Liam, a guardian sworn to protect those with the blood of the supernaturals, should feel no love, passion, or desire for his charge, but he does. In order to build a life with her, he
must ask a boon of his queen and king. He must become a real flesh and blood man. For what human woman could ever love a leprechaun?
Liam is a leprechaun and he's a guardian for Cammie. She lives alone, hiding out on the mountain from some cruel men that want to kill her. This is a balanced mix of suspense and fantasy.
The first thing that caught my attention – Liam has no dick! Yes, our leprechaun is rendered a-sexual because he’s a guardian and they’re not supposed to be attracted to those they protect. Say what now? This was a strange twist and propelled me further into the story. How exactly would this have a happy ending?
Ah, and the plot changes. It warps into an intriguing idea. Liam has fallen in love and the leprechaun Queen grants him his private parts for a limited time. If he does not get Cammie to fall in love with him, he is doomed to be the Queens servant and without that appendage for a thousand years. I’m impressed how smoothly the story transitions. Cammie quickly became a great character. Her dialogue and actions made for a relatable heroine. Several descriptions had me grinning, 'the not so tiny soldier waiting for orders', 'the half-dead but still have a hard-on' line then there’s the theory that he’s gay! The sexual tension builds beautifully until they finally discover each other’s bodies in a passionate explosion.
I must mention I love the Leprechaun queen, her sense of justice is refreshing.
There’s a couple of editing mishaps that I noticed but nothing major. I would have liked Ms. Xander to draw out the interaction between Cammie and Liam a little more. That way we could feel they have a stronger connection. Other than that, this was an excellent read!
This is such a unique and sexy book that I highly recommend reading.
