I’ve been a Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputy for four years. Most folks don’t have a clue about what a cop deals with every day. Like a pack of attack chihuahuas, a monkey with a bad case of diarrhea, a hungry python, a Brahma bull named Bodacious and a six-foot iguana.
And that is just the critters. Now let me tell you about the two-legged varmints. Such as a three-hundred-pound biker who got a bit irate when I zapped him with a stun gun, or a murderous nun, and let’s not forget the senior citizens having an orgy. Ugh.

My personal life isn’t much better. Off duty I’m a ballroom dancer which everyone makes fun of. At a dance competition Detective Sergeant Dante Delgado waltzed into my life. Law enforcement isn’t for the fainthearted. Are you brave enough to enter my world?

Kade is of an alien race known as D’shar. Ivy is a top scientist for earth. Together they search for a badass enemy and find out that they are mated.

Kade, oh, Kade! What an amazing man! He made me want to go crawling into a spaceship and search the vastness of space for the D’shar people. He was so hot and sweet but gorgeous. I really loved his  personality. Ivy was adorable and she was equally as lovable. When they two meet, I was enthralled and knew their story would be one of my favorites. The plot is really unique and I love the world that Ms. Colt created! I haven’t read any other book in the series but it was easy to follow.

The surrendering is a must read! You’ll fall in love with the D’shar men like it did!

Maci has a problem, her mother’s a drunk. She is also falling hard for a roughneck with eyes that could melt any woman into a puddle at his feet.

Wow, just wow. For a short story this was fabulous! The characters had good depth to them and back story. They weren’t perfect, which I liked. They both had problems and were trying to deal with them when they met. Heat, holy hell, I was squirming in my chair! My only complaint was that it was a bit rushed in places: One week later then one year later. If fleshed out this would have been 5 stars for sure. As is, this is still a highly recommended read!

This is the first time I read this author and I will definitely be reading her again. Loved by a Rough Neck was a short story that packs a fabulous, romantic tale in its pages.

Sutton, a thirty-one-year-old nurse, agrees to meet her friend Leigh and Leigh's husband
for dinner, along with Leigh's husband's co-worker. Sidney, a fifty-year-old professor, had been burned by a younger woman before, but he is still immediately attracted to Sutton. As they are drawn closer together, they have to navigate a minefield of family, ex's, and past history to find if they are able to be together.

First and foremost, this is a romance story - boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy almost throws girl away, boy gets girl for good! The details, however, make it a great read. Sutton turns out to be a natural submissive, loving the opportunity to let go of the control she has held since losing her father as a young girl. Sidney, although dominant, has past hurts that he must
get over before they can move on.

The supporting cast are quite amusing - Leigh and her husband, Sutton's mother and younger sister, and Sutton's ex-fiancé Jackson all play into the story. I really liked the fact that this was played out over months - the two characters did not fall into love or even into bed immediately, and their relationship started out as dating and developed over time. It also portrayed the BDSM aspects as developing slowly which I also appreciated. Sidney took his time with Sutton since everything they did was new to her. I enjoyed the confrontation with Jackson in the cafeteria and the final scene wrapped the book up well.

After ten years together, Oceane "O" Dubois, a half-French poet and writer and Maxim Wajda, her boyfriend since high school, hit a brick wall. Maxim allowed his insecurities to surface, and on the cusp of his band hitting it big-time started using cocaine to fuel his creativity while writing music. After walking into their apartment to find Maxim over-dosed, O kicked him out until he stopped doing drugs. Six months later, he comes back, hoping to win her again for good.

I appreciate that O makes Maxim agree to no drugs, less alcohol, couples counseling and a twelve-step program when she takes him back. I also liked that they both had a part to play in their co-dependence rather than it all being Maxim's fault. I'm not sure that there shouldn't have been even more angst in the making up process, though. It was almost too easy for her to take him back. On the way to recovery, Oceane was sometimes suspicious for no reason, which also felt realistic. Of course, being surrounded by nosy family and friends was sometimes more hurt than help as well.

Overall, I liked the story, but it was short for the amount of time it covered and could have stood a little better editing in spots. It did leave me curious as to what will happen for Oceane's sister, Aurelie, who is shown as having a mysterious heart-break in her past that makes her extra-cautious, and is quite the contrast to Oceane as she has followed her father's footsteps into business. I liked O and Max's happy ending, especially with the two surprises at the end of the story.

Excerpt

His hands began a gentle massage on her lower back then crept up her spine and into her hair. The growing bulge in his pants pressed against her stomach and her panties grew moist. It had been so long since she’d felt him move inside of her. His width and girth were almost too much to take and his thick cock occupied every inch of space inside her walls. He was just too male. The thought of it made her face heat.

