Laurette is the head elf of New Elvenswood. He's in love with both his longtime friend Hugo, a vampire, and the human woman Charlie, who is a non-witch born to a family of witches. As Valentine's Day approaches, Laurette is determined to use all of his wiles, which includes the baking that he's known for (and lives to do, especially when he's stressing as he is now), to convince both of his lovers to permanently move in with him. Charlie, born Charlotte, is a research assistant at a college in a town near New Elvenswood. She enjoys her job, sharing her office with Corvin, another assistant. She's rejected his oblique overtures for years, but he's desperate now that she tells him she's involved with someone--who can't possibly love her as much as he does. Dr. Hugo is a vampire, but also a medical doctor who spends his time saving humans, when he's not feeding from patients with a disease that makes them need to give blood regularly (This disease actually exists. I've read about it.) He and Laurette were besties for a while, before Charlie came into their lives. She's the catalyst that allowed them to express their feelings not just for her, but for each other. But so far, both he and Charlie have refused to give up their jobs and their homes--even though they're both very much in love with Laurette and each other.
This was the second book in a series, which means that at the start, I was thrown off by not knowing who anyone was, and how they relate to each other. Having the book start off (and end) with a fictional "letter" from a muse was very confusing as were the two chapters of a romance book that Charlie is writing, which were both tossed in at random times in the story. And there was one character who has a few names, which means it took me a while to know that "Dinner" and "Fogberry" were the same Fae and why they're both his names. After I got the hang of who was who, and enough details from their interactions with each other to know what the plot in the first book was about, I got into the story. There are nutty characters, humorous interludes, and mixed in are steamy sex scenes. There's a visit to Hell, which proves to be a lot of fun for Charlie and Laurette, him being an old friend of one of the rulers there. Toss in Cupid and she starts shooting love arrows around town but everything turns out great in the end. Even though he hasn't convinced his two lovers to move in with him, Laurette knows beyond a doubt that their love was strong, and would survive. Arrow Struck is a highly recommended read!
Masataka is a shape-shifting neko. Apparently in Japanese folklore, that means he brings good luck. He's a black cat when he's not a sexy golden-skinned Asian man with a huge--um--appetite. That huge appetite gets him into trouble when he picks up a kitsune (who is a sly red fox when not a stunning woman) in a bar, not knowing it's her wedding day. He gets banished to Earth and cursed to live only as a cat until someone wants him to stay.
Effin has had bad luck her whole life. Her name came from a misunderstanding between the nurse and her mother, who was exhausted from her labor and delivery. She has a younger sister who has devoted her life to making Effin miserable. Since Effin hasn't had a boyfriend since her sister stole her last one, she's looking forward to her Valentine date. Of course, everything goes wrong, and she ends up having to walk home in the rain. She finds a black cat who melts her heart, and brings him home with her. Immediately her luck begins to change. The relationship between Effin and Masa, as she calls him, gets down to business very quickly, from the time she wakes up being satisfied by a stranger she's never seen, a sexy Asian man who is in bed with her. She fell asleep snuggling her new black cat. There are so many scenes of sexy times that I had to call this erotica, though there is also a relationship and a romance. The story was a little slow to start, and since I'm not familiar with the neko and the kitsune, I'm not even sure how to pronounce the words, nor do I know about their magical powers. I did enjoy the steamy descriptions of the sex that Masa enjoys with Effin, since he's been without during his punishment as a cat. But there is a scene before he meets Effin, where his cat-self, shall we say, pleasures himself? Kind of a weird scene. I've never wondered how cats do things. The story picked up steam in the middle, and I finished it in one sitting. I had to know if they got a HEA. It's more of a HFN, but Effin's luck has changed for the better, and I'm happy for her!
This collection of five stories written for those of us who are super-hero fans. Since I'm a huge Marvel fan girl, I enjoyed it. It's a collection of stories that imagines how the people who wear the masks really feel about each other.
The first story, Hero Sandwich, is super-hot! It rates a five because most of the story involves the BDSM taming of a used-to-be supervillain, whose father made her help him rob banks. Now she's gone straight but the two superhero brothers who catch her want to see how kinky she might be, under her mask. Phew! This story requires a cold shower after. The second story, Voodoo, is a continuation of the first story. It's steamy. The second brother gets his HEA here but in a less forceful manner. The third story, Taming Jack, has five chapters. This one involves alien critters who enter the minds/brains of humans and give them super-abilities, a common theme in sci-fi. The Jack in question wants to avenge his sister's death, and has neglected his woman because of his search for the killer. She wants to save him from going over to the dark side, because the alien in her brain warns her that he's headed that way. What can save him? Hint: he and his woman will have a really good time finding out! The fourth story, Natasha and the Android, is a quick funny read. There are a few jokes about power tools. The last story, Masks and Mistletoe, is another five chapter story involving BDSM in a huge way. It also has aliens in the super-heroe's brains. It poses the question, can she be a sub when she can bench-press a semi? If she's way more powerful than the man who wants to be her dom, can it work? Hint, it can. Unmasked is a highly recommended Anthology!
