Ava has turned forty and is still single. She’s tired of the same pool of men that aren’t her type. But to her surprise a younger man in her running group may just change that. I loved Ava. She was confident but still unsure of herself with Cole, until she took the reigns. I love, love, love the dialouge during sex. The promotion lines were hilarious. This author knows how to write by pulling the reader in with a great plot and engaging characters. And this is a short story she managed to grab me with!
Then we come to the ending, or as I like to call it, the downfall. There was no ending. It was getting to know the characters, hot sex and then she falls asleep unsure of what to do next. It was like half a book which gets me so angry. Thus three stars. I want to read more by this author, she has real talent but only if it’s a full story next time. Beginning, middle and ending.

It's always hard to review short stories like this. There's simply no time for an extended backstory or complications. I didn't particularly think much of Chloe's reason for not going out with Kai when they were in school together (a two year age difference), but I get why many teens have that issue.
Kai - I loved the whole competitive surfer character and the way we got a quick glimpse into the life.
Chloe - nice career choice, photographer. And now covering surfing events...can't get much better than that.
I think what kept this from being a four-star review is the fact that the sex scene that took place took over a third of the page space. I would have liked to see more character development rather than sex (and just a single sex scene to boot). I enjoyed seeing the acknowledgment that there was definitely something between them, for the longing (on both sides) to have lasted the five years between their high school experience and the current day. For what this book is, it's a sweet little read about love refused and then accepted later on.
