Jules has met her match but Romeo comes with Mafia baggage.
The Battered Hearts Series continues with Jules story. I was very excited to read this because Jules is one of my favorite characters from the first book! My only other complaint is the sex. It’s hot but there’s too much of it. By the third sex scene, I’m bored with it. By the fourth or was it fifth one, I skimmed them. This author has a lot of talent. I just wish she’d balance the romance and the plot better. The rest of the book is fantastic. I love each character. In this book, we meet Romeo’s brothers. They’re complete dogs but I absolutely love the banter between the three of them. It was really entertaining. Being discovered having sex in the center is great fun to read! There are fantastic twists that kept me reading into the early hours of the morning. There is great action and I really like the mafia ties.
Star Crossed is a highly recommended read!
Melanie is hiding from her abusive ex-husband when she meets Clay. She’s clueless that he’s the heavyweight champion, to her he just looks sad and lonely. She buys him pie despite not having much money to pay for it. Thus their romance begins but not without complications.
The beginning is a bit confusing. I think more dialogue tags would have helped. I thought the waitress’ name is Judy and it turns out that’s another waitress’ name, not the one Clay likes. It is also confusing at first about Wyatt being the sheriff. It read as if they were two different people at the beginning. Once that’s all sorted out, the story really plays out beautifully. Clay is fierce but hides a soft heart. Melanie is tough, running from a rough past and determined to survive what life throws at her. Their romance is great, a dazzling dance. The sex is hot but there is too much of it. Those are crazy words, I know. But one sex scene right after the other can get boring. I think less sex and more story would have made this a 5 star book. The banter between Wyatt and Clay is fantastic, funny and genuinely entertaining as well as believable. Jules is witty and wonderful, that would be Wyatt’s sister. Although, I’ve read this story line before, this is well written and I’m excited to read the rest of this series.
