Lady Katherine Harleigh has refused to be King John’s lover and now faces punishment. She is in a dungeon. He is trying to starve her to death. She fears no one will come for her rescue. Geoffrey St. Claire is defying his king by going to the aid and rescue of Lady Katherine, his once teenage love. He will risk everything to have her safe again and make amends for the past. He only has a short time to show his love and lust for Kat before King John comes for them.
Just like the first story, right from the start, Kat’s story draws you right in. She is such a strong woman to stand up for herself in this time period where woman are nothing but property. She is feisty and I love that about her. Geoffrey is not at all what Kat makes him out to be. He is fierce but loving and caring especially with his beloved Kat. Their rekindled love through the story is well written. The teasing that Geoff does makes me smile. The chemistry between the two is amazing. The story was cleverly written with the twist and turns that will leave you smiling. A great story.
William Dunwick must do his kings bidding. King John demands him to go fetch Blanche Bergeron, a widow who hasn’t paid her taxes. Her penalty will be marriage to a young boy. This will be to King John’s benefit. He takes one look at her and he knows he wants her. However she is forbidden to him. Blanche Bergeron is a happy widow she has made do with her station in life and is now trying to prosper. She however refuses to pay the high taxes King John has placed on her land. When she meets William and discovers his purpose for the meeting she must try to talk him into leaving without her when, if all else fails, she will out smart him. They embark on the journey back to meet Blanche’s fate when they both cannot fight the pull between them and risk all for their passion.
At first I get the impression that Will is just a stand up guy that follows orders. However, he is not at all what he seems. He completely surprises me with his wit, intelligence, and strength. Blanche is a breath of fresh air. She is not the typical woman of this time era. She has taken the role of Lady and Lord of her keep and I commend her for that. When these two get together there is instant fire between them both good and bad. Their fight and flight scene was sexy and funny all rolled into one. I loved how the ending turned out and very surprised as well completely threw me off not what I expected but I definitely enjoyed it.
Elise Drummond has always done what her husband asks of her. Now that he is dying he has paid her childhood friend and love of her life to father a child to keep her safe as well as her husband’s holdings. However can she handle being with him after all that has happened. Simon de la Poer wants Elise and will do what it takes to have her. He will show her true passion, but will everything he worked for and what they shared, be for nothing.
When I first started reading this I was truly saddened that Elise and Simon had to separate. She was to marry and he was to leave to train . Reminded me of Romeo & Juliet in a way since their love was being denied. Several years passed and now they are pushed together again for a purpose. A Child. It was a little awkward for me when Elise and Simon had to perform in front of the husband and I was hoping it wouldn’t happen again which it didn’t, so after that I found the story very enjoyable. The heat between the two were amazingly orgasmic. His naughty words so unlike a gentleman of the time era was a great touch. Then the plot thickens, untrusting servants, murder, and an arrest this makes for a truly amazing read. This is the first book in the series and I can’t wait to see what is to come next by this author.
