Even the remotest places on Earth can't hide you from your destiny. Humiliated by a cheating husband, 51 year old author Sydney Berry plays spin-the-globe and winds up in the tiny community of Colville NZ for a year of seclusion, reflection and hopefully productive writing. As a middle-aged writer of erotic romances, Sydney has no illusions about finding love again. but ironically it finds her in the form of 30 year old Daniel Reilly, a young marine biologist living and working in the area. Their attraction is immediate, but Sydney can't bring herself to believe a May-December romance is possible, let alone has a chance of success. Daniel however, has no such reservations and shows Sydney just how hot a change of season can be.
This is a delightful read. The author displays some first hand knowledge of the setting, its people and culture giving a feeling of really being there. While Sydney and Daniel's romance is sweet and has the reader rooting for their happiness, it seems a foregone conclusion since there aren't a whole lot of obstacles in their way. He's single, she's divorced, they meet and fall in love against the backdrop of an exotic and beautiful country; oh, and have screaming hot sex along the way. She has trepidations about their age difference once or twice, but seems quickly forgotten once they get inside the bedroom. (Just as it should be!) However, without struggles, victory never seems quite as satisfying.
Guilty Pleasures Under Southern Skies is a recommend read!
