Initiation Mesmer Society by A.R. Lain Length: 25 pages TBR Reviewer: Shyla Rating: 4 stars - Recommended Read. Heat: 4 Handcuffs - An Erotic Ride. Loved the story but the ending made me want to shake my Nook like it owed me lunch money, no really. It was the one thing holding me back from giving it 5 stars. I’m all for a series leaving you wanting more but this one came to a screeching halt before I made my train stop. You’re a tease Lain. Apparently it’s a good thing though, because I sure as heck will be reading part two of this series. Lol. This interesting account gives a fascinating, and realistic glimpse into emotions, and thoughts, on a situation one wouldn’t often find themselves in. It was all too easy to imagine being the heroine, sweet, unsuspecting photojournalist student, Elliot, who goes to cover the story of her career and ends up discovering something about herself she doesn’t know how to deal with. Undercover working a story on a secret sex society is a hell of a time to realize you’re into kink. The description of the acts performed where blistering hot with the proper amount of sweetness. I loved that Lain showed it’s about control, but there’s caring and enjoyment there as well. Sometimes I think that’s sorely lacking in BDSM romance.
If you’re looking for a quick read to peak your curiosity, bring the heat, and you don’t mind a cliff hanger ending I’m going to say this is a must read. GIVEAWAY: A.R. Lain is giving away an Ecopy of Initiation. The TBR Pile is giving away a book from our Prize List. To ENTER: comment below on why you want to read Initiation!
Baby Stetson by Nikki Lynn Barrett Genre - Romantic suspense Length - Novel TBR Reviewer - Daniella Rating: 4 stars - A Recommended Read. Heat: 3 - Blush Worthy. This story is about Avery, who was adopted by two wonderful parents, after she was found abandoned on a door step. Her nickname and stage name as a singer is Baby Stetson, as when she was found as a baby she was wearing a little Stetson hat.Even though Avery is very happy with her adoptive parents and the life she has, she can´t help but wonder about her birth parents. The answers seem to be coming when two guests check in to the inn owned by her parents and causes a turmoil in Avery´s previously safe and stable life. One is the sexy, but very secretive Lucas, to whom Avery feels an immediate attraction. The other is a man who claims to be Avery´s birth father. This was a very well written book with great characters and a great story. It had a very good balance of romance, suspense and action. It is a page turner, with a good plot that keeps you guessing about all the characters true stories and their motives. Avery and Lucas is a lovely couple with great chemistry. They had some ups and downs on their way to their, albeit a little bit rushed, happily ever after. One part of the story came from left field a little and could have been left out (sister Paula) and the few sex scenes felt a bit clumsy (in otherwise great writing). All in all this was a very enjoyable and recommendable book and I can´t wait to read the next book about Avery´s childhood friend and band mate Jameson.
Blizzard Author: Taryn Kincaid Page Count: 20 Genres: Romance, Erotica TBR Reviewer: Jessica Rating: 3 Stars - A good read. Heat: 3 - blush worthy. Blizzard is a quick erotic read about Mandy, a businesswoman, snow bound at a rest area on her way home from a work-related conference. Sexually frustrated, Mandy doesn't think twice about propositioning Jack, a sexy stranger she meets in the rest area food court.
I was pleasantly surprised with this book. For such a short story, there is definitely no shortage of steam between these characters. I found it incredibly impressive that the author could create such well-developed characters and such an intriguing story, not to mention a surprise twist, in such a quick little novella. What begins as a sexy sordid tale of two strangers contemplating how to wait out a snowstorm, the book ends in a twist I certainly did not see coming. I adored the dialogue between the characters. At first, I found it a little awkward how forward Mandy was in her approach with Jack but as the story unfolded, I decided that it all really worked perfectly with who these characters are and where their story ended up heading.
For an erotic read, the story was just steamy enough to push some comfort limits, without going too far. Readers like myself that appreciate some heat between the sheets... or in this case, the seats... will definitely enjoy Blizzard. I certainly did.
