Accounting professional Erica Teague's numbers have come up. Betrayed by a co-worker and former lover, her bottom line only adds up to prison for embezzlement. Sequestered in her home until her court date, Erica has no plans or hopes for the future. When her neighbour's sexy and persuasive houseguest from Scotland asks her to be his 'American Fling', she reluctantly gives in to his request. After all, she'll be behind bars in a few short months, why not enjoy what freedom she has left?
An enjoyable read, this contemporary novel has the backbone of a good plot. A chance meeting with a sexy and charming stranger leads the heroine to hope for something better than her inevitable incarceration. Falling in love isn't a column on her spreadsheet but Lachlan MacTaggart's charm calculates a new total for her to consider, if even for one short month. He's a strong, handsome and genuinely good man, all the ingredients for a likeable hero. Erica's plight is an unusual one and a nice break from the typical damsel in distress.
Apart from that, the endless descriptions of Erica's feelings and sensations during their sensual encounters becomes tiresome rather than exciting. Some interesting editing has left behind some jarring cut-and-paste mistakes as well. While Erica faces genuine conflict, Lachlan's decision at the conclusion of the story is a bit at odds with his past.
Fans of HEA romances will certainly get a positive return on their investment with this book!
