owlishly at his watch. “It’s only seven a.m. on a Saturday morning.” His tone was incredulous, and Simon couldn't help grinning. He made sure his appearance was satisfactory and turned to face Nick. “I have an appointment at eight-thirty with someone. As it’s across the city, I’d rather leave a little bit of extra time for the taxi to get there on time.” “A business appointment?” Nick echoed. “On a Saturday?” Simon frowned. “Yes, on a Saturday. My business doesn’t close when everyone else clocks out for the weekend. Urgent matters require urgent attention.” Nick sat up, the covers pooling at his waist. He looked debauched and adorably tousled. “Urgent matters? Everything okay?” Simon shook his head. “Not really. Someone has been ripping me off and I intend to find out who and why. Safe to say, I’ll be ripping them a new one when I find them.” Nick’s eyes widened. “Wow, you look scary when you do that whole snarly thing you have going on. Sexy, but scary.” He leaned back against the headboard with a sigh. “My job isn’t respectful of weekends either. I’m on call twenty-four-seven.” Simon noticed Nick didn't say anything further about his job and the quick prick of curiosity that flared was soon dampened. Best not to get too much detail about the man. Sharing personal information wasn’t really required at this stage. Ignoring the part of him that really wanted to find out what Nick did, Simon reached over and picked up his document folder, and wallet. “Well, thanks for last night. I need to get going now so feel free to clean up and leave when you're ready. Order room service if you like. My treat.” Nick grinned lazily. “I feel like a kept man. Are you going to give me a credit card so I can buy new clothes too? Perhaps pamper myself with a facial and a massage?” The words held no censure or pique, but Simon felt a little ashamed. “I didn’t mean to insinuate anything,” he said frostily, “I merely want you to have a comfortable experience when you're here.” Nick flapped a hand. “Relax, Mr Uptight Brit. I was only joking.” He swung his legs out of bed, stretched and yawned as he turned to face Simon. Simon’s mouth went dry at the sight of the chiselled naked, male torso. Damn the man was gorgeous. Of course, then she gets laid off. Her only job offer is with her ex-husbands, ex-business partner and the attraction between them sizzled long before she took the offer. Now, she’s working for Jack and dodging her ex-husband.
This book has so much potential! Great characters, hot hero (Jack) and likeable heroine. The problem is the ‘bad guy’, Dean. He is Ridley’s ex. He’s also Jack’s former business partner. The romance is really quick between Jack and Ridley but super hot. I wish the author had taken her time with them. Anyway, back to Dean. He’s the ex-husband, a total jerk that cheated on her. He marries a young woman and then comes back to tell Ridley he doesn’t want her working with Jack. Why? What’s his motive? He had a hot, younger, new wife so why hang onto Ridley? Then he’s beyond angry when he finds out Ridley and Jack are sleeping together. Again, why? Angry enough to pull a gun on them? Really. WHY?! He sounds like he moved on and then does a complete u-turn on them. I wish his motives would have been clearer. So, lots of potential with this book. I look forward to see what else this author comes up with. We’re back in Samantha Young’s world for Cole’s story! *grabby hands*
Shannon goes for the bad boys and it’s led her down a terrible path. She’s trying to claw her way out from under her mistakes when she gets a much needed job. She loves the tattoo parlor and the people but for one, Cole. He flirts too much and she doesn’t want another bad boy who’s just going to ruin her life. Again. But when she gives in to one kiss it leads to another and another and another… This is Cole from the previous book, Down London Road, which you have to read because it’s freaking fabulous. Anyway, Cole is all grown up now and damn did he grow up fine. He’s tattooed and muscular and gorgeous. He had a hard time dealing with his feelings for Shannon, especially since they both said some heated words in anger. But Shannon has a past that she has to deal with and she wants Cole to be the one to do that. The problem is that her family stands in the way. Oh my God, did I love this book. Another huge hit by Samantha Young. I love the chemistry between Cole and Shannon. The heat, the anger, the love. I’m totally going all swoony on you. Sorry. This book is just the epitome of romance and I fell head first into it. This is another Samantha Young book that I had a hard time pacing myself with. Once I started reading I didn’t want to stop. Must. Read. Give yourself a few hours and sink into this world! |