Riptide by, Susan Hayes Page Count: 260 Genre: Ménage, Paranormal, Shape-Shifter TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf Rating: 4 Stars - Recommended Read. Heat: 5- Orgasmic Jessica Jones was ripped apart when she found out that her father was leaving her mother but that was nothing compared to the pain of watching her mother slowly die. While at the family cabin licking her wounds, life throws her a life jacket in the form of two hunky rescuers. Rory and Evan are more than happy to show Jessica that not all men are made alike, if they can just get her to take a chance on them. Just another seal shifter… wait, nope, never read one of those before. Thank God, originality here we come! In every way this book was breath of fresh air to a jaded book reader such as myself. From the relationship to the shifters involved, even the plot kept me on my toes with all the emotion and the anticipation as to where the book was headed. It was fast paced but the length and the fact that we were reading a shifter book balance everything out nicely. I really like the characters. I wasn’t particularly a fan of Evan and Rory’s relationship as far as the bedroom but that’s the only glitch in the book and maybe if I’d understood their relationship a little bit better than it might have been smoother. Without knowing everything though the whole 'no, eww, we share but I’m not touching him' with added blood brother, just didn’t work for me. However, the interaction with Jessica did and I really enjoyed their relationship with each other outside of the bedroom. Regardless of whether I got their physical relationship or not, I will say that the sex scenes had me flushed and roaring to go. They were HOT! Riptide was a well written, steamy tease that I could not peel myself away from until the last page.
Ours (The Bears #2) by Hazel Gower Genre: menage (M/F/M), paranormal romance Length: novella TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 3 Stars - A Good Read. Heat: 4 - An Erotic Ride. Sandy is tired of alpha males - between her firefighter father and brothers, she is overwhelmed and sick of it. Fate, though, has the last laugh when she joins her female friends at a self-defense class only to find herself claimed by not one, but two large, bear shifter males. Jake, a police officer and his cousin Zach, a tattoo artist and business owner, know right away that Sandy is the one and only True Mate for them, but Sandy takes quite a bit of convincing. I had trouble with this story because the romance was really far-fetched. Just the thought that a policeman and self-defense instructor would deliberately break into the home of the woman they wanted doomed it for me, and the way the three fought and made up frequently just didn't work. It felt like nothing was ever working out, just covered over with sex. However, if that aspect was overlooked, the scenes between the three of them were very hot, and I really liked when Sandy told Zach's mom off over the phone.
Betrayal’s Shadow By, K.H. LeMoyne Genre: Paranormal Romance, Action, Urban Fantasy TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf Rating: 5 stars- Highly Recommended Read Heat: 3- Blush Worthy Would you risk everything to save another even if you knew perhaps you should walk away. Each night Mia’s dreams summon her to a jail cell where tortured soul Turen lives. Though to help each other would mean breaking a oath cemented in time, it could possible be what saves them both. I like Urban Fantasies but only if they are written very well. I want no confusion, there has to be depth and detail. Which this author more than delivers, everything was three dimensional in its vivid delivery. I adore the characters, Mia is vivacious and bold. It might be cliché but it fits that there is just something other worldly about Turen. Together they are simply dynamic with dialogue that is quote worthy. I truly enjoyed the new spin on “We must not be together” that we see in their relationship. I also enjoyed that it didn’t take long for Turen to go forget that. While this is very clearly a romance, there is some theology concepts thrown into the story line that for me personally really added another dimension to this book. It turned a simple story into a full bodied book.
I can’t recommend Betrayal's Shadow enough, it has something for everyone. GIVEAWAY: Ms. Lemoyne is giving away an Ecopy of her book Betrayal's Shadow! The TBR Pile is giving away a book from our Prize List. To ENTER: Comment below on why you want to read Betrayal's Shadow!