Axel is tired of living in his werewolf pack. Since he's an Omega male, he gets bullied constantly, and he never gets noticed by any females, who are too busy drooling over the alphas. He's afraid to live on his own, and well-aware that he's not supposed to mate with a human. But since he's never had any luck with females, he figures that won't be a problem he'll have to contend with. So he runs away from home and gets himself a job and a small efficiency apartment.
Cassie isn't very experienced with men, and Benjamin, the one male she had the most experience with, didn't want the son he got her pregnant with. In fact after she moved in with him at her request, Ben became mentally, and eventually physically abusive--to her and to their son. So she ran away from him and his money, to raise her baby in safety. But she fears that his money will find her, and he may try to take baby Ben away from her. So she doesn't trust anyone. This was a very quick read. The bad guy was truly evil, and the werewolf turned out to have more humanity in him than the real human. There is only one sex scene, but it's descriptive. But the insta-love between Cassie and Axel didn't convince me that it was enough for her to not be afraid of the shifting that Axel is capable of doing. I guess with a short novella like this, things have to happen quickly. If you want a quick read, with a satisfying conclusion and a steamy sex scene with a virgin male, this is for you.
The handsome vampire, the human and the sexy elf have to save Christmas in this paranormal world…
The beginning is a little confusing. We’re reading the writing of the character the author is writing. The story is continued as she writes it through the story which I wound up really enjoying. It is like two stories in one. Charlie/Charlotte is heading home for Christmas even though she really doesn’t want to. She hates dresses but opts to wear one. I know exactly how she feels. Now, the scenes are very jumpy, the pace is also slow moving and the editing is rough. I did receive an ARC copy so perhaps that’s the reason? I’m not going to take off any stars for that. That said, the story plays out that she’s going on a date with a handsome doctor but there’s nothing average about this world. Witches, elves and vampires live here too. That puts a nice spin on things. Now the vampire, the human and the elf have to save Christmas. That includes a heavy attraction between all three. There’s a lot of steam toward the end of the book with a m/m/f scene that I really enjoyed. If you like holiday themed books then Holiday Magic would definitely tickle your fancy.

Gordon is a vampire medical examiner (cool!) and Orrin is a werewolf detective (also cool!). They are thrust together to investigate gruesome murders popping up. As the body count rises so do the bulges in their pants. Can murder get in the way of romance? That cover! Yikes. I would have passed on this book if my choice is based on the cover which would have been such a shame! The Hunting Mates is a good book! I really like Gordon. His personality is fantastic. From how he talks to the dead to his awkwardness with wolves. Orrin is also equally liked. He seems like a good detective who’s determined to get answers. Their romance is nice but I didn’t feel that connection between them. I think that has to do with the sex scenes though. They read very technical rather than emotional. Again, there’s an issue with jumpy scene changes. The mystery is great. I like how the suspense really kept me on the edge of my seat. Gordon and Orrin are in the thick of danger as the story comes to a thrilling ending. This is the third book in the Dusk and Dawn series. It’s been an entertaining journey so far!
Blood Service by Angela Knight: Rating 5, heat level 5
The only author I have read before is Angela Knight. Blood Service is her story, about Adiva, a spy on the run, with a very high price on her head. She and the vampire she was a "blood thrall" for, were working to topple an evil ruler on a planet. Her vampire was killed, and she's being hunted. She's captured by a bounty hunter vampire known only as The Vigilante. From the start, he gets under her skin. Seems he read her bio before he decided to be the one to catch her but not to turn her in. More than he wants money, he wants to possess a blood thrall (enhanced human blood donor for vampires, with extra strength and stamina.) And since he's a level 21 dominant, and she's a level 17 submissive, he has big plans for her. Phew! Did I mention this story is a scorcher? Of course, since Adiva is a natural submissive, the things he does to her cause her to leak copious sexual fluids, which ramps up the excitement for both of them. The erotic scenes are plentiful and creative. Most of them involve toys of some kind and things to add kink to their steamy sex. This is the kind of story you need a fan for, enjoy! Slave School Dropout by Dakota Cassidy: Rating 3, heat level 3. Slave School Drop-out, tells the story of Nyla, who is a cat-shifter, descended from the Egyptian goddess Bast. Her bestie is the common tomcat shifter Lucas. They've been friends since they met a year ago at a shifter meet-'n'-greet. He told her from the start that he had feelings for her, but she relegated him to the "friend-zone" immediately. He's been patient enough to stick around. Now she sees the back of him in the aisle at a pet food store, and instantly she's turned on by his smell. When he turns around and she realizes it's her bestie causing her to feel such instant lust, she's dismayed to the max. Can they work it out? And what will her snobby parents think about their daughter bringing home a tomcat? Even though the author likes to laugh, I didn't find much humor in her story. Her heroine is ditsy to the point of being annoying. The long-suffering Lucas should have cut his losses and run. When he smugly informs her they belong together, after they have sex once, she runs into his bathroom to avoid dealing with him. While looking for a hand-towel in