“God, Maxi.”

She clutched the back of his shirt. Her nipples strained against the cotton that teased them. The material was an annoyance to the heavy mounds that ached to be fondled. She fought the need to grind against him as her body trembled, begging her to relieve the tension that made her pussy pulse as her cream continued to flow like a hot fountain.

“Oceane,” he whispered. God, how did he manage to make her name sound so damn sexy? “I want you mon ange.”

His nimble fingers stilled in her hair and slid down to cup her face as he bent to meet her gaze. “I long for you. Please don’t deny me this.” She remained silent as his soft lips met hers. All rational thought abandoned her as she permitted the passion that flared between them to scald her.

His tongue traced the seam of her lips before it plunged inside her moist cavern. Each swirl felt like a possession as he claimed her mouth in the name of Maxim. Her shaky knees weakened and she clutched his shirt tighter while leaning her weight against the counter. Mews left her mouth and she sucked his tongue deeper. Her legs crept up to wrap around his waist as he lifted and set her on the counter. She spread her legs wide and he wedged himself between her thighs. When they finally came up for air she rested her head against his chest and used the rhythm of his heart beat to steady herself.

“We can’t do this, Max; I won’t go back to the way things were.”

"Why not?”

“Because when you’re using you’re a lunatic, you go on rants, you disrespect me and every time I leave I worry that I’m going to come home and find you overdosed.”

“I’m not using like that anymore, baby, I’ve cut down a lot.” He attempted to soothe her with gentle strokes through her hair and butterfly kisses along her jaw, up to the sensitive area behind her ear.

“A lot isn’t good enough, Maxi! You’ve been using on and off for years, what about kindling? The little bumps you think of as harmless could easily spell your death!” Her voice broke as she looked up at him with watery brown eyes.

She fought down the urge to let his charm sway her and continued her rant. “And then what would I do? Life without you is unthinkable. I feel like a zombie as it is. Like my life has been placed on hold for the past six months.”

“Then why do you keep us apart?” he asked before he delivered a nip to her neck that made her gasp.

“B-because I refuse to let you think it’s okay to continue to do this.” Her brain had started to feel like it was coated with molasses. Her thoughts slowed, her focus grew dull. She was losing the battle.

“I know it’s not okay, O.” he said. The suction on her neck added more to the pool of liquid that had formed between her legs. Desperate to break the sensual spell he weaved she brought up the white elephant in the room.

“Don’t you remember what happened six months ago!”

“How could I forget?” Max’s body grew rigid. His hands stilled and dropped to his side. His shoulders slumped as he moved away.

“I came home and found you laying on the floor unconscious with blood pouring from your nose.”

“If I could take it back, I would. That memory haunts me on a daily basis. God, your face when I came to…” He shuddered and shook his head. His blue eyes clouded over with a cocktail of pain and self loathing.

"I can tell it’s eating you up.” She said. “What I don’t understand is why you won’t just stop.”
She lowered herself down from the counter knowing she’d dodged a bullet. The vivid memories, doused the flames of desire he’d stoked. She rushed to door, gripped the metal knob, and kept her eyes downcast and turned away from him. “You need to leave now.” One more look into those azure jewels and she’d be fall back under his spell.

 “Oceane—”

“No, it’s easy to forget what’s happened when you come here like this and you’re so much like your old self. But zilch has changed.” Oceane flipped the latch and spun the lock, desperate for him to leave.

She jumped when Maxim’s heavy hand came down against it the door to keep it shut. He pressed the length of his body against her own and bent to nibble his way down her neck to nip at her shoulder.

“Tell me you don’t want me.”

His large hands cupped her breasts as he ground his hardened cock against her ass. The skin on the back of her neck was caught between his teeth. The slight pain sent an electric pulse straight to her core. Her hips gyrated back against him of their own accord.

“That’s my girl.” His husky whisper was accompanied by the tweaking of her pert nipples and the continuous nudging of his rigid cock between her ass cheeks finally wore her down. She widened her legs and gasped when his stroke extended to hit the area that needed his attention most.

“You’re so wet you soaked through your boxers.” He groaned. “I want to touch that pretty pink pussy of yours, Oceane.”

“W-we shouldn’t be doing this-”

“Shh, this is just for you love. Let me do this, I need this and you do, too.”

“B-but noth—.” Maxim’s hand slipped beneath the band of her boxers putting an end to all her protests.

“No, Panties? What a naughty little girl.” His finger stroked along her drenched slit, captured her cream and took it back to her engorged clit.

“Oooh, God,” she said.