Sweetest Salvation by Kacey Hammell Genre: erotic romance; BDSM-lite; contemporary romance Length: novella (90 pgs.) TBR Reviewer: Amanda Rating: 3 stars - A Good Read. Heat: 5 - Orgasmic. When Andrea "Andy" Sheaver loses first her son and then her husband, she spirals into a self-destructive depression for a year. When she seeks out the sex club owned by her husband's best friend for sex and pain, Hunter steps in to try to keep her from making terrible decisions she will regret in the future. Andy has avoided Hunter since her husband Patrick's death, feeling that he was trying to make decisions for her and boss her around, but the subtext of their ten-year friendship finally comes out of the woodwork in the form of an ultimatum - Andy can visit the club only with Hunter himself.
Although there is one sex scene that walks into D/s sex, mostly Andy's kink is voyeurism. The sex between Andy and Hunter, though, is more sensual than kinky, and this novella is more about two people healing from the loss of family and finding a second chance at love than anything else. Although I appreciated both the past that Andy and Hunter were drawing from and the time they spent together before deciding they were "in love", I never fully connected with them as people. However, the sex was well written and the story was still enjoyable.
Prometheus Unstitched by Lila Shaw Genre: Contemporary, Superhero, Erotica Length: Novella Rating: 5 stars – A Must Read Heat: 5 – Orgasmic What’s a girl who makes superhero costumes going to do when a hero makes her anger rise, lust overwhelm and can change her silver streaks? He also faints at the sight of blood and someone is trying to kill her. You have to read this book. Simple. It is freaking fabulous! So humorous and hot, what a wonderful read. I’ve never read any story with this plot, or anything similar. Superheroes (the B rated kind), humor, action, hot and well developed characters. Did I mentions the sex? Setting your Nook/Kindle/Computer on fire. So hot. Lila Shaw delivers a flawless story with Prometheus Unstitched.
The First Time by Jenika Snow Genre: Fantasy, Erotica Length: Short TBR Reviewer: Brutally Honest Rating: 4 stars – Recommended Read Heat: 5 – Orgasmic Veronica is about to be auctioned off to a husband. Will it be a fairy tale or a nightmare? There was good world building. I liked the characters, Veronica was really great. Everything was a bit rushed but it was still an entertaining read with lots of heat. The sex was perfectly written, wicked and sensual. I would have loved a longer story to get more depth to the characters. The First Time is a quick read that holds a lot of heat.
Alike As Two Bees by, Elin Gregory Page Count: 82 pages Genre: Historical Romance, Gay Romance TBR Reviewer: Luta Wolf Rating: 5 stars - A Must Read. Heat: 3 handcuffs - Blush Worthy. Philon is not a 'wet behind the ear' youth despite his innocence, he knows what Hilarion is about when he comes courting. But despite knowing, the sweet way of Hilarion and his scarred, clumsy beauty seduces Philon in a way that no demi God could and so he let’s himself be courted. I have an Italian friend who makes the best spaghetti sauce ever, and all that’s in it is olive oil, fresh tomatoes, onions, pepper, and herbs. Sometimes from the simplest ingredients comes the best meals ever. Needless to say this story is simple as the plot nor the characters are that original but I found that all the ingredients complimented each other so well that it made a very flavorful story despite the unoriginal template.
This has an almost Dirty Dancing happy for now feel to it. You don’t see how the relationship could possibly work despite how badly we want it to work, not because the main characters are gay but because there are certain expectations for males of that time even when they are allowed to dally with other men. However the book doesn’t end feeling like a happy for now but instead we are given hope, a very simple but nice touch.
There are many characters and each is a bit stereotypical but it truly felt that the author took them deeper and made them more. We have the usual characters of the struggling poor young boy, the rich but mature youth, the bratty spoiled youth, and the father figure boss. However the detail put into them such as the missing tooth and scar on Hilarion, how Philon is calloused and not what you would consider the pretty boy youth, these things took the characters to a new level. If you couldn’t tell, I loved Alike as Two Bees by Elin Gregory, it left me with a warm gooey feeling. Giveaway: Elin Gregory is giving away an Ecopy to one lucky winner.
