I enjoy Ms. Richards' writing and this series is no exception. She manages to make each book unique while still fulfilling the romantic expectations. Each of her male highlanders comes from different circumstances and brings something unique to the valley, while each dragon has his own unique characteristics as well. This particular story has some suspense-filled moments in it, but they are not major and the overall tone is light-hearted. Although Thom's past is painful, his personal character has risen above it and he seems to be a well-rounded person despite it. I liked the way both main characters decided to take the risk and bond right away, not playing games with each other in any way. I think you could read this book even without having read the rest of the series, but some of the background information might be nice to have from the first two books.