Boden is a fabulous, hot, hard man who works for Lucifer. He’s written with a bit of humor, a slice of sarcasm and a whole lot of sex appeal. Yum, would be the best word to describe him. Anna, is the reaper who got stuck training him and trying to rid him of his dark side. Together, they’re a match made in hell.

What a fabulous read. Ms. Colt really blew me away with this one. There were still the occasional rushed scenes, and some editing issues but the story was solid. The dialogue was fantastic. The tension between Anna and Boden was beautiful written.

Wicked Temptations is a treat.

Excerpt

Boden moved away to pull her pants down along with her panties. Anna’s curly hairs were neatly trimmed, and her apex glistened with the proof of her arousal. He wanted to go to his knees and taste her. To attach his mouth to the swollen bud that peaked from between her puffy lips and suckle her until she came screaming his name. The intense emotions rolled through him, shaking him as he resisted. He needed to remain in control.

“You’ve got such a pretty little cunt.” The foreplay was skipped as he thrust a finger deep
inside her tight hole, and she cried out. Her voice was a strange mix of pleasure and pain that had his tip dripping like a faucet.

“Fuck, you’re so wet and tight.” His finger began to thrust, and her hungry walls sucked him in. Gripped him and held him in their taut embrace.

“You like what I’m doing to you don’t you, my girl?”

“Oh God! Yes.”

“I’m far from done.” He added another finger and pumped faster. “I want to hear you scream my name when you come.” Anna’s fingers curled around his shoulders as her walls shivered, and she rocked her hips in time with his rhythm. Her walls shuddered around his fingers before they clamped down. A gush of liquid flowed forth as she threw her head back and screamed his name. The shrill cries were music to his ears. Her weight rested against the wall, and their gazes locked as he pulled his digits free and sucked them into his mouth. Her honeyed nectar exploded on his tongue, and he moaned. She tasted like ripe fruit sprinkled with sugar.

“You’re the sweetest thing I think I’ve ever tasted.”

“B—”

“Shh, you’re not the only one who has things to teach.”  She looked dazed as she nodded her head and allowed him to right her clothing.

“I think you’re the one who needs to think about what we want from our time together. The ball’s in your court now.”

After reading the excerpt I couldn't help but rub my hands together in anticipation! A shifter, Luz, that can’t shift is returning home to deal with the man she left behind. Kalyx, who should have been named ‘sex on legs’, is a shifter who learned to shift late. Did I mention he borders on feral and likes to growl. Can you say hot?! He has always been in love with Luz, even
after she fled from their pack. Now, he intends to find a way to make her his and never leave her side again.

The beginning is usually shaky ground in books, for me. Either the author grabs my attention or they stumbled into a story. Ms Colt did a wonderful job introduction Luz. Our non-shifting shifter is a successful, strong but in no way over her first love.

Kalyx has always felt like a disappointment to his father especially with the shifting late in life. He’s determined to have Luz even if it means losing his title in the wolf pack.  I absolutely loved Luz’s sister, Ivy. She was sassy and really brought scenes to a new height. Did I mention how much I loved Kalyx. Holy crap, the man had me dreaming of shifters!

The scene changes were very jerky, there was no even flow to keep the story going. At the beginning the family seemed very disjointed, no one had any emotion showing for the other as you’d think a pack family would. I also noticed a lack in surrounding details. What did their home look like? Rooms? Various scenes were left completely to the imagination; I really wish Ms. Colt had painted the picture of their surroundings with words as she did with her characters.

Overall I really enjoyed Wolf In Waiting. If Ms. Colt had taken some time, flesh out the story more, it would have certainly attained 5 stars. This had such a rush to it that in some scenes, it hindered Ms. Colts talent such as the ending.

As is, Wolf in Waiting was without a doubt a novella I’ll be recommending and a solid 4 stars.

Excerpt

A sane person would close the window and head back to bed, but the passion he aroused refused to be denied. She would deal with the consequences of tonight tomorrow after the smoldering fire had been extinguished. The smell of dark spice increased and her center responded with a flow of liquid running down the inside of her thighs as her center pulsed. Her walls contracted with every breath she took. Her sensitive body begged for relief and in a blink she went from the hunted to the hunter. A smirk graced her full lips as she slowly
unbuttoned the silk shift irritating her overly sensitive skin.

Lingerie had always been a guilty secret, and she knew from past experience he loved to watch her take it off. She shoved the offending material off her shoulders to the floor and ran her fingers up her flat stomach to cup her full breasts and begin a rough massage. Her long fingers elicited moans, pinching and pulling, the erotic site set his eyes aglow with passion.

"Like that, don't you?" she teased, a husky chuckle spilling forth when he nodded.

"Good."

