I love a strong female lead, and in this instance, Ms. Pegau had two. After a strange incident in a bar with an intriguing woman, Natalia Hallowel’s life continues to spiral downward. Suspended and accused of taking a bribe while her company performs illegal activities, she opts to take matters into her own hands and investigate to find the truth. Tough without crossing the line of too much, she’s got a good head on her shoulders, and enough bite to back up her bark. It was refreshing to see! While working undercover she meets Gennie and the plot thickens, as it always does when you add romance into the mix. Gennie is a woman stuck between a rock and a hard place. A woman who wants the best for her children , she struggled to find her place, and settle down while running away from her deceased lover’s powerful family. A fighter, you can’t help but admire this woman for all she’s overcome. She reached out to Natalia for help unveiling a secret that could save her or get her killed and winds up receiving much more.
Bent, but not broken these two woman handle their baggage, and rediscover who they are as they come together as a couple. I loved that most about their romance, the fact that they grew together. The spark between them is a live flame powered by lust, admiration and love. It made for well-rounded couple I really believed in. Self-discovery, intrigue, action, drama, and smoldering heat, what more could a person ask for? This 'must read' delivers in a big way, and is the perfect chose for a reader looking for Sci-fi done right.

Sasha James is a recently paroled drug addict in a future world. Part of her parole includes a chip in her neck that can both keep her from craving amber (the drug that got her in trouble) and track her movements. When Nathan Sterling crosses her path several times, she discovers that he may be either her downfall - or her ultimate salvation. Sterling needs James' help to get his sister away from the same drug dealer that caused Sasha's problems and he wants to use Sasha as his bait to rescue his sister and destroy Guy Christiansen. But, he never realized that he would fall for Sasha in the process and then have to deal with two women he needs to save.
Part science-fiction, part romance, part suspense, this story is all good! Both Sasha and Nathan are complex characters with shades of gray in their moral fibers. Nathan's willingness to risk his job and use a civilian as bait played off well against a woman that wanted to put her past behind her and felt herself unworthy of a good man. As the twists unwound and the past became clearer, Sasha and Nathan's relationship became more real and believable. I especially enjoyed that the science fiction aspects were not so complicated that they distracted from the story.
Caught in Amber was well written and I will definitely seek out other books by this author.
