Casey is a detective but she has a secret, she's killed a man.
That's the opening line of the blurb. How awesome does that sound? I couldn't wait to read this book. Casey and her friend, Diana are both in the cross hairs of dangerous. Diana finds out about this town that is in the middle of nowhere, not on any map, and is supposed to be for people who want to dissappear. When they arrive, they find out a detective is just what they needed because there's a killer on the loose. Who's telling the truth? Are these residents victims or criminals?
This book is told from the point of view of Casey and I think that really brings the mystery to a great peek. She has no idea who to trust and everyone, EVERYONE, has a secret. Even the hot sheriff that is both annoying and compelling. There's a sweet romance between them that I wish became a bit more heated. There are a couple of things that Casey does that made me roll my eyes. It's the only reason for not getting 5 stars. She's a cop with a traumatic history some of her reactions to things just don't make sense such as the guy following her in the parking lot. She assumed and ignored, really?! There is so much amazing in this book though. Rockton is such an interesting idea. I love the characters, they all have depth and secrets and shadows. The mystery is fantastic! I was stuck between two characters on who is the killer. Luckily, it is one of the two.
If you love romantic suspense then City of the Lost is going to be a highly recommended read!
Elena is the only female werewolf in the world, that anyone knows of. Most humans don’t survive the bite but for some reason she did. However, how she got the bite is the real story. It is from her fiancée, Clay, who never told her his deepest darkest secret. Years later, she separates from the pack trying to get back into a human state of mind. When the pack leader calls for help she reluctantly returns and nothing will ever be the same…
Okay, I’m starting this review off with the bad. They killed animals. I hate that in books. I’d normally DNF the whole series but I really like Elena so I kept reading and skipped those bits. The info dumps. Holy crap! There are pages and pages and pages of info dumps. This is an older book so I gave it a bit of leeway with that. But I like Clay and Nick too. I am kind of hoping the three of them have something going. So, I kept reading. There’s also cheating which is also another big no for me…I kept reading. The author manages to grab me and pull me in despite all these issues. She has some serious talent. I love the relationships in the pack. Jeremy, their leader, Clay who’s more animal than human and Nick who is all about the flirting. They all had a rough childhood but came together to survive.
The mystery aspect is well done. Who’s killing all these humans? Why are mutts suddenly banding together? I truly enjoy the suspense and the action is fantastic. I’ve already ordered the second book! Then I found out there’s a tv series based on this. That is definitely on my list to watch!