In need of more stimulation she untied the bows of her panties one by one and lifted a leg onto the sill to bare her slick center. More moisture streamed down her thighs as his growl of admiration made her spread her lips to reveal the pink petal inside. Past the point of a staged performance she cried out as she buried two fingers deep inside and went to work. Hard, sure pumps had her hips snapping forward. She forced her eyes to remain open as she rubbed her swollen clit in circles, and her pussy rippled as an orgasm roared through her body.

Her mouth opened in a silent scream echoed aloud by his hearty howl of approval. Coming down from her high, she was grateful for the click of the light in the room beside her own, chasing him off into the night. Her head rested against the coolness of the window and she knew the concept of being over Kalyx Hunter was nothing more than a carefully constructed lie.

Blurb

Phelan D’Shar knew agent Zasha Johnson was his mate the moment she walked into his classroom. At the time, her age and his position as her professor kept him from acting on his desires.

When the biological mating period known as The Wanting hits, it ignites a passion that neither can resist. Will the icy Zasha run from her feelings or embrace the man who melts her heart?

Review

Picture
Shyla Colt hits the passion nail on the head with a novella of racial boundaries that prove love conquers all and "little green men" are really gorgeous Alpha males that know how to claim their mate.

The first thing I noticed was the editing problem. It really needs to be fixed but as I read more the story overpowered. Those who are strict with the editing might have a problem with this book.

The sexual tension between Zasha and Phelan was so palpable my heart rate skyrocketed through most of the book. Zasha proved to be strong , and stood by her beliefs even when temptation threatened to compromise her at every turn.  I found Phelan to have a big heart for his people and willing to be fair in his feelings for earthlings regardless of the restrictions placed on him as an Alien. They were passionate, caring, and honest with their feelings for each other. Being able to picture these two like a sci-fi movie in my mind is a victory for the author.

I enjoyed this fast read as I couldn't put The Wanting down. The secondary characters were set up with enough content to build the sequels and I liked them immediately. This was fun, exhilarating, and successfully checked the boxes I look for in a “keeper”of a book. Bravo! I look forward to the next books in this series.

Excerpt

Phelan bent to take her lips with his own. The sweet flavor of peaches danced along his
tongue as her nails scrapped his scalp. Her full lips were pillow soft against the gentle nips she administered turned aggressive as they moved from his mouth to his neck and back again. Tiny white teeth marked their territory, and he loved every moment. Zasha’s urgency was a delicious torture that overrode rational thought as he lowered her body down to the soft blanket below. Under the concealment of night they were nothing more than two lovers ensnared by the romance found in the classical chords.

“God, Phelan, I’ve missed this. I’m so cold when you’re not around.”

“Then let me warm you,” he whispered into her ear.

His tongue traced the delicate shell of her ear before he indulged in the column of her neck. Zasha’s content sighs and the feel of her nails on his back beneath his shirt spurred him on. His hips ground into hers, the hardness between them unmistakable.

“Phelan,” she moaned. Her long legs spread as wide as she could manage in the pencil skirt
fit of her dress.

“Shh, you have to be quiet.”

The corners of his mouth twitched upward at her hushed protest when he rolled off her and propped himself up onto an elbow. His lips dipped to cover hers once more as he eased up her skirt. His hand skimmed beneath the crisp cotton of her dress and ran along the damp cloth barrier. Her cream had soaked through her panties and rolled down her thighs.

“I love how wet you get for me, Zash.”

“Phe.” The sound of his name shortened on her lips made his cock twitch. The unconscious familiarization made him growl. A flick of his wrist popped the elastic band off the cloth that barred his entrance. Thick digits drove inside her flooded tunnel. Her slick walls tight around his fingers as she rocked her hips.

“That’s right, Zash, take me inside you.”

Her vagina fluttered in response. She liked it when he told her what to do. When he took the control from her and pushed her boundaries. He added another finger and titled his thrust to hit the sweet spot inside her.

“Come all over my fingers, baby.”

He took her cries into his mouth as she convulsed, her pussy a vise grip around him as her cream overflowed. Phelan removed his hands and smoothed her skirt back down before he sucked his fingers into his mouth. The salty sweet flavor a tangy taste he relished as she slowly came back to Earth.

“Is that better, Zash?” he asked, voice strained as he adjusted his painful hard-on.

“Yes.”

Zasha voice had gone soft, and he could feel her mental retreat. He hooked an arm around her waist and eased her to set beside him as he tucked her beneath his shoulder. Damned if he’d let her run again so soon.

“W-what are you doing?”

“Giving you more relief.”

“Phelan—”

“No.”

“No?”

“Call me what you did before.”

“Phe?”

“Yes.” He breathed. “Why do you fight this, Zasha?”