his closet, she finds a collection of sex toys. Note: when the author has to put a disclaimer before her story saying that her heroine's reactions to BDSM are meant to be funny, you can be sure that without that explanation, some readers might not have realized that. And when you read who she gets her sexual advice from, you might want to say, "Aw, hell no!" But there is the requisite happy ending, at least for Nyla. Lucas still might want to reconsider. Tainted Kisses by Kate Hill: Rating 4, heat level 4 Kate Hill's story, Tainted Kisses, was romantic and steamy. Naobi is a good vampire. Her creator explained to her that eternal life is a gift and to be used to enhance the lives of the mortals around her. Etlu was ripped from the body of his dead mother, on a battlefield of gore, after his creator and minions destroyed yet another village. As a boy, he was tortured and abused by his adopted brother, as well as anyone else who wanted to. They tried to teach him that having feelings of any kind is a weakness and that the only purpose he should have is to serve the dark god that his creator serves. He's a Viking leader of men who is feared by all. Etlu and his men destroy the village that Naobi, disguised as a man, had been protecting. He insists on a public death as a warning to the others, who will be taken back on his ship as slaves. He plans to rip out both of her lungs in a procedure known as the "blood eagle," which kills even vampires. But when he tears off her shirt to see that she's a woman, he decides to keep her for himself. She agrees to go with him as a willing occupant of his bed, if he frees the people she'd been protecting. To everyone's surprise, he agrees. Does he posses any vestige of humanity? And will she be able to reach it? Etlu is a very confused evil vampire. He has never known any love, or even what the word means. He's raped and pillaged his way through life. He's sometimes peers into windows to watch mortals as they express their love to each other. It's a very different behavior than that of his men, who rut quickly as they please, with any female nearby. He wonders how it might be, with someone who is a willing partner. Since Naobi has proven herself to be strong, he suspects she might be able to teach him something. I felt sorry for Etlu, as Naobi does. He certainly is a willing pupil, once he realizes that females can enjoy sex as much as men, if the men are willing to learn a little thing called "foreplay." LOL. Since he's so dominant, it's not surprising that they discover the fun in dominance play during sex. I predict a long and happy undead life for them.
What happens when a child star leave the fame and settles down away from Hollywood. He actually starts to enjoy life. That is until he gets some nasty threats. Now he’s got to go through all the trouble of hiring a bodyguard and worrying about some crazy fan. Who knew the bodyguard would be so hot or that the sparks would fly…
This really reminded me of The Bodyguard by Whitney Houston. It had that same romantic suspense vibe going on. Gene is a great character. He left the limelight and he was almost happy being away from all the crazy but then the crazy came to him. His chemistry with bodyguard Leo is fantastic. I could really feel like tension and need. There’s some great sex and some great action! I enjoyed finding out who the stalker is and why. If you enjoy romantic suspense this is a must read!
Caitlyn snuck out on Jakob after a wild night together. When he finds her again, he’d determined to keep her but Caitlyn isn’t so easily won. She’s also not sure why a cyborg like Jakob would travel all over the galaxy to find her when they’re don’t normally become attached to their bed mates.
This is book five in the series and I did feel a little lost at the beginning. Caitlyn and Jakob act like they know each other but it’s a very brief description, almost like a synopsis of what happened. Perhaps the events happened in the previous book? I’m not sure but our main characters are having sex just after meeting which didn’t give them much sexual build up and the sex scenes are just too close together. I really liked Caitlyn. She did what she could with what she had in order to survive. Jakob was harder to like. He’s got more of a caveman approach. When Caitlyn leaves him again, in bed with the room bill, it takes another year to find her but find her, he does. Once he finds her the second time, the book really gets great. We get action and some mystery as to who is chasing Caitlyn. The ending has a cliffhanger and I’m interested to see how the story turns out. I think if the book was longer and had more meat to the story it would have been an amazing scifi romance story. These 52 pages is an interesting looking into Anne Kane’s Cyborg world. I think if you give Running from her Cyborg a read it’ll entice you to read more in the series.
This is a fun, silly quickie. Simple plot, Rezoth is a master demon who sends a lesser demon, Lemus, an incubus, to collect sexual energy from humans. Lemus is good at his job--his specialty is men, and he returns awash with energy. Rezoth offers Lemus a reward and is surprised when Lemus wants to make love to him.
The sex between them is a little over-the-top and tongue-in-cheek but an incubus is made for sex. There are explicit sexual descriptions that will get you hot. Quickly, Lemos is promoted to Rezoth’s personal body slave and collared. Lemos is happy as he doesn’t have to return to the human dimension, but stay and worship Rezoth. This doesn’t last long. One job of a master demon is to hear petitions from other demons. Rezoth doesn’t rule in Farol’s favor, and Farol, is stupid enough to kidnap Lemos. Rezoth follows Farol to the human dimension to save the man he loves. This is a quick read to waste an hour. Comedy wasn’t listed as a genre, but this story made me chuckle. The ending is definitely happy-ever-after… Lemos is chained to Rezoth for an eternity in hell. Guess that means two demons discovered heaven in hell! |
