Jenna Darrow lost her husband and child in a car accident. Since then she’s been on the verge of breaking down. One night with a bottle of booze and a shotgun brings her face to face with the Ancient, a vampire, who gives her a chose. Life or death? When she wakes up with some alien device planted in my spine Jenna knows her life will be forever changed...
Jenna! I loved Jenna when she is introduced in Shades of Midnight. Now, she has her own book. After surviving the trauma of her family dying and then surviving the Ancient, she’s raised the bar in badassery. She’s a former cop who doesn’t take the knowledge of the breed or what’s inside her lightly. Her reactions are very natural and I love how she deals with Brock. These six feet plus, chocolate skinned man has gotten too closer. He has feelings for her that even he doesn’t understand. They start a great dance but of course it’s interrupted by freaking Dragos and his crazy plan to rule the world. There’s tons of action in this book sprinkled with romance which has become the norm for this talented author. I for one can’t wait to read the next book!
Kade is sent to his home in Alaska to deal with a series of vampire/breed murders. His best guess is his brother, heartbroken and guilty at the thought he gets help from Alexandra, a bush pilot that found one of the crime scenes. She's seen these kinds of deaths before, her mother and brother were killed the same way. What happens when neither of them can hide the truth?
Alex's history is revealed in small increments which works really well. I like her a lot. Her strengths, her weakness, her urge to kiss Kade. It all built a wonderful profile of a heroine. Kade doesn't have the greatest history with his family. He feels guilty about leaving his brother but also heartbroken about suspecting his twin in the killings. Although I saw the twist coming, I love how it all unfolds. The actions is only surpassed by the romance. Kade and Alex are so beautiful. Add a scenic Alaskan backdrop and I couldn't put this book down.
Mystery, romance, and the Alaskan wilds make Shades of Midnight a must read!
Renata’s had a hard life, from an orphan childhood to a life on the streets and then finding about the world of breeds. They’re part vampires and she has the mark of a breedmate. Above all else she’s a survivor so when a powerful breed master takes her in his home she obeys to stay alive. Her willpower is wavering after all these years and because of a sweet child named Mira. Then she’s sent on a mission to capture a breed male that’s been asking questions about her master. Nikolai is stricken by Renata’s beauty and then by her powerful abilities. She knocks him on his butt. When Mira’s life is in trouble she must go to Nikolai for help, but will he be able to save them all?
Renata is a bad ass survivor that knows her limits but tries to overcome them. She’s keeps herself cold and hard as stone to stay alive. The fact that the kid manages to wedge her way under that steel wall of Renata’s is sweet. Then she tricks Nikolai and knocks him down a peg or two. I love how she is the one to save him! I’m all for powerful women. She does have a softer side which we see when her and Nikolai have to spend time together. Their romance is beautiful and heated. They’re both reaching for each other and neither knows how to deal with the emotions. It’s great! Beyond the romance is the master’s death and the selling of Mira. It’s fantastic action that really sprinkled the story with suspense.
Veil of Midnight is another story with bite in the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian!
I’ve jumped back into the violent vampire world of The Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian. I had no problem getting back into this story line. The author does a great job of weaving in the past without bogging down the story.
Dylan is a reporter for a cheesy magazine for the paranormal, she also happens to see ghosts. One such ghost has led her to an eerie cave with a vampire intent on killing himself. Rio was betrayed by his mate and has dragged himself through the brink of death by an explosion. He’s scared and depressed. He’s ready to end his life when a human walks through the cave entrance and starts taking pictures. When he hunts her down to erase her memories he discovers the mark that means Dylan is a breed mate. While they fight the attraction between each other an eviler plan is discovered by their enemies. Will Dylan join this vampire world on the edge of war?
Dylan is fabulous. She’s bored with job, hates her boss and can see ghosts. The woman just can’t get a break. When she finds Rio and escapes with her life she considers that some luck until he tracks her down. I love the chemistry between them. Dylan’s afraid but the more she gets to know Rio, the more she wants to help him. Rio’s a freaking mess. Not that I can blame him. His mate’s betrayal, almost dying and now this. His transformation from a depressed, suicidal state to hopeful is wonderfully written. The story line is so damn creepy. An ancient vampire looking to create his own army. Although the ending is a twist followed by beautiful romance it also leaves the arch open for the next story. I’ve already ordered Veil of Midnight and can’t wait to see what comes next!
Midnight Breed is a vampire lover’s dream series! If you like True Blood than I highly recommend giving this a try!
The world axis shifted and as a result Earth became a new place. There are shifters, goblins, trolls and other such strange creatures. Nisha the Heartless takes any job she can without question. Her newest job is transporting a large box and it’s contents changes her life forever.
Inside the crate is a giant dragon that shifts into a seriously sexy man, Drakor. Despite how gorgeous he looks naked, I didn’t like how quickly Nisha gave up her way of life for him. One second he’s a prisoner and the next he’s kissing her. It was too quick to build the feelings between them and make them believable. The action was good and the plot really worked out well. I liked the characters too. I like that there’s more than just the badass exterior to Nisha and that Drakor has a few secrets of his own. However, all that was dimmed by how quick they fell in 'love' and ‘knew’ each other.
This was an okay read. There was a lot of good story aspects and interesting world building.
This is a free read from Lara Adrian that came be read here.
