This third book in the Duty Bound Series can easily be read as a stand-alone; although Avery Stone and some minor characters from the last part of the book were apparently introduced in the previous one, not having read it did not take away from the enjoyment of this story. The myriad twists and turns of the
complicated conspiracy kept me guessing until the very end as to who the villain(s) were as well as who Avery and Hannah really were. The author did a fantastic job of obfuscating the crimes while keeping the reader interested. The romance between Hannah and Avery was also well written, with each being drawn to the hidden depths they glimpsed in the other. Rory was a great secondary character as the traumatized little boy fighting his own demons. My only complaint was that a few times when the scene changed it wasn't obvious that there was a break and I needed to re-read to figure what was happening. It wasn't enough to take away from my overall enjoyment of the book and I recommend it for readers of romantic suspense fans.
