It started out so nice. Alice was house-sitting for her friend, enjoying having the whole place to herself, with the sunken bathtub and big-screen television. But everything went wrong that first night, when she looked out the window and saw a strange man jumping naked into the swimming pool. Alice just knew he would be coming to get her, like all those other men before. But she would never be a victim again. Not after she remember the old Civil War saber hanging in the living room...
Warning: Extreme violence.
This was an dark book. The blurb was interesting and as the story played out I couldn’t help but get sucked into the violent world Mr. Laymon created. Alice was hard to not like. Despite her killing and torturing, her personality was so well written. There was no doubt I had to read this entire book to find out if she had a happy ending.
There were several characters that really jumped from the page. Judy and Murphy, they played a part that brought the story to new heights. The twists will leave
your mouth hanging open, no joke, your month will hang open, eyes wide, lights on and weapon in hand reading After Midnight. This is great yet disturbing stuff. Every time I think I have Alice’s life figured out, that things will calm down, another crazy thing pops up. In this case, it was Steve and the headless man. Now that was a shocker.
This leads to a crazy revelation and the end of our twisted tale. ‘After Midnight’ is definitely a novel I will remember, Alice’s story just plants itself in your head and Mr. Laymon did such a great job writing this chaos.
This is definitely a novel to read!
